Is Webroot really the number-one antivirus?
The claim is narrower than a general antivirus ranking. TechRadar attributes it to a July 2025 PassMark study. PassMark says it tested nine antivirus products on Windows 11 in June 2025 across 15 system-performance metrics. Its report covers measures such as scan time, installation size and time, memory use, boot time, browser performance, and file operations. PassMark’s report describes the benchmark and its methodology; Webroot’s summary says Essentials ranked highest overall.

It depends on the price you actually see, the number of devices you need, and whether the higher-tier extras are useful to you. Compare the checkout price with the plan’s device allowance and included features; then check the renewal amount and subscription terms rather than assuming the first-year price will continue. The “#1” headline may be relevant if you are weighing measured system performance, but it should not be treated as a verdict on malware-protection effectiveness.
