Short answer: NVIDIA says Hogwarts Legacy will add DLSS 5 Neural Rendering in an update scheduled for November 5, 2026. For local PC play, NVIDIA names GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards as the supported GPU family. It also lists GeForce NOW and RTX Spark as access routes. The announcement does not identify a minimum RTX 50 model, VRAM requirement, driver version, or final performance target, so the game’s ordinary PC requirements cannot tell you whether a particular card will run DLSS 5.
As of October 17, 2026, the update is still scheduled rather than released. Treat all Hogwarts Legacy-specific DLSS 5 performance details as pending until the patch and independent testing are available.

What DLSS 5 changes in Hogwarts Legacy
DLSS 5 Neural Rendering is not simply a new name for upscaling. NVIDIA describes it as a final stage in the graphics pipeline. Hogwarts Legacy’s engine first renders the scene with its normal geometry, textures, lighting buffers and other game data. Neural Rendering then uses that rendered frame as the foundation for adding generated lighting and material detail.

NVIDIA’s Andrew Burnes described the approach this way: “Neural Rendering uses the game engine’s rendered frame, complete with its artist-designed geometry, textures, and lighting buffers, as an unyielding foundation.” In practical terms, the model is intended to enhance how the scene is lit and how surfaces appear, not to replace the game’s underlying world model with an unconstrained image.

Inputs and developer controls
NVIDIA’s March 2026 description says DLSS 5 takes the frame color and motion vectors produced by the game as inputs. An AI model then adds lighting and material effects anchored to the source 3D content. Developers can tune the effect with controls for intensity, color grading and masking.
For Hogwarts Legacy, NVIDIA says Avalanche Software used the DLSS 5 SDK controls to tune the integration around the game’s artistic intent and style. That is a statement about the planned implementation, not independent evidence that every scene will look better or that the effect will have no visual trade-offs.
How it differs from other DLSS features
NVIDIA groups several technologies under the DLSS name, but they solve different problems:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Super Resolution and related reconstruction: reconstructs a higher-resolution image from lower-resolution scene data.
- Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation: creates additional frames between traditionally rendered frames to increase displayed motion smoothness.
- Ray Reconstruction: reconstructs ray-traced lighting information.
- Neural Rendering in DLSS 5: uses the completed engine-rendered frame, including color and motion information, as the base for generated lighting and material detail at the end of the pipeline.
Hogwarts Legacy already supports DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction on GeForce RTX PCs and laptops, according to NVIDIA. The November update is intended to add Neural Rendering and update the game’s other DLSS technologies to newer versions. Existing support for those features should not be treated as proof that an older RTX card supports DLSS 5.
When the Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 update arrives
NVIDIA’s October 13, 2026 announcement schedules the update for November 5, 2026. That date is a planned launch date. At the October 17 publication date, the patch has not yet launched, so final compatibility behavior, menu labels and performance are not established.

NVIDIA’s announcement names three supported paths:
| Access route | What NVIDIA has stated | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| Local PC | GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs are listed for DLSS 5 support in Hogwarts Legacy. | The minimum RTX 50 model, VRAM floor, driver version, settings and expected frame rate are not stated. |
| GeForce NOW | GeForce NOW is listed as a supported path. | The required membership tier, rollout timing by region, account conditions and stream-quality limits are not stated. |
| RTX Spark | RTX Spark is listed as a supported path. | The announcement does not provide a specific configuration, availability detail or performance target. |
“Supported” therefore means NVIDIA has identified the route as part of the Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 rollout. It does not establish that every RTX 50 Series card will deliver the same frame rate, that every GeForce NOW region will receive the feature simultaneously, or that a cloud session has the same latency and image quality as local rendering.

What GPU do you need for DLSS 5?
For a local installation, the only GPU requirement NVIDIA has published specifically for DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy is membership in the GeForce RTX 50 Series. No individual-card minimum has been announced. NVIDIA also has not published a minimum VRAM amount, required driver, CPU pairing, graphics preset, resolution target or frame-rate target for the feature.
That means it would be inaccurate to name a particular RTX 50 model as the guaranteed minimum or to infer compatibility from an older RTX card. The ordinary game specifications below describe whether a PC can run Hogwarts Legacy’s conventional renderer; they do not certify DLSS 5 support.
Hogwarts Legacy’s ordinary PC requirements are a separate baseline
The official Hogwarts Legacy PC specifications list Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 12 for the configurations. They provide performance targets for the game without establishing Neural Rendering compatibility.

The table answers a normal Hogwarts Legacy question: which hardware is listed for a conventional resolution and quality target? It does not answer the DLSS 5 question. For example, an RTX 2080 Ti appears in the published Ultra configuration, but NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 announcement names RTX 50 Series for local support and does not say that the RTX 2080 Ti can run Neural Rendering.
Why the distinction matters
A PC can satisfy the game’s minimum or recommended specification and still lack the hardware path NVIDIA has identified for DLSS 5. Conversely, an RTX 50 Series system can be in the supported family while its actual frame rate depends on the exact model, resolution, ray-tracing options, CPU, memory configuration, cooling and the final patch.
Do not use the GTX 960, GTX 1080 Ti, RTX 2080 Ti or other listed cards as substitutes for an RTX 50 Series DLSS 5 requirement. They are comparison points for running the game itself, not evidence of Neural Rendering support.
How to prepare for the November update
- Confirm your route. Decide whether you will render locally on an RTX 50 Series GPU, use a GeForce NOW session, or use RTX Spark. If you are on another GPU family, the announcement does not promise local DLSS 5 support.
- Keep the game ready to update. On November 5, check the launcher or platform library for the Hogwarts Legacy update. The exact menu wording and download size have not been published.
- Check official driver information when the patch is live. NVIDIA has not announced a required driver version. Install the driver version identified in the release notes rather than assuming that an older driver will expose the feature.
- Look for a separate Neural Rendering option. Do not assume that enabling Super Resolution, Frame Generation or Ray Reconstruction automatically enables DLSS 5 Neural Rendering. The update is described as adding Neural Rendering alongside upgrades to other DLSS components.
- Compare before and after with the same settings. If you want to judge the effect, record the resolution, quality preset, ray-tracing state and frame-generation options. Changing several settings at once makes it impossible to tell which feature caused a visual or performance change.
What NVIDIA’s published performance figures actually measure
NVIDIA published model-level comparisons in its October 2026 update. These figures describe the DLSS 5 model, not an independent Hogwarts Legacy benchmark:
| Claim | Qualification |
|---|---|
| 2× faster | NVIDIA’s comparison with the September 2026 version of the DLSS 5 model. |
| About 118 million parameters | NVIDIA says the updated model has a 24% smaller footprint than the September version. |
| 20% lower 4K VRAM use | NVIDIA’s reported model comparison at 4K; no independent game test is supplied. |
| Half the GPU overhead | NVIDIA’s claim versus the September version at comparable visual fidelity. |
These numbers should not be converted into a promise such as “Hogwarts Legacy will run twice as fast.” They concern the model update and do not specify a Hogwarts Legacy scene, graphics preset, resolution beyond the stated 4K memory comparison, GPU model, CPU, driver or frame-rate result. Independent testing after the November patch will be needed to establish game-level performance.

What owners of existing RTX hardware should expect
If you already use a GeForce RTX PC or laptop, you can continue to use the DLSS features the game currently supports. NVIDIA says Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction are already available on GeForce RTX systems. The announced addition of Neural Rendering is a separate compatibility question.
An older RTX card may still run Hogwarts Legacy well under the game’s normal settings, but the available information does not establish that it will receive the DLSS 5 Neural Rendering option. Avoid buying or upgrading on the assumption that a specific older model will gain support through a driver update; NVIDIA has named RTX 50 Series for local DLSS 5 support and has not published a broader local-GPU list.
Choosing between local hardware and cloud access
Choose local RTX 50 Series rendering when
- You already own a GeForce RTX 50 Series card and want the game rendered on your own PC.
- You need control over local resolution, latency, graphics settings and mods.
- You are prepared to verify the exact model and driver once NVIDIA publishes final requirements.
Consider GeForce NOW when
- You do not have a listed local RTX 50 Series GPU.
- Your internet connection can support game streaming and you accept service-dependent latency.
- You are willing to check whether your region, account and membership tier receive the update.
Consider RTX Spark when
- You are evaluating the hardware path NVIDIA explicitly lists for the feature.
- You can verify the product’s final Hogwarts Legacy support details after launch.
No published source in the announcement ranks these routes by frame rate, image quality, cost or latency. Those are separate decisions that require final configurations and testing.
If the DLSS 5 option does not appear
After the patch is available, first confirm that the game version shows the November update and that your system is using the supported access route. Then check for a current graphics driver and restart the game after updating. If you are on a non-RTX 50 Series local GPU, the missing option may reflect the announced compatibility boundary rather than a configuration error.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor cloud play, verify that the session is running on the service tier and region that received the update. NVIDIA has not published those conditions yet, so a missing option cannot be diagnosed from the announcement alone. If the option appears but performance is poor, record the exact GPU or cloud route, resolution, quality preset, ray-tracing state and frame-generation settings before changing anything.
What is still unknown
The following details remain unannounced in the available NVIDIA material:
- The first supported RTX 50 Series model.
- Minimum and recommended VRAM.
- Required NVIDIA driver version.
- Supported Windows build or launcher-specific conditions beyond the game’s ordinary Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 12 baseline.
- Whether every RTX 50 Series laptop GPU receives the same behavior as its desktop counterpart.
- Final graphics-menu names and default settings.
- Hogwarts Legacy frame-rate results at 1080p, 1440p or 4K.
- GeForce NOW membership, region and account requirements.
- Independent image-quality comparisons in Hogwarts Legacy scenes.
Until those facts are published, the defensible answer is narrower than a card-by-card buying guide: local DLSS 5 support is tied to the RTX 50 Series family named by NVIDIA, while the exact floor and performance remain to be confirmed after the scheduled update.
