The practical answer depends on the deal’s status, your agreement and the buyer’s integration plan. Some vendors keep existing support and renewals in place; others run the acquired service while preparing a migration; some fold the product into a broader platform while preserving a standalone option for a period.
Do not assume either automatic disruption or permanent continuity. Confirm the transaction stage, obtain product-specific answers in writing, and compare those answers with your contract, service-level terms, data-processing terms and change-notice provisions.

Start with the transaction status
Customer impact cannot be assessed accurately until you know whether the deal was merely announced, signed, awaiting approvals or completed. Ownership, control and operational authority may remain unchanged while a transaction is pending. A forecast closing date is not proof that the buyer can yet change systems, personnel or processing arrangements.
Announced or signed, but not closed
In the live Plurilock FAQ about its proposed Quantum eMotion transaction, the parties said closing was expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to shareholder, legal and regulatory approvals. The same FAQ said contracts, service levels, invoices and customer contacts remained unchanged at that time, services and support continued, and the companies were not sharing customer data or environment access while they remained separate. Those are transaction-specific statements that can change as approvals and integration work progress.

Completed transactions
After closing, the buyer may be able to consolidate support systems, alter personnel access, change the contracting entity or publish a new product lifecycle. Completion still does not prove that any particular change has happened. Ask for the effective date of each operational change rather than treating the closing announcement as a complete customer notice.
| Deal stage | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Announced | There is a public intention or agreement in principle. | That approvals will be obtained, that closing will occur, or that customer operations will change. |
| Signed and pending conditions | The parties have agreed terms subject to stated conditions. | That the buyer already controls support, data processing or product decisions. |
| Completed | The transaction has closed and ownership or control has transferred as described. | That support, pricing, data access, certifications or the roadmap are unchanged. |
What usually changes first: support, renewals and communications
Support routing and commercial administration are often the first customer-facing areas to be clarified. Read the notice for exact contacts, effective dates and required actions, then test the process before an incident occurs.
Support continuity can be temporary
Cisco’s June 30, 2021 completion notice for Kenna Security told existing customers to continue contacting Kenna for product support and to renew service support contracts through the existing route. Cisco said any process changes would be communicated with ample time. This demonstrates interim continuity, not a promise about Kenna’s present-day policy or about another acquisition.
Installed-product support may follow the same pattern
In its Accedian completion announcement, Cisco said customers should continue using the existing support process for installed products and that Cisco would provide advance notice before support-process changes. The excerpt does not state a publication date, so the timing of that notice should be verified directly with the vendor.

Questions to put in writing
- Is the current support portal, severity matrix, telephone number and escalation path still valid?
- Which legal entity issues invoices and signs renewals now?
- Do existing service-level objectives, response targets, credits and maintenance windows remain unchanged?
- How much advance notice will you receive before a support or renewal process changes?
- Will your account team, technical contacts and emergency contacts remain assigned?
Save the vendor’s written response with the contract record. A marketing announcement is not a substitute for a service-level commitment or a formal amendment.
Data, environment access and security controls
Ownership of a vendor does not automatically answer who can access your tenant, logs, telemetry, support tickets or backups. Data access is a separate governance question that must be answered for the specific transaction and product.
Ask who can access what
- Which new personnel, affiliates or systems can access customer content, metadata, logs, credentials or support cases?
- Are administrators moving to a shared identity, ticketing or monitoring platform?
- Will subprocessors, hosting regions, retention periods or deletion procedures change?
- Do data-processing addenda, security exhibits, confidentiality terms and breach-notification timelines still apply?
- Will certifications, attestations, encryption controls, privileged-access reviews and audit rights continue, and for which service version?
Plurilock’s pending-transaction FAQ specifically said the parties were not sharing customer data or environment access while they remained separate. That statement cannot be generalized to completed deals, other vendors or future integration stages. Obtain a current, product-specific answer and record its effective date.
Verify unusual requests independently
Transaction announcements can create opportunities for impersonation. Plurilock said official communications would come from its company addresses or account team and that it would not request payments, credentials or bank-detail changes by email. Treat that as transaction-specific guidance, but apply the broader control: verify payment, identity and access changes through a known channel or a previously saved contact, not through a link or reply address in an unexpected message.

Product availability, lifecycle and migration
An acquired product can be retained, gradually integrated, placed on a sunset path or replaced. The decisive questions are whether continued use is optional, for how long, and what the buyer will support during the transition.
Continued service with an optional migration
When Palo Alto Networks completed its acquisition of IBM QRadar SaaS assets on October 4, 2024, it said QRadar SaaS customers could remain on their current deployment with service and support until they were ready to move to Cortex XSIAM. For customers staying on QRadar on-premises, the announcement described continued IBM features and support, including security and critical bug fixes. The wording describes a particular transition path; it is not a universal model for acquired software.
Standalone product with planned integration
ServiceNow’s 2026 completion announcement for Armis said Armis Centrix operated with ServiceNow product, engineering and global go-to-market support, was integrated with the ServiceNow AI Platform and remained available as a standalone product. It also said deeper integration was expected over time. “Expected” is a forward-looking plan, not evidence that every planned feature is already delivered.
Build a lifecycle record
Request dates and commitments for end of sale, end of support, security updates, major-version compatibility and API availability. Ask whether you can keep the current license, whether new functionality requires a different edition, and whether an export remains available after a sunset date. If migration is planned, require a written runbook covering data mapping, integrations, testing, rollback and the party responsible for professional-services costs.

Compare the paths before choosing one
If the buyer offers continued use, a replacement platform or a phased integration, evaluate the options against the same operational criteria. Do not assume that every deal provides all of these choices.
| Decision axis | Questions for the vendor and your team |
|---|---|
| Availability and deadline | Can you continue the current service? Is there a firm migration or retirement date, and what happens if it slips? |
| Support and fixes | Who handles incidents? For how long are security patches, critical bug fixes and compatibility updates provided? |
| Contract and licensing | Do price, term, renewal entity, usage limits, service credits or audit rights change? Is consent or a formal amendment required? |
| Data processing | What data, regions, subprocessors, retention rules and privileged-access controls apply after the change? |
| Integration effort | Which connectors, identities, policies and workflows must be rebuilt? Who funds engineering, testing and parallel running? |
| Customer control | Can you export data, terminate for material change, maintain a transition period or operate both products during validation? |
| Operational risk | What is the rollback plan, outage budget, change-freeze window and measurable acceptance test? |
How an acquisition can affect your contract
Review the agreement before accepting a new order form or clicking through a replacement portal. Assignment, change-of-control, subcontracting, data residency, confidentiality, audit and termination language can produce different obligations in different jurisdictions and transaction structures.
Ask counsel or procurement to identify:
- Any requirement for consent, notice or an opportunity to terminate after a change of control.
- The entity responsible for service delivery, credits, indemnities and security obligations.
- Whether a buyer affiliate can process data under the existing data-processing terms.
- Notice periods for material service changes, price changes, retirement or reduced functionality.
- Export, deletion and transition-assistance rights if the service ends.
Public statements from an acquirer or seller may describe intentions, but they do not automatically amend your negotiated terms. Keep the announcement, customer notice, contract and vendor response together so an auditor or incident team can determine which commitment applied on each date.

- Record the facts. Capture the announcement date, stated closing date, transaction stage, product name and the vendor’s designated contact. Mark any forecast as conditional.
- Inventory your dependency. List tenants, integrations, agents, APIs, data categories, administrators, renewal dates, service-level commitments and regulatory obligations tied to the product.
- Send one written question set. Request answers on support, renewals, data access, subprocessors, compliance, roadmap, migration, licensing and notice timing. Ask the vendor to identify what is confirmed versus planned.
- Test continuity. Open a low-risk support case, verify escalation contacts, check invoice instructions and confirm that monitoring, alerting and backup exports still work.
- Model both paths. Price and schedule continued operation, migration and an exit. Include parallel licensing, engineering, testing, retraining, downtime and legal review.
- Set decision gates. Require successful integration tests, security review, data reconciliation, performance checks and rollback evidence before moving production workloads.
- Monitor after closing. Track support response, patch cadence, access logs, subprocessors, feature removals, contract notices and roadmap changes at each renewal and major release.
What the public examples do—and do not—prove
Transaction examples illustrate possible patterns, not guaranteed outcomes. Cisco’s Kenna and Accedian notices show existing support routes continuing during an interim period. The QRadar announcement shows a buyer describing continued SaaS operation while customers prepare for a move, plus ongoing on-premises fixes. The Armis announcement shows a standalone product receiving broader platform support while deeper integration remains a future expectation. Plurilock’s pending transaction shows that companies can state continuity and restricted data sharing before closing, subject to later developments.

None of these examples proves that every buyer will retain a product, preserve every certification, keep the same staff, avoid accessing customer data or fund a migration. Security outcomes also cannot be inferred from the fact of acquisition alone. Demand measurable commitments and monitor whether they are met.
Security claims need context
In Cisco’s 2021 Kenna acquisition FAQ, Cisco cited its 2020 CISO Benchmark Study and said “half of all legitimate alerts are not remediated.” Cisco also described Kenna’s platform as prioritizing “over 7 billion vulnerabilities.” These are vendor statements about cited research and platform scope, not an independent measurement of your environment or a count of currently exploitable vulnerabilities. Consult the underlying study before using the statistic for planning, and do not treat the platform figure as a prediction of your exposure.
ServiceNow President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Product Officer Amit Zavery said in the 2026 Armis completion announcement: “Most security platforms stop at the alert. ServiceNow closes the loop.” That is positioning from the acquiring company, not an independent assessment of effectiveness. Evaluate any promised improvement through your own detection, response, coverage and recovery metrics.

When to escalate or reconsider the relationship
Escalate to security, legal, procurement and executive owners when the vendor will not identify the processing entity, cannot confirm support and patch coverage, changes data residency without a contractual answer, removes export capability, imposes an untested deadline or requests payment or credentials through an unverified channel. A migration can be reasonable, but production cutover without acceptance tests, rollback and documented responsibilities is an avoidable operational risk.
The sound default is neither panic nor complacency: establish what is true today, what is conditional, and what will trigger your next decision. Your agreement and the vendor’s written, product-specific commitments—not the acquisition headline—should govern the customer plan.
