What Android’s “Be Together, Not the Same” Ads Showed—and Whether One Featured a Nexus 6

In October 2014, MobileSyrup reported that three leaked Android ads used the line “Be together, not the same.” One appeared to show a child holding a Nexus 6, but that identification was not confirmed by Google: contemporaneous coverage described the handset as a large Android device and treated the Nexus 6 connection as rumor.

What was Android’s “Be Together, Not the Same” slogan?

MobileSyrup reported on Oct. 14, 2014, that three leaked ads promoted Android’s range of devices. The spots presented variety in screen sizes, form factors and prices; MobileSyrup interpreted that variety as the campaign’s central idea, rather than quoting a formal Google strategy statement. The campaign phrase was “Be together, not the same.” MobileSyrup’s report described spots of 15 and 30 seconds and suggested they might be used online and on television. That possible placement was the reporter’s inference, not a confirmed media plan.

Did one of the ads show a Nexus 6?

MobileSyrup’s headline and report identified a child in one spot as holding a Nexus 6. The identification should be read as an apparent identification from a leak, not as a Google-confirmed product reveal. In its Oct. 14, 2014 coverage, TechCrunch described the bus-stop ad as showing an Android mascot with a large Android-powered device, and said the ads did not directly reference Nexus hardware. It treated the Nexus 6 identification as rumor.

So the most accurate answer is: the ad was reported as showing a Nexus 6, but the contemporaneous evidence did not establish that the device was definitively a Nexus 6. The leaked spots were campaign material, not an official handset announcement.

What is known about the campaign’s timeline?

The leak appeared as Android L and the Nexus 6 were anticipated, prompting launch speculation in coverage at the time. That context explains the interest in the large device, but predictions attached to the leak should not be mistaken for confirmed details about the ads. A later Arizona Attorney General exhibit referred to the “be together. not the same.” campaign as running during 2014–2016; it provides a retrospective timeframe, not evidence about the ads’ reach or effectiveness. Why the slogan fit Android’s device range

The ads’ creative, as described by MobileSyrup, set different devices and Android mascots alongside one another. TechCrunch likewise read the mascot variety as a way to depict a shared Android platform across varied hardware. These are interpretations of the campaign’s imagery, not a quoted statement from a named Google spokesperson. The relevant distinction is that Android was being presented across devices that differed in size, form and price, rather than as a single handset identity.

  • Microfiber interior protects your device from scratches

The Nexus 6 belongs to this story as a rumored identification in one 2014 ad—not as a current buying recommendation. The reporting does not establish its present availability, and the campaign’s historical context should be kept separate from current Android branding.
