Then repeat the checks after deployment: production settings, integrations, and real content can differ from what worked in development.
Start with the purpose, content, and navigation
Check whether a first-time visitor can quickly understand who the site serves, what it offers, and what to do next. Review important pages against that purpose rather than treating a checklist as a substitute for editorial judgment.
- Verify page titles, headings, body copy, calls to action, contact details, and legal or policy pages for accuracy and consistency.
- Follow the main navigation, internal links, and footer links. Look for dead ends, missing expected pages, and labels that do not describe their destination.
- Review images and media. Provide useful text alternatives for non-text content, and captions or transcripts where appropriate.
- Check that buttons and links lead to the intended destination and that the page gives a clear next step.
Check accessibility with real interactions
Use W3C’s WCAG overview and the WCAG 2.2 standard as references. WCAG organizes success criteria around perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust content. Choose a conformance target appropriate to the project and any applicable obligations; this checklist is not a legal determination.
Keyboard, focus, and visual cues
- Navigate the site using only a keyboard. Confirm interactive controls are reachable and operable and that the focus position remains visible.
- Check that menus, dialogs, sticky headers, and other overlays do not obscure the element currently receiving focus.
- Do not communicate meaning through color alone. Check that text and interface elements remain distinguishable.
- Review controls and touch targets, including WCAG 2.2 criteria concerning minimum target size and focus not being obscured.
Images, forms, and account flows
- Give informative images useful text alternatives; decorative images may be treated differently under WCAG’s criteria.
- Complete each important form. Check labels, instructions, required-field cues, validation messages, error recovery, confirmation, and whether the expected recipient or system receives the submission.
- For account and checkout flows, consider WCAG 2.2 criteria on redundant entry and accessible authentication.
- Test common viewport sizes and browser zoom. Automated scans can identify some issues, but manual checks and assistive-technology evaluation provide information a scanner cannot; a scan alone does not establish conformance.
Verify search visibility on the deployed site
For pages meant to appear in public search, check that they are not accidentally blocked from crawling or marked noindex. Make sure staging and private pages are not exposed as launch content.

- Review canonical URLs, page titles, descriptions, internal links, and sitemap configuration where applicable.
- Check the deployed host and production configuration, not only staging behavior.
- Use Google Search Essentials as an eligibility reference. Eligibility does not guarantee indexing or rankings.
Confirm HTTPS and production security basics
Google recommends HTTPS for user and site security; see its technical SEO guidance. On the public site, confirm the certificate is valid and expected HTTP requests redirect to the canonical HTTPS destination.
- Check for browser security warnings and mixed content.
- Remove exposed test accounts, sample data, and staging configuration that should not be public.
- If the site handles accounts, payments, or personal data, arrange a security review appropriate to its technology and data, and document incident and rollback procedures.
These are launch checks, not a complete security audit. The right review depends on the site and the information it handles.

Measure performance on representative pages
Check pages at mobile and desktop sizes, using realistic device and network conditions. Google identifies LCP, INP, and CLS as the current Core Web Vitals in its Core Web Vitals guidance. Collect actual readings rather than assuming a page passes.
- Use Google’s Core Web Vitals report for site-wide field data when available.
- Use PageSpeed Insights to investigate individual pages that need attention.
- Recheck after launch: production hosting, third-party scripts, final media, and real traffic can affect performance.
Google recommends good Core Web Vitals for Search success and user experience, but a checklist cannot predict rankings or substitute for measurement. For definitions and thresholds, consult Google’s live documentation and web.dev’s Web Vitals reference.

Test critical functions and operations
Exercise the site’s important user journeys in the production environment. Decide what is critical based on the actual audience, business, forms, and integrations.
- Submit each important form and confirm both the on-screen result and the expected delivery or system action.
- Where relevant, test account creation, sign-in, search, checkout, booking, downloads, and other essential paths from beginning to end.
- Check redirects, embedded media, analytics or consent settings, and third-party integrations.
- Make sure the team knows how it will monitor issues and restore service or content if a launch defect appears. Backup, restore, and rollback steps depend on the platform.
Capture the production page for visual review
A screenshot can help a team inspect a deployed page at a particular viewport or share a visual record. It does not verify keyboard access, form delivery, search indexing, or security; use it alongside the checks above. For a do-it-yourself capture, use your browser’s screenshot or developer tools and inspect the actual production URL at the viewport sizes relevant to your visitors.

Make the final pass against the live site
Use a short, site-specific launch list that records the page or journey checked, the result, and any defect still open. Revisit the production site after deployment and after meaningful changes; a successful staging check is not proof that the public configuration behaves the same way.
