West Bengal has reportedly raised monthly remuneration for specified contractual staff associated with its School Education Department, effective October 1, 2026. The reported changes cover roles linked to PBSSM, PBRSSM, the Directorate of School Education and PM-POSHAN—not all state employees or teachers. TV9 Bangla published a role-by-role schedule, but the figures below have not been verified against the September 30 government notification.
What has changed, and who is covered?
Hindustan Times, citing ANI, reports that the state enhanced remuneration for various categories of contractual personnel in the school education system, with Finance Department concurrence and Cabinet approval. The reported effective date is October 1, 2026. The categories are associated with Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM), Paschim Banga Rajya Sishu Shakti Mission (PBRSSM), the Directorate of School Education and PM-POSHAN. Hindustan Times

TV9 Bangla says most listed categories receive ₹5,000 more per month, while some categories and PBSSM management staff have different reported increases. The management-staff amounts in particular are unusually large changes relative to the listed existing amounts, so employees in those categories should compare them with the official notification before relying on them.
What is known about approval and the notification?
Hindustan Times/ANI reports Finance Department concurrence and Cabinet approval. TV9 Bangla says the Cabinet approved the measure at a September 7, 2026 meeting, the Governor approved it, and the School Education Department notification was dated September 30. Do not confuse this with the separate 3% IT-staff increase
A July 28, 2023 School Education Department memorandum concerns a distinct group: contractual IT personnel covered by a 2020 P&AR notification. It authorizes a 3% annual enhancement on July 1, subject to at least six months having elapsed since initial engagement, and applies only to Computer Instructors under the ICT@School Project. A separate 2026 Finance Department ad-hoc bonus order defines “revised emoluments” for that bonus order as the consolidated contract pay drawn by contract-remunerated employees. What contractual staff should check
- Confirm that the post and employing programme or department match the category in the official School Education Department notification.
- Check the notification for the applicable revised amount and any conditions governing implementation or arrears; the secondary reports do not establish those details.
- For PBSSM management staff, verify whether the notification distinguishes existing and new staff as TV9 Bangla’s schedule does.
- Ask the relevant office or employer for written clarification if the amount shown on a payslip differs from the notified rate.
