The October 9, 2026 page matching this story attributes one line to Delta CEO Ed Bastian: “Just because someone says they’re going premium, that does not make them a premium airline.” It does not provide the interview transcript or explain Delta’s reported decision to skip Starlink. A separate March interview and Delta’s later financial disclosures offer useful context on demand and fuel costs, but they do not establish what Bastian said about Starlink in October.
What the October 9 article actually establishes
The page matching the title is dated October 9, 2026, identifies Bastian as Delta’s CEO, and attributes the premium-airline quote to him. It does not include readable interview details, identify the interviewer, or give the surrounding remarks. The reason Delta skipped Starlink—and what alternative, if any, Bastian discussed—therefore remains unverified. The October article page is the basis for the quote, not evidence of the missing interview context.

What Bastian said about travel demand in March
A separate interview, hosted as a transcript by Delta and dated March 17, 2026, provides a snapshot of Bastian’s view at that time. It should not be confused with the October interview. In response to CNBC’s Phil LeBeau asking, “Any difference between corporate and leisure demand?”, Bastian began, “They’re all going high.”

- Bastian said corporate demand was up by double digits across almost every sector Delta covered.
- He described leisure demand as strong, particularly in premium cabins, and said domestic demand was also doing well.
- He said more than 90% of Delta’s revenue was sourced from customers at the premium end of the “K” he described.
- He forecast mid-single-digit year-over-year growth in main-cabin unit revenue.
These are management’s comments and forecast in that March interview, not independent measurements of the airline industry as a whole. Read Delta’s transcript of the March 17 CNBC interview.

What Delta reported about its June quarter
Delta’s June 2026 results release later reported revenue growth of 14% year over year and premium revenue growth of 17%. Those figures show that premium revenue rose faster than total revenue in that quarter; they do not, by themselves, establish the October interview’s meaning or explain the Starlink decision.
The release also said more than 95% of Delta aircraft were equipped with fast, free Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members, with the company expecting to reach 100% by year-end. This reports the status and target for Delta’s Wi-Fi rollout; it does not say that the service uses Starlink or identify the technology behind each aircraft’s connection. How fuel costs compared with revenue
Delta’s reporting shows fuel pressure alongside revenue growth, but the figures come from different measures and periods:

| March 17, 2026 interview | Bastian said jet-fuel prices had almost doubled since the start of that quarter, adding about $400 million in cost for Delta during the quarter. | Management’s statement and quarter outlook in the March interview. He said stronger revenue helped offset fuel and storm effects. |
| June 2026 results release | Adjusted fuel price was $3.93 per gallon, up 75% year over year. | The company’s adjusted fuel-price measure for the June quarter. |
| Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 | Aircraft fuel and related taxes increased by $1.7 billion year over year; Delta attributed the increase primarily to an 80% rise in average jet-fuel purchase price and 1% capacity growth. | A filed expense disclosure using average purchase price, not the release’s adjusted fuel-price measure. Delta said it expected elevated fuel costs to persist until recent market disruptions and geopolitical events were resolved. |
The 75% adjusted-price increase and the 80% average-purchase-price increase are not interchangeable: they describe different measures in different company disclosures. March interview transcript; June-quarter results; Delta’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

The available October page does not substantiate why Delta skipped Starlink, whether Bastian addressed a particular competing service, or how the decision relates to Delta’s Wi-Fi rollout. The June results release’s Wi-Fi coverage figures do not answer those questions. Without fuller October interview remarks, assigning a rationale—such as cost, performance, or strategy—would go beyond what these sources establish.
