LIV Golf
LIV Golf stages individual and team competitions at the same time. Its 2026 format comprises a 14-event season, with 57 players—including five Wild Cards—organized around 13 teams of four plus the Wild Card places. What does a cut change—and who makes one?
A cut removes some players from the field partway through a tournament, so those players do not continue into the remaining rounds. A 72-hole format alone does not tell you whether an event has a cut: LIV’s regular events have none, while the cited DP World Tour championship cuts its professional field after 54 holes. PGA TOUR cut rules depend on the tournament; its 2026 guide says there are no cuts within the FedExCup Playoffs.

How does LIV’s team scoring work alongside individual play?
At a regular LIV event, each player competes for the individual title based on their 72-hole score, while their round scores also count for their team. In 2026, all four players on a team contribute scores in every round. The individual and team results therefore unfold together rather than in separate tournaments. LIV Golf: individual standings and a team championship
LIV’s 2026 format separates the season’s individual title from its team title: individual standings over the first 13 events determine the individual champion, and a separate Team Championship decides the team winner. The cited DP World Tour page explains a particular event’s setup, not the tour’s full season race. For a specific tournament, consult its own format and rules rather than assuming the pro-am, team scoring or cut described on that page applies elsewhere.

Why the old “54 holes versus 72” shorthand is outdated
LIV’s regular events changed to four rounds and 72 holes in 2026. That means a 72-hole event is no longer a reliable way to distinguish these tours. The more useful questions are whether a cut applies, whether a shotgun start is used, whether team scores matter, and how the season title is decided. LIV’s format announcement attributed the changes to a goal of making week-to-week individual and team performance matter; that is the league’s stated rationale, not independent evidence of the changes’ effects.
