Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

The right model depends on whether you want to monitor charging or diagnose cable-specific properties such as voltage drop or E-marker information.
What does a pocketable USB power tester measure?
An inline USB power meter sits between a power source and a device, displaying electrical readings while they are connected. The readings and display features vary by model: DFRobot lists voltage, current, power, capacity, and waveform curves for its FIT0814, while Klein Tools says its ET920 displays voltage, current, capacity, energy, and resistance.

These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent performance results. A reading can help you observe charging behavior in a particular setup, but it should not be treated as proof of a cable’s data speed, signal integrity, or safety.

Check the tester’s connector coverage against the cables and devices you actually use. DFRobot lists USB-A, Micro-USB, and Type-C interfaces for the FIT0814; Klein describes the ET920 as a USB-A/USB-C meter. Eaton’s Tripp Lite T050-001-USB-C is an inline USB-C voltage and current tester.

- VERSATILE USB TESTING: Test voltage from 3 to 20V DC and current from 0.05 to 3A (USB-A) and current from 0.05 to 5A (USB-C), covering most common standard USB ports, including Qualcomm Quick Charge ports
- EXTENSIVE MONITORING: Continuously monitor voltage, current, capacity/charge delivered, energy, and resistance (calculated) for up to 1000 hours, providing comprehensive data insights
- CONVENIENT DATA STORAGE: Store and recall up to 10 readings, allowing easy access to previous measurements for comparison and analysis
- OVERLOAD DETECTION: Detect voltage and current overload, ensuring the safety and protection of your devices and power sources during testing
- HIGH-RESOLUTION LCD: The hi-resolution LCD provides clear visibility of measurements, even in environments with low ambient lighting, ensuring easy reading of data
Also distinguish the values a meter displays from the properties it can test. A basic inline meter may show voltage and current without checking every wire or evaluating data performance. PassMark’s USB Power Delivery Tester Pro is a specialist instrument whose specifications include cable voltage-drop testing and reading USB-C E-marker details, including reported maximum current, speed, and cable latency. Those functions are a different category from simply monitoring charging.

How to choose one for your question
- To observe charging voltage and current: Choose a meter that supports the connectors in your setup and explicitly lists those readings.
- To track accumulated capacity or energy: Confirm that the product lists the specific measurement you need; models differ in what they display.
- To investigate a USB-C cable: Look for explicit documentation of the cable-specific test you need, such as voltage drop or E-marker reading. Do not infer those capabilities from a voltage/current display.
- To carry it regularly: Check the manufacturer’s stated form factor and how the tester connects in your intended setup. Portability does not establish diagnostic capability.
What a meter reading does not establish
A reading describes electrical behavior in the connected test setup. By itself, it does not establish that a cable supports its claimed data performance, that every conductor is correctly wired, or that the cable is safe. If the question is about cable construction or USB-C capabilities, use a tester whose documentation names that specific test and explains what it reports.
