What 48,183 and 42,025 Internet Port Matches Really Show

A ZoomEye SDK query run on 25 September 2026 returned 48,183 matches on port 47808 and 42,025 on port 44818, according to StarkMan’s 28 September report. Those are port-query results—not a verified count of exposed BACnet devices, industrial controllers, or PLCs. A listener on either port may not be the device or protocol people associate with it.

What the two counts measure

StarkMan reports that ZoomEye SDK queries using sub_type=all and total-count output returned 48,183 matches for port="47808" and 42,025 for port="44818". The queries were run on 25 September 2026; the figures were published on 28 September 2026. StarkMan’s report on DEV Community

Query port Reported matches What the figure establishes
47808 48,183 Assets matching a port query on 25 September 2026
44818 42,025 Assets matching a port query on 25 September 2026

The counts are single-date observations, not a live or enduring census. The report says the queries find listeners on the specified ports; they do not verify device type, protocol version, or whether a system is production equipment or a test bench. Honeypots can also deliberately listen on industrial ports. No independently validated scan dataset or second measurement of these exact totals is established in the cited material.

Why port 47808 is associated with BACnet/IP

BACnet is a standard for building automation and control networks maintained through ASHRAE SSPC 135. The BACnet Committee identifies UDP port 47808 as the default for BACnet/IP, while noting that installations can configure a different port. • Convenient and Efficient: Featuring one-button operation and a test speed adjustment gear on the main control unit for enhanced flexibility. Clear LED indicators provide intuitive test result displays, making it easy for both professionals and home users to operate
  • Portable and Durable: Compact and lightweight design for easy portability. Constructed with high-quality plastic housing for robust structure, ensuring both durability and stability. Ideal for home wiring, IT equipment setup, electrical maintenance, and LAN DIY projects
  • Detachable design: The main control unit and remote unit can be separated and used independently, allowing you to test both ends of long cables. This makes it ideal for wall-mounted ports, long-distance cabling, or structured cabling systems, perfect for homes, offices, or professional IT environments
  • What you will get: 1 * TLP-123A Network Cable Tester, 1 * user manual, 2 * AAA batteries

That default makes port 47808 a useful clue, not proof that a matching asset is a BACnet device. A query result alone cannot establish that BACnet is running, identify the equipment, or reveal its configuration.

What port 44818 does—and does not—tell you

StarkMan associates port 44818 with EtherNet/IP, a protocol used in industrial automation. But the reported 42,025 figure is still a port match: the query does not confirm protocol identity, device type, version, or operational role. It therefore cannot be reported as a count of EtherNet/IP devices or PLCs.

What the counts cannot establish about risk

A port-query result is not evidence that a system is vulnerable, compromised, or being used in production. The reported data cannot distinguish deployed control equipment from test systems or honeypots, and it does not establish whether a matching listener has exploitable weaknesses. The figures describe what the queries matched on one date—not the security condition of each asset.

StarkMan characterizes building-management controllers and PLCs as long-lived equipment and argues that reducing exposure may require network-level changes. That is the author’s context, not a finding measured by the two counts.

How defenders can reduce exposure

CISA’s control-system guidance says: “Minimize network exposure for all control system devices and/or systems, ensuring they are not accessible from the internet.” Its recommendations include placing control-system networks and remote devices behind firewalls, separating them from business networks, and using secure remote-access methods when remote access is necessary. CISA also cautions that a VPN is only as secure as the devices connected to it and should be kept current. CISA ICS Advisory ICSA-24-207-02

  • Review network boundaries and firewall rules so control devices are not directly reachable from the public internet.
  • Isolate control-system networks from business networks, limiting connections to those required for operation.
  • Where remote access is necessary, use secure methods and keep the connected devices and access infrastructure current.

BACnet/SC is an option, not a conclusion from a scan

The BACnet Committee describes BACnet/SC as a secure communication option built on WebSockets and TLS. It provides peer authentication, message encryption, and reliable connection-oriented communication, and can run over IPv4 or IPv6. BACnet Committee: BACnet/SC Published at Long Last!

LED indicators clearly show wiring status, while the G light instantly identifies shielded (FTP/STP) or unshielded (UTP) cables. Supports safe testing of telephone lines with typical voltages under 48-72V, ideal for both home and professional use.

This does not mean every BACnet installation supports or uses BACnet/SC. A match on UDP port 47808 reveals nothing about whether BACnet/SC or any particular security feature is deployed.

How to state the findings accurately

A precise summary is: “A ZoomEye SDK query reported 48,183 matches on port 47808 and 42,025 on port 44818 on 25 September 2026; the matches do not confirm device identity.” Avoid describing either total as a number of exposed controllers or PLCs unless separate evidence verifies those devices.
