As listed on Firefly Studios’ Steam page on October 13, 2026, Stronghold 4 requires a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, broadband internet and 33 GB of free storage. The minimum graphics card is a 3 GB GeForce GTX 1060; the recommended graphics card is a 6 GB GeForce RTX 2060. An SSD is recommended for both configurations. Because Stronghold 4 is still pre-release, check the live Steam listing again before downloading or buying.
Stronghold 4 PC requirements at a glance
The figures below are the publisher’s stated configurations, not independent benchmark results. “Minimum” is the published baseline for running the game; “recommended” is Firefly Studios’ higher specification. Neither list promises a particular frame rate, resolution, graphics preset or loading time.

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
Your computer must run a 64-bit edition of Windows 10 or Windows 11. A 32-bit installation does not satisfy the listing, even if the processor itself is capable of 64-bit operation. To check, open Settings, choose System, select About, and read System type. It should identify a 64-bit operating system and processor.

Intel Core i5-4670 or AMD equivalent
The minimum processor is an Intel Core i5-4670, or an AMD chip the publisher considers equivalent. Firefly does not name a specific AMD model in the listing, so do not assume that every AMD processor with a similar core count or clock speed qualifies. Compare your exact model and generation rather than relying on a generic “Core i5” or “Ryzen” label.
16 GB of RAM
Stronghold 4 lists 16 GB of system memory even at minimum settings. This is not the same as graphics memory: the GTX 1060 requirement separately specifies 3 GB of VRAM. If your PC has 8 GB, it is below the published baseline. Closing browsers and other programs can reduce memory pressure, but it does not change the hardware requirement.
GeForce GTX 1060 with 3 GB
The minimum graphics processor is NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1060 with 3 GB of video memory. The listing does not provide a supported AMD or Intel graphics equivalent, and it does not state a target frame rate or quality preset. Integrated graphics are not identified as supported, so a laptop relying only on built-in graphics should not be assumed to meet the requirement.
DirectX 12, broadband internet and 33 GB
The minimum configuration requires DirectX 12, a broadband internet connection and 33 GB of available storage. The page does not define a minimum download speed, latency, data allowance or whether every feature requires a connection. Keep more than 33 GB free in practice so Windows, Steam and updates have room to work; 33 GB is the game’s listed storage figure, not a guarantee that no temporary space will be needed during installation.
Recommended requirements explained
Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD equivalent
Firefly’s recommended processor is the Intel Core i5-7600 or an AMD equivalent. This is a newer, faster CPU tier than the i5-4670 named for minimum play. The publisher does not specify an AMD model, so the word “equivalent” remains a comparison point rather than a precise compatibility list.
GeForce RTX 2060 with 6 GB
The recommended graphics card is a GeForce RTX 2060 with 6 GB of VRAM. Compared with the minimum GTX 1060 3 GB, it provides the higher graphics tier Firefly expects for recommended hardware and doubles the listed VRAM capacity. The requirement does not mean that this exact card is mandatory: a newer or faster card can also be suitable, provided the rest of the system meets the requirements. No official frame-rate benchmark is attached to the recommendation.
The unchanged parts
Recommended hardware does not raise the published memory, DirectX, internet or storage figures. Both lists still call for 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, broadband internet and 33 GB of free space, with an SSD recommended. The principal changes are the CPU and GPU classes.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchHow to check whether your PC qualifies
- Check Windows edition and architecture. Go to Settings > System > About. Confirm Windows 10 or 11 and a 64-bit system type.
- Identify the processor. In the same About page, note the complete processor name. Compare it with Core i5-4670 (minimum) and Core i5-7600 (recommended), remembering that the AMD alternatives are not named by Firefly.
- Check installed RAM. The About page shows installed memory. You need 16 GB for either published tier.
- Check the graphics card and VRAM. Press Windows + R, type
dxdiag, press Enter and open the Display tab. Record the card model and display memory. You need a GTX 1060 3 GB at minimum or an RTX 2060 6 GB for the recommended configuration. - Confirm DirectX. In
dxdiag, read the DirectX Version line on the System tab. It should show DirectX 12. - Measure free storage. Open File Explorer > This PC and check the drive where Steam will install the game. It must have at least 33 GB available; an SSD is preferable.
- Verify your connection. The requirement says broadband internet. If you use a metered or unstable connection, plan for Steam’s download and any launch-time updates without treating the published requirement as a specific speed guarantee.
What happens if your hardware is between the two lists?
The two configurations are boundaries supplied by the developer, not a complete performance chart. A PC with a processor between the i5-4670 and i5-7600, or a graphics card between the GTX 1060 and RTX 2060, is neither automatically disqualified nor assured of recommended performance. The listing gives no settings guide or frame-rate measurements for those in-between systems.
Use the component that is furthest below the recommended tier as the likely upgrade priority. For example, a system with an RTX 2060 but only 8 GB of RAM still misses the published 16 GB requirement. Conversely, 32 GB of RAM does not compensate for a graphics card below the GTX 1060 baseline. Check every row rather than judging the PC by its most powerful part.
SSD advice and storage planning
“An SSD is Recommended” appears in both the minimum and recommended sections of the Steam listing. Firefly does not state that an SSD is mandatory, nor does it quantify loading-time improvements. A hard-disk installation may therefore differ from the publisher’s preferred setup, but the listing does not provide performance data to predict the difference.
Reserve at least the listed 33 GB on the installation drive and leave additional headroom for Steam’s unpacking process, patches and Windows housekeeping. If the drive is nearly full, move other games or files before installation rather than counting on the installer to succeed with exactly the package size free.

Release date, demo and changing specifications
Stronghold 4 is Firefly Studios’ upcoming mainline Stronghold game for Steam, with a planned release date of December 7, 2026. In an October 8, 2026 announcement, Firefly said the demo was available and identified Free Build as the initial demo mode. The same announcement said Skirmish Mode was planned for Steam Next Fest beginning October 19. These dates and demo details are time-sensitive.
Firefly describes the full game as a narrative prequel set in medieval England, following Penryn of Wethel. Announced content includes a 22-mission campaign and skirmishes with eight CPU opponents. Those features do not alter the hardware figures, but they explain why the title’s requirements should be checked against the current listing rather than copied from an older Stronghold game.
Do not use Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition specs
Another Stronghold title has substantially different requirements. Firefly’s support information for Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition lists Windows 10 or 11, an Intel Core i3-6100 or equivalent, 8 GB of RAM, DirectX 11 and 7 GB of storage. Those numbers belong to that separate game and cannot be substituted for Stronghold 4’s 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12 and 33 GB figures.
When a compatibility tool or search result shows a different requirement, verify the game name and edition first. Stronghold 4’s listing is the relevant source for this question.
Troubleshooting common requirement problems
Your PC has 8 GB of RAM
That is below the published minimum. Upgrading to at least 16 GB is the direct way to meet the stated requirement. Software cleanup may improve general responsiveness but does not make 8 GB equal to 16 GB.
Your GPU has less than 3 GB of VRAM
The minimum specifically names a GTX 1060 with 3 GB. Check whether your card has a different VRAM capacity before comparing model names. If it is below 3 GB or relies on integrated graphics, the official listing provides no assurance that it qualifies.
You have DirectX 11 only
DirectX 12 is required in both configurations. Install current Windows updates and the latest graphics driver available for your hardware, then recheck dxdiag. If the operating system or GPU cannot expose DirectX 12, it is below the published requirement.
You have enough space but no SSD
An SSD is recommended rather than stated as mandatory. You satisfy the storage-capacity figure if 33 GB is free, but Firefly has not published comparative loading or frame-rate data for hard drives.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Your laptop reports shared graphics memory
Shared memory is not the same as a dedicated 3 GB or 6 GB VRAM specification. Compare the laptop’s actual GPU model with the listed GTX 1060 and RTX 2060 classes; do not count Windows’ shared-memory figure as dedicated VRAM.
Bottom line for buying or upgrading
For the published baseline, target 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a Core i5-4670-class processor or AMD equivalent, 16 GB of RAM, a GTX 1060 3 GB-class GPU, DirectX 12, broadband internet and 33 GB free. For Firefly’s recommended tier, use a Core i5-7600-class processor or AMD equivalent and an RTX 2060 with 6 GB, while the memory, API, internet and storage figures remain the same. An SSD is recommended in either case.
Because the game is scheduled for December 7, 2026 and remains pre-release, re-open the official Steam system-requirements section immediately before installation. Firefly can revise requirements, and the current figures do not include independent benchmarks or a guaranteed frame rate.
