That is a count of query terms in a selected dataset—not 38,147 searches observed or people counted. The accompanying monthly figures are Ahrefs estimates reported by SkillGild, not official Anthropic statistics.
What the 38,147 figure counts
SkillGild says its dataset contains 38,147 distinct U.S. queries. Of those, 9,762 had measurable estimated volume—at least 10 searches a month—and 28,385 did not. These are counts of query terms, not events recorded from search engines or individual users. The query count is also separate from the estimated monthly search volume.

SkillGild reports about 650,000 estimated U.S. searches per month across the selected set. It says four queries account for a third of that estimated volume, while most terms in the dataset have no measurable volume. This is a long-tail pattern: a small number of queries draw a substantial share of estimated demand, alongside many terms too small for the database to quantify.
The figures come from SkillGild’s analysis of Ahrefs data, exported on 6 October 2026. They should be read as keyword-database estimates for a defined query set, not a census of interest in Claude. SkillGild’s report provides the publisher’s account of the analysis.

Which topics appear to attract search interest?
Within its selected queries, SkillGild reports about 183,000 estimated U.S. monthly searches for skill-specific terms and about 207,000 for MCP-specific terms. The queries “claude skills” and “claude code skills” are each estimated at about 10,000 monthly searches. These are Ahrefs estimates reported by SkillGild in 2026, not Anthropic usage statistics.
The report also identifies practical how-to interest. Skill-creation variants account for about 10,200 estimated U.S. monthly searches, including queries such as “how to create a claude skill,” “claude skill template,” “skill.md example,” and “claude code custom skills.” Installation and location queries include “install claude code skills,” “claude skills directory,” and “where are claude skills stored.”
Rank #2
People also search to understand how related concepts differ, with examples including “claude skills vs mcp,” “skills vs subagents,” and “claude code plugins vs skills.” Those phrases reveal questions people type; they do not, by themselves, establish a definitive technical comparison or tell us how well any feature works.

Interest in named community skills
SkillGild identifies 2,894 queries naming particular community skills, with about 57,500 estimated U.S. searches per month across those terms. It reports that almost all have an Ahrefs keyword-difficulty score of zero on the tool’s 0–100 scale. A low difficulty score is a property of Ahrefs’ estimate, not proof that a skill is useful, trustworthy, or easy to find in every context.
Rank #3
Examples named in the report include Humanizer, Nano Banana, Stop Slop, Superpowers, Impeccable, Taste Skill, Anthropic’s document skills, Obsidian Skills, and Remotion Skills. The list shows the range of names appearing in the selected query set; it is not a ranking of quality or adoption.
What the report says ranks for top queries
SkillGild classified pages appearing for top queries and estimated their traffic share. These figures describe the report’s classified pages and estimated traffic, not all traffic across the web.
Rank #4
| Page category | Estimated traffic share | Pages classified | Estimated traffic per page |

| Official documentation and vendors | 32% | 51 | 389 |

| GitHub repositories | 9% | 19 | 303 |

The per-page estimates and shares are SkillGild’s classifications and traffic estimates for the pages it examined. They are not counts of visits independently observed across each platform.
How search interest changed in 2026
SkillGild reports that estimated monthly volume for “claude skills” increased after Anthropic launched Agent Skills in October 2025, peaked in January 2026, and was about 62% below that peak by the October 2026 analysis. The timing is an association noted by the publisher; it does not establish that the launch caused the rise or that falling query volume means people stopped using skills.
Best Value
For the selected queries, SkillGild estimates worldwide volume at about 3.7 times the U.S. figure and names Japan, Brazil, and South Korea as the largest markets after the United States. The publisher says English-language queries dominate in those markets. These are its database estimates and interpretation, not a country-by-country census of Claude users.

SkillGild says it used Ahrefs Keywords Explorer exports based on seed terms such as “claude skills,” “claude code skills,” “agent skills,” “claude plugins,” “mcp server,” and marketplace names. It also says it drew on matching and related terms, search suggestions, country volumes, and 24 months of monthly history. Site Explorer exports were used for pages ranking on top queries. The publisher classified queries by concept, intent, and named skill or product, and dates the export 6 October 2026.
- Estimates can change: Keyword databases estimate demand, can omit queries, may round low-volume terms, and are updated over time.
- The query set is selected: The 38,147 terms are not every possible query about Claude or agent skills.
- Reproduction is unresolved: The underlying exports and coding decisions were not available for independent reproduction, so readers cannot verify the reported totals and classifications from those materials.
- Search is not usage: The analysis does not measure how many people use Claude skills, whether users are satisfied, whether a skill works well, or how widely a product feature has been adopted.
What it establishes about skills, MCP, and related features
The search data supports a limited conclusion: people search for ways to create and install skills, for named skills, and for explanations of how skills relate to MCP and other Claude-related concepts. It cannot settle those technical distinctions. Anthropic’s Claude Code setup documentation covers installation, authentication, system requirements, and updates; its live instructions are the appropriate place to check current setup details. Anthropic separately describes MCP as an open protocol for providing context to language models and lists integrations for Claude Code and Claude.ai in its MCP overview. Those sources do not provide enough support for a complete, current comparison of skills, MCP, agents, subagents, commands, and plugins across every Claude product.
