There is no single “cheapest” screenshot API until you match volume, output type, cache behavior, and failure billing. Vendor-published prices checked on September 29, 2026 include screenshot-api.net at $9 per month for 2,000 renders, ScreenshotOne at $17 per month for 2,000, URL2PNG at $29 per month for 5,000 fresh screenshots, and ScreenshotAPI.com advertising $0.001 per shot. Those figures are useful starting points, not interchangeable rates: providers define a render, cache hit, failed load, and extra usage differently.
For a clean operational model, ScreenshotNeo is the first service to evaluate: it removes common consent banners and widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and has a $5 paid tier for 3,000 shots.
How screenshot API pricing is structured
Hosted screenshot services generally use one of three models:
- Monthly quotas: a fixed number of renders is included, sometimes with paid overage.
- Prepaid credits or pay-as-you-go: you buy units and spend them per capture.
- Free quotas: a limited number of screenshots is available each month, usually with lower throughput or other limits.
Your effective rate is:
(subscription + overage or credits) ÷ billable successful captures

Published price examples checked September 29, 2026
The following are vendor-published snapshots. Prices can change, and the plans are not equivalent until their accounting rules are normalized.
| Provider | Published allowance or rate | Accounting and limits to check |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Free: 1,000 shots/month; Starter: $5 for 3,000; Growth: $15 for 15,000; Pro: $39 for 60,000; Scale: $99 for 250,000; Business: $249 for 1,000,000 | Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Yearly billing gives two months free. |
| screenshot-api.net | Free: 100 renders/month; Starter: $9 for 2,000; Pro: $29 for 10,000; Team: $49 for 25,000; Business: $149 for 100,000 | Published request rates range from 1 request/second on Free to 50/second on Business. Failed renders are refunded; the page says all formats and options are available on every tier. |
| ScreenshotOne | Free: 100/month; Basic: $17 for 2,000; Growth: $79 for 10,000; Scale: $259 for 50,000 | It says only successful renders not served from cache count. Extra renders are listed at $0.009, $0.006, and $0.004 respectively. Prices exclude VAT. |
| URL2PNG | Bootstrapped: $29 for 5,000 fresh screenshots; Traction: $99 for 20,000; Killinit: $199 for 50,000 | Additional screenshots are listed at $0.006, $0.005, and $0.004. Cached screenshots are retained for 30 days and do not count against the plan. |
| ScreenshotAPI.com | Advertises $0.001 per shot; credit packs start at $2 for 2,000 | The captured page conflicts with itself about whether the free allowance is 100 or 1,000 shots. It says failed captures caused by server interruption or a page failing to load are not billed. Verify the live offer. |
| WebsiteScreenshotAPI.net | Documentation states 100 screenshots/month on the free plan | PNG, JPG, and WebP use one unit; PDF uses two; MP4/WebM use one unit per second with a two-second minimum; GIF uses two units per second with a three-second minimum. Full tier pricing is not stated in the documentation. |
| Browserless | Documentation describes a REST endpoint for PNG, JPEG, or WebP screenshots | The captured documentation does not state pricing or plan allowances, so it cannot be ranked on cost here. |
Which service is cheapest for your workload?
Small projects and prototypes
A free quota is often enough for occasional previews. ScreenshotOne and screenshot-api.net each publish 100 free screenshots monthly. ScreenshotNeo publishes 1,000 free shots monthly with no card required. Confirm whether development retries, cache hits, and failed navigations consume the allowance before wiring the API into automated tests.
Around 2,000 image captures per month
The published entry comparison is screenshot-api.net at $9 for 2,000, ScreenshotOne at $17 for 2,000, and ScreenshotNeo at $5 for 3,000. The first two figures use different render definitions; ScreenshotNeo states that failed loads, bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFive thousand or more fresh screenshots
URL2PNG lists $29 for 5,000 fresh screenshots. ScreenshotNeo’s $15 Growth plan includes 15,000 shots. Compare whether your pages are usually cacheable, how long cached results remain valid, and whether fresh captures are required for every request.
Rank #2
High-volume or bursty systems
At 10,000 to 100,000 captures, included quota and throughput usually matter more than the headline monthly price. screenshot-api.net publishes rates up to 50 requests per second by tier; ScreenshotOne publishes requests-per-minute limits by tier. Normalize both to the same unit before comparing. Also model queue time, retries, and webhook or bulk-job support.
What counts as a billable screenshot?
Successful versus failed navigation
Providers do not agree on failure billing. ScreenshotOne says successful, non-cached renders count. ScreenshotAPI.com says server interruptions and pages that fail to load are not billed. screenshot-api.net says failed renders are refunded. Ask whether a timeout followed by your retry creates a second billable attempt.
Cache hits
Cache policy can dominate cost for monitoring and catalogs. ScreenshotOne excludes cached results from quota, while URL2PNG says cached screenshots are retained for 30 days and do not count against its plan. ScreenshotNeo also states that cache hits cost nothing and lets you choose a cache TTL.
Output units
A static image is not always one unit. WebsiteScreenshotAPI.net documents two units for a PDF, one unit per second for MP4/WebM with a two-second minimum, and two units per second for GIF with a three-second minimum. If your workflow mixes formats, calculate units rather than raw URL count.

Throughput, rendering features, and hidden cost drivers
- Concurrency: match published requests-per-second or requests-per-minute limits to your batch size.
- Page complexity: full-page layouts, lazy-loaded images, custom JavaScript, and network-idle waits increase render time.
- Freshness: disable or shorten caching only when content must be current.
- Geography and device: viewport, device, timezone, geolocation, and user-agent choices can require separate captures.
- PDF and media: verify unit multipliers before estimating spend.
- Retries: implement bounded retries and inspect response status or billing headers so a transient failure does not become uncontrolled paid traffic.
- Support and limits: check retention, cancellation, overage caps, storage, webhooks, bulk jobs, and priority support. No independent standardized uptime or speed benchmark is established by these published pages.
A practical cost-estimation method
- Count URLs per run, runs per day, and peak bursts.
- Split image, PDF, GIF, and video jobs.
- Estimate the cache-hit percentage and the failure/retry percentage.
- Apply each provider’s unit rules and included quota.
- Add overage or credit costs, taxes where applicable, and any required higher-throughput tier.
- Run a small trial against representative pages, including consent banners, authentication, lazy images, and error pages.
For example, 2,000 successful image captures are not necessarily 2,000 billable requests: a cache-aware provider may exclude repeated URLs, while a credit-based service may charge every attempted unit. Record response headers, status codes, and cache behavior during the trial.
ScreenshotNeo: a clean-shot alternative
ScreenshotNeo ranks first for this comparison because it bills only clean shots, removes common consent and nuisance widgets before capture, and has the lowest paid entry plan listed here. Its 63 options cover full-page and CSS-selector captures, dark mode, 12 device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, PDF controls, HTML/CSS rendering, custom JavaScript, clicks, waits, ad/tracker/request blocking, headers, cookies, authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, selectable cache TTL, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work for easier migration.
It also provides an MCP server for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients, with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools.
Or skip the browser setup
Use the one-call API documented at https://screenshotneo.com/docs/:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether it was billed. The MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Your bill is higher than URL count
Check output-unit multipliers, retries, uncached requests, and whether one logical job makes multiple viewport or device captures.
Free quota disappears during testing
Inspect cache settings and test against a stable staging URL. A provider may count failed attempts or may treat every changed query string as a new capture.
Captures are delayed
Compare your burst rate with the plan’s requests-per-second or requests-per-minute limit. Queue jobs, use bulk endpoints where available, and avoid sending unbounded concurrent retries.
The page is blank or blocked
Check authentication, cookies, user-agent requirements, bot protection, JavaScript waits, and geographic restrictions. Confirm how the provider classifies and bills a failed load before retrying.
Best Value
PDF usage is unexpectedly expensive
Verify whether PDF consumes multiple units and whether paper size, margins, page ranges, or print CSS trigger separate jobs.
Questions to ask before subscribing
- Is a cache hit free, quota-exempt, or billed?
- Are timeouts, CAPTCHA pages, blank documents, and failed loads charged?
- Does a retry create another billable render?
- What are the sustained and burst request limits?
- How are PDFs, GIFs, video, and multi-page captures counted?
- What are retention, cancellation, overage, and tax terms?
- Can the service render your authenticated and geographically targeted pages?
Frequently Asked Questions
Are screenshot API prices quoted per URL or per successful render?
It depends on the provider. Some publish successful-render accounting, some sell credits, and some apply output-specific units. Read the billing definition rather than dividing the subscription by submitted URLs.

Quick Recap
How should I validate a provider before moving production traffic?
Run a bounded trial using representative public, authenticated, slow, lazy-loaded, consent-banner, and error pages. Record latency, verdict, cache behavior, response headers, and billable units.
