It is not automatically a 2,000W power supply, however. Whether a device works depends on the station’s usable watt-hours, continuous inverter output, startup-surge rating, the device’s average input and how long it cycles on and off.
A refrigerator, pump or power tool may start only if its surge demand fits the inverter. A heater, kettle or microwave can run when its wattage is within the limit, but will consume the battery quickly. The exact model’s specifications and your measured appliance load matter more than the 2,000Wh label.

Wh and W answer different questions
Watt-hours (Wh) describe stored energy. They help estimate how long a load can run. Watts (W) describe instantaneous power: how much the inverter can deliver at one time. As Anker explains, “Watt-hours indicate stored energy and estimated runtime, while watts indicate the maximum power the inverter can deliver at one time.” See the manufacturer’s explanation at Anker’s 2,000Wh runtime guide.

How much energy reaches your appliances?
The nameplate capacity is not the energy available indefinitely at the AC sockets. The battery-management system keeps a reserve, and the inverter converts DC battery power to AC with losses. For planning AC loads, an approximate 85% factor is useful: usable AC Wh ≈ rated Wh × 0.85. It is a planning estimate, not a guarantee; efficiency changes with load, reserve settings, temperature, battery condition and the specific model. DC and USB outputs can avoid some AC-inverter loss.
For example, a 2,000Wh station might provide about 1,700Wh of practical AC energy using an 85% planning factor. An illustrative calculation from Anker instead uses 1,800Wh usable: a steady 100W load would run approximately 18 hours under ideal conditions. The same guide’s theoretical division of 2,000Wh by 100W gives 20 hours before reserves and conversion losses. Use the lower, realistic estimate when planning an outage.

runtime ≈ rated capacity × 0.85 ÷ average watts
- Find the input watts. Read the appliance label or manual. USB chargers often show watts indirectly through volts and amps; multiply them. A plug-in watt meter gives a better reading when accuracy matters.
- Estimate the average. A compressor refrigerator may draw several hundred watts while running but cycle off. A 100W television that is on for six hours consumes about 600Wh, not 2,400Wh per day.
- Add simultaneous loads. A router, television and lamp operating together use the sum of their current watts.
- Check output limits separately. Compare that sum with continuous AC output, then check each motor or compressor’s starting surge against the peak rating.
- Leave a reserve. Cold weather, an aging battery, high fan loads and a desired emergency reserve can shorten the result.
Published runtime examples
The following figures are manufacturer examples, not independent tests. Anker’s figures are for its SOLIX C2000 Gen 2 and vary with appliance, settings, temperature, battery condition and concurrent loads. The Growatt figures are for the 2,048Wh, up-to-2,200W INFINITY 2000; Growatt says they come from internal laboratory data and actual results may vary.

Do not transfer a number from either chart to every 2,000Wh station. Different usable capacity, inverter efficiency, reserve limits and appliance models produce different results. The source pages are Anker’s appliance guide and Growatt’s INFINITY 2000 page.
What it can run comfortably
Communication and small electronics
Phones, tablets, cameras, laptops, monitors, LED lights, a Wi-Fi router and networking equipment are usually easy loads if the station has suitable USB, USB-C or AC ports. Their combined draw is generally modest, so a 2,000Wh class battery can cover work and communication through a long outage. Direct USB-C or DC operation may be more efficient than plugging a small charger into AC.
Entertainment
A television and streaming hardware can run for many hours. A 100W television illustrates the difference between ideal and practical arithmetic: 2,000Wh ÷ 100W is 20 hours, while Anker’s 1,800Wh usable example is about 18 hours and its C2000 Gen 2 example is 16.6 hours. Screen brightness, sound equipment and connected devices change the draw.

Medical equipment
CPAP equipment is a common emergency use. The Growatt example lists a 65W CPAP at 26.8 hours, but heated humidifiers and heated hoses can add substantial consumption. Check the CPAP manufacturer’s DC options and the power station’s approved voltage; do not assume the blower’s label includes every accessory.
Lighting and work tools
LED work lights, chargers and many intermittent tools are practical when their running and starting demands fit the inverter. A tool used for a few minutes at a time may consume less energy than its nameplate suggests, while a continuously running shop vacuum or compressor can drain the battery much faster.
High-wattage appliances: possible, but short-lived
Heating and cooking devices turn stored energy into heat efficiently from the appliance’s perspective, but they consume a lot of watts. Anker’s example says a 1,500W heater could use 1,800Wh in about 1.2 hours before additional losses. A 1,000W microwave appears at 1.7 hours in Growatt’s internal example. In real use, a microwave or kettle is normally run for minutes, making it more practical than continuous space heating.
| Approximate load | Energy used in 30 minutes | Planning implication for a 2,000Wh station |
|---|---|---|
| 100W electronics | 50Wh | Small fraction of the battery; duration is measured in many hours |
| 300W pump | 150Wh while continuously running | Potentially useful, but motor startup and cycling matter |
| 1,000W microwave | 500Wh | Short cooking sessions are practical; continuous use is not |
| 1,500W heater | 750Wh | Rapid depletion; reserve emergency capacity before using it |
These are arithmetic illustrations based on constant draw, not runtime promises. A kettle, toaster, hair dryer or induction hob may be compatible with a sufficiently powerful inverter, but each minute at high wattage removes energy quickly.
Why a device may not run even with energy left
Continuous output is too low
Add every device operating at the same time and compare the total with the station’s continuous AC rating. A 2,000Wh battery does not make a 2,000W output rating automatic. If the load exceeds continuous output, the inverter may shut down or report overload.

Starting surge is too high
Refrigerators, freezers, sump pumps, well pumps, air conditioners, compressors and some power tools draw a brief surge when their motors start. The station must specify a peak or surge capability that covers that event. A load that runs at 400W may briefly require much more at startup. If it fails to start, disconnect other loads, allow the motor to settle and check the exact surge requirement rather than repeatedly resetting the station.
Ports, voltage or waveform are unsuitable
Verify that the outlet type and voltage match the appliance. Check whether the station provides the required AC frequency and whether a device must use a grounded connection, USB-C Power Delivery or a particular DC barrel voltage. Never improvise polarity or voltage with an adapter.
Duty cycle was mistaken for constant draw
A refrigerator’s compressor cycles; a thermostat-controlled heater may cycle too. Runtime is governed by average energy over time, but the highest instantaneous draw still determines whether the station can start and operate the appliance. Measuring the appliance over several hours is more reliable than multiplying its maximum label wattage.

Short outage backup
Prioritize a refrigerator, communications, lighting, phones and medical equipment. Turn off nonessential AC outlets and avoid running a heater simply because the inverter can support it. Keep a reserve for compressor restarts and overnight needs.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCamping and RV use
USB devices, lights, laptops, a television and brief cooking sessions are sensible. An RV air conditioner, electric water heater or induction cooker can consume the battery quickly and may require more surge and continuous output than the station provides. Confirm the RV’s plug, grounding and transfer-switch arrangements before connecting anything to vehicle wiring.

Worksites
Battery chargers, lights and intermittent tools can be convenient. Check both the station’s weight and its output rating; a portable unit that is difficult to move may be unsuitable even when its energy capacity is adequate. Keep ventilation clear and protect the unit from rain, dust and extreme temperatures according to its manual.
Whole-home claims
A 2,000Wh class station should not be described as universal whole-home backup. Central air conditioning, electric resistance heating, electric water heating and large pumps can exceed its output or exhaust its energy rapidly. Whole-home operation requires a defined load list, appropriate transfer equipment and a system sized for the required duration. Anker notes that larger systems are a better fit for central AC, whole-home loads and extended high-wattage heating.
How to choose between 2,000Wh-class models
Capacity alone is not a sufficient comparison. Evaluate these specifications for the exact revision you intend to buy:
Recommended Free Tools
- Usable Wh and reserve: distinguish rated battery capacity from energy available at the outlet.
- Continuous and surge output: both must cover running loads and motor or compressor startup.
- Ports and voltage: confirm AC outlets, USB-C power, DC outputs, frequency and connector types.
- Charging and expansion: solar input, recharge speed and extra-battery support matter when outages last beyond one cycle. Growatt states that the INFINITY 2000 can expand to 6,144Wh with additional batteries; that is a product-specific feature, not a universal 2,000Wh-class capability.
- Weight and handling: a high-capacity unit still has to be carried safely.
- Evidence quality: separate manufacturer laboratory estimates from independent measurements and from your own appliance readings.
A practical pre-outage test
- Write down the loads you consider essential and their input watts.
- Identify motor, compressor and heating loads, and find their startup or maximum requirements.
- Choose the combination that must run at the same time; sum its running watts.
- Confirm that combination is below the station’s continuous output and that each startup event is below its surge rating.
- Test the setup while grid power is available. Measure actual draw with a plug-in meter where possible.
- Estimate duration using measured average watts and usable capacity, then subtract a reserve for uncertainty.
- Label cables and keep chargers, adapters and the station’s manual together so the setup can be repeated during an outage.
Bottom line for planning
A 2,000Wh portable power station is best viewed as a roughly 2kWh energy reservoir paired with a separately rated inverter. It can keep essential low- and medium-power electronics operating for many hours and handle selected brief cooking or workshop tasks. Sustained heating, air conditioning and other high-wattage loads consume that reservoir quickly, while motor surges can prevent a device from starting. Use the exact model’s usable-capacity, continuous-output and surge specifications, measure important appliances, and size your plan around average watts plus a reserve.
