Malaysia-focused evidence suggests gaming performance, price and monitor responsiveness matter to gamers choosing devices. It does not show whether Malaysian PC gamers generally prefer higher frame rates to better visual fidelity. The clearest local figures come from a 2021 survey spanning multiple device types, so they are useful context—not a current reading of PC gamers alone.
What the Malaysian survey says gamers value
A Lenovo Malaysia survey reported by SoyaCincau in July 2021 found that 74.01% of respondents named performance as the main factor influencing gaming-device purchases. Price also mattered: 28.80% selected RM1,000–RM3,000 as their preferred device price band, and 25.52% selected RM3,000–RM5,000. These results describe that survey’s respondents; they are not current population estimates or PC-only findings. SoyaCincau’s report on the Lenovo Malaysia survey.
The survey also included people using different devices. Respondents reported mainly gaming on desktop (36.85%), laptop (28.92%) and mobile (21.89%). Those figures reinforce why its performance result should not be treated as a preference measured specifically among Malaysian PC gamers.
Why monitors connect visuals with responsiveness
In the same 2021 survey, 40.45% of respondents said they could not game without a gaming monitor. SoyaCincau’s account discusses refresh rate and response time as features tied to gaming experience. These are concrete ways a display can affect how responsive play feels, but the survey does not establish which refresh rate Malaysian gamers prefer or how they trade responsiveness against visual detail.

For a PC setup, it is useful to separate two questions: how quickly and smoothly a game responds on screen, and how much visual detail or fidelity it presents. The local survey supports the relevance of performance and monitors; it does not compare frame-rate targets with graphics settings or establish a universal winner.
Who counts as a Malaysian gamer matters
Broader studies give context, but they cover more than PC players. Deloitte’s profile of its 2022 study, published in 2023, reported that 93% of Malaysians were aware of video games and 63% were commercially engaged. It reported average monthly gaming-related spending of MYR 116 among video gamers, and identified mobile as the most common gaming medium by both reach and playing time. These measures describe the wider gaming audience, not a PC-specific hardware preference. Deloitte’s Malaysia profile, Let’s Play! 2022.

Player habits also vary. Samsung Newsroom Malaysia’s 2023 account of the ONE Esports Southeast Asia and Oceania Gaming Insights Survey 2022 reports distinct gamer types in Malaysia and says 56% of surveyed gamers played at least a few times a week. That regional survey helps show that players differ in frequency and segment; it does not tell us whether Malaysian PC players favour frame rate or graphics fidelity. What the available evidence cannot settle
No cited source establishes a Malaysian PC-gamer-wide choice between higher frame rates and richer visual fidelity. The 2021 Malaysia-focused survey asks about device purchase priorities and monitor importance, rather than directly comparing those two goals. Deloitte describes video gamers broadly, while Samsung reports regional gamer segments and play frequency.

The evidence supports treating performance, price and display responsiveness as relevant considerations—not assuming every Malaysian player ranks them the same way. For a monitor comparison, look at refresh rate and response time alongside the visual quality you want. A player prioritising responsiveness may make different choices from someone who values visual detail, and the cited local data does not define one ideal setting or product for either group.

Price deserves attention too: the reported preferred price bands show that cost was part of respondents’ device decisions in 2021. Because the survey is dated and covers multiple device types, those bands should not be used as current PC or monitor budgets.
The responsible answer is therefore specific: Malaysian survey evidence indicates that performance was a prominent device-purchase priority and that many respondents considered a gaming monitor essential. It does not prove that Malaysian PC gamers as a group value frame rate more than graphics fidelity.
