It does not mean you can safely take the watch to a literal depth of 100 meters. Casio’s own 10BAR guidance allows swimming, windsurfing and skin diving, but excludes scuba diving and any diving that requires an air tank.
The marking applies to the exact model, not automatically to every Edifice watch. Check the model number on the case, its product page and its operating manual before deciding how you will use it. Casio’s official operating precautions and the watch’s own documentation are the controlling references.

100 meters is a rating, not a guaranteed diving depth
Casio uses two equivalent labels for the rating on applicable models: 100-meter water resistance and 10 bar water resistant. For example, Casio’s current product page for the Edifice EFR-S108DE-8AV lists both descriptions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe number is best understood as a resistance class assigned under controlled testing, not as an instruction to descend to 100 meters. Real use involves conditions that a simple depth number does not describe, so the rating should be translated through Casio’s activity guidance rather than treated as a personal depth guarantee. Casio says its water-resistant watches are tested in accordance with ISO regulations, but the operating-precautions page does not identify a particular ISO clause or publish a model-specific test protocol. That means the public documentation supports the rating and the permitted activities, not a promise that every watch can withstand every situation at a measured depth.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When a listing says 100 m / 10 bar, therefore, read it as: this particular watch has been designated for a higher level of everyday water exposure than a watch intended only for splashes, with use still limited by the manufacturer’s instructions and the watch’s condition.
What Casio says you can and cannot do at 10BAR
Casio’s Module 5710 operating precautions provide a practical activity table for watches marked 10BAR. The table below reflects that guidance; it is not a universal rule for every watch that happens to carry a 100-meter label.
| Activity | Casio 10BAR guidance | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Hand washing and rain | Yes | Routine contact with water is within the listed use category. |
| Water-related work and swimming | Yes | The rating is intended to cover these activities when the watch is in suitable condition. |
| Windsurfing | Yes | Casio includes windsurfing in its 10BAR activity guidance. |
| Skin diving | Yes | Casio lists skin diving as acceptable for the 10BAR category. |
| Scuba diving or other diving that requires air tanks | No | Do not use the watch for this type of diving, regardless of the 100-meter wording. |
The most important boundary is the final row. Casio’s manual states: “Do not use your watch for scuba diving or other types of diving that requires air tanks.” A 100-meter label does not override that warning.

“Casio Edifice” is a family name, not one water-resistance specification. Different Edifice references can have different ratings, case designs and instructions. Some may be marked 100 m / 10 bar; another model may carry a different marking. Never infer the rating from the collection name, the appearance of the watch or a retailer’s generic description.

Find the model reference first
- Look for the model or module reference on the case back, paperwork or original product listing.
- Search that exact reference on Casio’s regional website.
- Read the water-resistance wording on the product page and compare it with the marking on the watch.
- Open the operating manual for that model or module and follow its activity table and warnings.
If the case marking, product page and manual do not match, pause before using the watch in water and ask Casio or an authorized service center to confirm which documentation applies. A general Edifice advertisement is not a substitute for the model-specific manual.
Example: what the EFR-S108DE-8AV specification tells you
The EFR-S108DE-8AV is a useful example because Casio explicitly lists its rating in two forms. The following details come from Casio’s product page and describe that reference only.
| Specification | Casio listing | Why it matters here |
|---|---|---|
| Water resistance | 100-meter water resistance | The model’s stated water-resistance class. |
| Alternative label | 10 bar water resistant | The same rating expressed using the bar designation. |
| Case and band | Stainless steel | Describes construction; it does not by itself establish water resistance. |
| Crystal | Sapphire crystal | Describes the crystal material; crystal hardness is separate from sealing. |
| Case size | 44.8 × 39.9 × 7.8 mm | Model dimensions, not a depth rating. |
| Battery life | Approximately three years on SR916SW | An estimated battery interval for this model, not a water-use limit. |
Only the first two rows answer the water-resistance question directly. The other specifications help identify the watch and distinguish it from another Edifice reference, but none should be used as a shortcut for interpreting the rating.
What the 100-meter label does not promise
It does not promise literal 100-meter use
Casio’s public guidance supports activity categories, not an assured real-world depth for every circumstance. Treating “100 meters” as permission to descend to that exact depth is broader than the available documentation. Follow the activity table and the exact manual instead.

It does not permit air-tank diving
Scuba diving and other diving that requires air tanks are expressly excluded in Casio’s precautions. This remains true even when the dial or product page says 100 m or 10 bar.
It does not make every Edifice identical
The EFR-S108DE-8AV is one documented example. Its specification cannot be transferred to another reference without checking that reference’s own page and manual.
It does not remove the need for service
Water resistance depends on the watch remaining properly sealed. Casio advises periodic gasket replacement, approximately every two or three years. The interval is approximate, and the manual does not present it as a guarantee that a seal will remain effective for exactly that long.

Maintenance that protects the rating
Plan periodic gasket replacement
Casio recommends replacing the gaskets about every two or three years. Gaskets are the sealing components that require scheduled attention in Casio’s precautions. Use Casio or an authorized service provider when the watch is due for this work, particularly if you rely on the watch for regular swimming or other listed water activities.

Have water resistance checked during battery service
Casio says a trained technician checks water resistance whenever the battery is replaced. Battery replacement requires special tools, so it is not a routine do-it-yourself operation. Arrange the battery change and water-resistance inspection together rather than treating a new battery as proof that the seals are still sound.
Use the manual after service or repair
Keep the model reference and module number with the service record. If a case has been opened, ask the service provider what water-resistance check was performed and whether the watch is ready for the activities listed in the manual. If the provider cannot confirm the watch’s condition, avoid water use until you obtain a clear assessment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical decision process before getting the watch wet
- Confirm the marking. Verify that the case or dial actually identifies the watch as 100 m or 10 bar water resistant.
- Confirm the reference. Match the model number to Casio’s product page; do not rely on a family-level description such as “Edifice.”
- Read the activity guidance. For a 10BAR watch, Casio lists hand washing, rain, water-related work, swimming, windsurfing and skin diving as “Yes,” while excluding air-tank diving.
- Check service history. If the gaskets have not been replaced for roughly two or three years, schedule service before making water use a regular habit.
- Coordinate battery work and sealing checks. Have a trained technician handle battery replacement and inspect water resistance at the same time.
- Stay within the documented boundary. Use the watch for the activities Casio lists and do not convert the rating into a literal depth guarantee.
Common misunderstandings
“100 m means 100 meters underwater.”
No. It is the watch’s stated rating. Casio’s own instructions express the practical limit through activities and specifically prohibit scuba and air-tank diving.
“Every Edifice is 100 m water resistant.”
No. Casio’s EFR-S108DE-8AV page proves the rating for that reference only. Check the exact model.

“A sapphire crystal makes the watch safe in water.”
No. Sapphire is a crystal-material specification. Water resistance is a separate case-and-seal specification.
“If the battery still works, the seals are fine.”
No. Casio separately recommends periodic gasket replacement and a water-resistance check by a trained technician during battery replacement.
“The ISO reference tells me the exact depth test.”
Casio says its water-resistant watches are tested in accordance with ISO regulations, but the cited precautions do not identify the particular ISO clause or model-specific protocol. Use Casio’s activity guidance rather than trying to derive an unsupported depth claim from the word ISO.
