The Westinghouse WHI744BA is a 70 cm, four-zone induction cooktop with useful everyday controls, but the available evidence supports a specifications-led review rather than a verdict based on hands-on cooking tests. It needs a 560 × 490 mm bench cut-out and a hardwired electrical connection; CHOICE lists it as discontinued, and its detailed test scores are not public.

What the Westinghouse WHI744BA offers

The WHI744BA (PNC 949 163 284) has a black ceramic-glass surface and four induction zones, operated by touch controls on the glass. Westinghouse lists pause, keep-warm and timer functions, along with sound-off, child-lock and key-lock options. Safety features include automatic safety cut-off and residual-heat warnings. Westinghouse’s product listing describes these features; it does not establish how well they perform in independent use.

Will it fit your bench?

The cooktop measures 700 mm wide × 520 mm deep × 46 mm high. Westinghouse specifies a bench cut-out of 560 × 490 mm. Overall dimensions describe the appliance; the cut-out dimensions describe the opening it sits in, so the two measurements are not interchangeable.

Before buying or arranging a replacement, measure the existing opening and check the installation clearances and requirements in the WHI744BA installation manual. A nominally similar 70 cm cooktop may require a different cut-out or clearance.

Frigidaire Gallery 30" Induction Cooktop
  • Wipe away cleaning time with the induction cooktop: Unlike traditional electric and gas cooktops, Induction only heats the pan and the food in it, so the area around the pan stays cooler to the touch, allowing you to clean up spills and splatters while you cook.
  • Get amazingly fast results with induction: With induction, heat transfers directly to the cookware and not the cooktop surface, making induction incredibly fast.
  • Avoid over and undercooking your food with TempLock: Sensors in the cooktop automatically adjust the power level to maintain a consistent temperature the entire time you cook - it's like cruise control for your cooktop.
  • Maximize cooktop space with the convenient bridge element: Connects two elements to create a larger cooking surface, perfect for a griddle or large pan.
  • Even heat delivers consistent results: Induction delivers steady, even heat across the surface of your pan so you get consistent results every time.

Electrical connection and installation

Westinghouse lists a connected load of 7.4 kW and a hardwired connection. The manual specifies a supply of 220–240 V and 50–60 Hz. These figures describe the appliance requirements; they do not confirm that a particular home’s wiring or circuit is suitable. Have a qualified local professional check the installation before purchase and connection.

What cookware works?

Induction requires cookware with a magnetic base. Check each pan you intend to use rather than assuming a set is compatible: a retailer’s model listing also notes the magnetic-material requirement for induction cookware. Appliances Online’s WHI744BA listing states this compatibility condition. If replacing cookware, verify the base of each pan against the induction requirement.

Is the WHI744BA discontinued?

CHOICE marks the WHI744BA as discontinued on its review listing. That label does not establish whether a particular retailer still has stock, or what support is available in your area; check directly with the seller or Westinghouse. Westinghouse lists a two-year domestic warranty on the product page, but confirm warranty terms and eligibility for the unit you are considering.

Its public page also shows a price of $2,149, but that is not established as a current price and should not be used as a present-day quote.
