Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, launches in two colours: Star White and Night Sky. Night Sky is the official name for the dark finish previously described in leaks as indigo or dark blue. Both versions use a grade 5 titanium enclosure, contrasting hinge treatment and the same foldable display hardware.
The iPhone Duo colours at launch
Apple lists only two launch finishes. Star White is the lighter, neutral option with a highly reflective appearance. Night Sky is the darker, more understated finish. Apple’s final product name is Night Sky, so descriptions such as “indigo” and “dark blue” should be treated as pre-launch reporting rather than official colour names.

Materials and finish
Grade 5 titanium frame
The Duo’s enclosure uses grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish. That polish gives both colours a bright, reflective frame rather than a satin or anodised look.

A deliberately different hinge surface
Apple describes a 3D-printed hinge cover with a contrasting micro-blasted finish. The hinge is therefore more matte than the surrounding polished titanium, creating a visible texture and finish change at the fold.
Front and rear protection
Ceramic Shield protects the back, while Ceramic Shield 2 covers the front. Apple says the front material has three-times-better scratch resistance than the previous generation. The phone also has an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance. Those are published specifications; no independent durability testing is established here.

How the foldable display affects the design
Inner screen
Opening the phone reveals a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display. Apple says this panel is 50% larger than the display on iPhone 18 Pro Max. It supports ProMotion, Always-On functionality and up to 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.

When closed, the 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display provides 90% of the screen area of iPhone 18 Pro. Apple says the two displays use matching aspect ratios, allowing content to scale proportionally as the phone moves between closed and open positions.

Nano-texture and the crease
The inner panel has a custom nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and reflections. Apple also says the treatment helps make the fold crease less noticeable. That describes the intended surface effect, not a claim that the crease is invisible in every lighting condition.
Hinge engineering and water resistance
The precision hinge contains more than 100 components. It controls the folding motion and supports the display flat when the device is fully open. The IP68 rating covers splash, water and dust resistance, but it does not replace careful handling around liquids or establish how the phone performs after repeated folding; those questions require independent testing.

Neither accessory colour is a direct match for Star White or Night Sky. Navy blue provides a coordinated dark pairing for Night Sky, while taupe or sand creates a contrasting neutral combination with either phone finish.

Apple says pre-orders open on October 16, 2026, with availability beginning October 23, 2026 in the initial markets. A second group of countries and regions is scheduled to begin sales on October 30. Confirm local availability because launch coverage can vary by market.
MacRumors reports a starting price of $1,999 for 256GB, with storage options reaching 2TB. That reported figure is a US starting price, and regional pricing, taxes, stock and configuration availability should be checked with Apple or local retailers before ordering.

Your more consequential decision is whether the navy-and-taupe Duo Folio’s kickstand and folio coverage suit you, or whether the sand-and-navy two-piece Duo Case better fits a simpler protective setup.
