YouTube Jewels are virtual items viewers buy and redeem for digital Gifts during eligible livestreams. Gifts appear on the stream, and eligible creators can earn Rubies when viewers send them. In short: Jewels are the viewer’s balance, Gifts are what they send, and Rubies track creator earnings.
How Jewels, Gifts, and Rubies fit together
- Jewels: virtual items a viewer purchases through YouTube’s website or mobile apps.
- Gifts: digital items a viewer redeems Jewels for during an eligible livestream. Gifts can appear as overlays, including illustrations or effects that interact with the stream environment. Some designs are limited-time, and combos let viewers repeat a gift sequence; available types can vary.
- Rubies: the creator-side measure YouTube uses for earnings from Gifts. YouTube’s current creator policy says every two Jewels redeemed for Gifts earn one Ruby, and calculates net revenue at $0.01 per Ruby. This is YouTube’s stated calculation, not a promise of typical or guaranteed earnings. YouTube Virtual Items Program Policies for Creators
YouTube says the feature is intended to let viewers show appreciation and enhance community, not to send creators a payment or monetary value. Creator revenue is handled under YouTube’s separate platform arrangement. A Ruby calculation therefore should not be treated as a direct payment from a particular viewer.

Who can buy Jewels and send Gifts?
Viewers must be signed in, at least 18, and located in a country or territory where Jewels are available. YouTube lists its website and mobile apps as purchase options. To send a Gift, join an eligible livestream and look for the Gifts icon; availability depends on the stream and location. Check YouTube’s viewer policy for current terms.
Which creators can earn from Gifts?
Creators must meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements, including being in an eligible location, participating in the YouTube Partner Program, accepting and meeting the Virtual Items Module requirements in YouTube Studio, and being at least 18 with verified AdSense identity. Eligible access appears in the Studio Earn hub. YouTube’s creator policy and Gifts eligibility information describe the current conditions.
Creators using supported third-party streaming software for vertical livestreams may not always see Gifts in that software. YouTube says they can monitor them through the YouTube mobile app or Live Control Room chat.

Which livestreams support Gifts?
YouTube’s current help pages describe Gifts on eligible vertical and horizontal livestreams. Support can depend on format, device, rollout, location, and account. A TeamYouTube announcement on April 21, 2026, said Gifts were expanding to horizontal livestreams on mobile; it said Gifts would replace Super Stickers on horizontal streams for channels with Gifts enabled and that desktop support was planned later that year. Since rollout timing may change, check the current in-app options and YouTube’s guidance for managing Gifts.
Gifts are not available on age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos. They are also unavailable if live chat or comments are turned off. The feature requires an eligible stream; switching a setting does not override the other eligibility rules.

Spending limits, balances, and privacy
YouTube’s viewer policy, accessed October 3, 2026, states a maximum combined Jewels spend of $2,000 USD per day and $8,000 USD per week, plus a maximum available balance of 120,000 Jewels. These are policy limits, not suggested spending targets; check YouTube’s current terms for your account and location. Jewels in a deleted or terminated account are invalid and cannot be transferred to another account. Read the viewer policy.
Sending a Gift may make the sender’s username and profile photo visible publicly in the livestream, including chat and the pinned area. Consider that visibility before sending.

How creators can manage Gifts
Creators can turn Gifts off in YouTube Studio. Turning them off removes Gifts from eligible streams, but historical earnings remain reviewable in Analytics. For access and controls, check the Earn hub and YouTube’s Gifts management help.

Jewels and Gifts are engagement features, not a way to keep a stream online. If you plan a prerecorded or looping YouTube livestream, make sure the content and stream settings meet YouTube’s rules and that the stream remains eligible for Gifts; for example, Gifts are unavailable when chat or comments are off.
