Across his next four listed games, he totaled 100 rushing yards, and his season average fell to 3.4 yards per carry through five games. That is a clear drop in rushing production, though the available reports do not explain its cause.
Ajay Allen’s 2026 rushing stats
Sports-Reference’s season table lists Allen with 59 carries for 202 yards, a 3.4-yard average and two rushing touchdowns through five games. It also credits him with 11 receptions for 78 yards and a receiving touchdown. Those receiving numbers show that his contribution has not been limited to rushing, even as his ground production has cooled.
The season average is 3.4 yards per carry across all five games, not an average for only the four games after the opener. The four-game rushing total of 100 yards is calculated by subtracting his 102-yard Nevada opener from the 202-yard season total.
How his production changed after Nevada
Allen’s opener was his clear high point: RotoWire reported 21 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns against Nevada. In the next four games combined, he gained 100 yards on 38 carries, or about 2.6 yards per carry. The carry count is the season total minus his 21 attempts against Nevada; the yards-per-carry figure is calculated from those totals.

The latest listed game, against New Mexico State on October 1, was especially quiet on the ground: nine carries for 17 yards. Allen also caught four passes for 24 yards in that game, according to RotoWire.
| Period or game | Rushing line | Receiving line |
|---|---|---|
| Nevada opener | 21 carries, 102 yards, two touchdowns | Not stated by RotoWire’s cited game note |
| Next four games combined | 38 carries, 100 yards; about 2.6 yards per carry, calculated from five-game totals and the opener | Not stated as a four-game combined figure in the cited sources |
| New Mexico State, October 1 | 9 carries, 17 yards | 4 receptions, 24 yards |
| Five-game season total | 59 carries, 202 yards, 3.4 yards per carry, two touchdowns | 11 receptions, 78 yards, one touchdown |
These figures describe a strong first game followed by lower and less consistent rushing output. A separate CFBStats snapshot through September 26 put Allen at 185 yards on 50 carries, or 3.70 per attempt, through four games. Its third-quarter split was 28 yards on 13 carries, or 2.15 per carry. That situational split is a dated snapshot, not a full-season figure; Sports-Reference’s later five-game total includes the October 1 New Mexico State game.

What explains the drop?
The cited game and statistics pages document the decline in rushing output, but they do not establish why it happened. They do not provide evidence here for an injury, a change in Allen’s ability, blocking problems, play-calling changes or another specific cause. The numbers support saying that Allen has struggled to run the ball consistently after his opener; they do not support assigning a reason.

His prior production offers context, not an explanation for the current dip. WKU’s biography reports that at Tulsa in 2025 he rushed for 497 yards on 97 attempts, averaging 5.1 yards per carry, with five rushing touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 98 yards that season. Those Tulsa figures cover a different season and setting, so they should not be treated as a direct measure of his current role or performance at Western Kentucky.
