In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the red-maned Lynel is the lowest and generally least formidable of the commonly listed Lynel color tiers. A fan-authored guide reports 2,000 HP for this variant, compared with 3,000 for blue-maned, 4,000 for white-maned, and 5,000 for silver Lynels. Those figures are community guide data, not health values published by Nintendo.
Which Lynel is the weakest in Breath of the Wild?
The red-maned Lynel sits at the bottom of the commonly identified color progression in Breath of the Wild. That makes it the relative starting point for players comparing variants—not an easy opponent. Nintendo describes the Lynel at Ploymus Mountain as extremely dangerous and a worthy foe.

The HP comparison below comes from a 2018 GameFAQs guide by contributor Adreos0. Nintendo’s reviewed guides do not publish these numerical HP values, so treat them as secondary reference figures rather than official Nintendo statistics.
| Variant | HP reported by the GameFAQs guide | What the comparison establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Red-maned | 2,000 | Lowest reported HP among these four tiers |
| Blue-maned | 3,000 | Higher reported HP than red-maned |
| White-maned | 4,000 | Higher reported HP than blue-maned |
| Silver | 5,000 | Highest reported HP among these four tiers |
According to the same guide, higher tiers also have progressively stronger gear. HP alone is not a complete measure of how difficult a particular fight will feel: your equipment, progress, tactics, and experience all matter.

Where can you find the Ploymus Mountain Lynel?
Nintendo’s official Lanayru regional guide places this Lynel near the summit of Ploymus Mountain, east of Zora’s Domain. The page describes it as half human and half beast, and warns that the encounter can be intimidating.
What attacks should you prepare for?
Nintendo says the Ploymus Mountain Lynel can charge with a one-handed sword, fire electric arrows from a distance, and unleash gouts of flame. Its ranged attacks mean that simply staying away is not a complete defense.
Nintendo’s suggested opening is to aim a bow and arrow at the Lynel’s head. If it goes down, approach from behind to mount it. The regional guide’s advice is to stay calm and prioritize protecting yourself rather than rushing into attacks.

How should you prepare for the fight?
Bring a durable, varied loadout
Nintendo’s Explorer’s Guide recommends powerful weapons and shields, a mighty bow, plenty of arrows, and meals and elixirs. Since weapons, shields, and bows wear out and break with use, carry spare equipment instead of relying on a single weapon.
Use the environment and recover when needed
Nintendo’s beginner guide suggests locking on to nearby enemies and using environmental objects such as large rocks or bomb barrels where available. Food can restore health. If the fight turns against you, retreat, recover, and return better prepared; Nintendo’s guidance for formidable foes explicitly allows for backing away when necessary.
Know what some higher-tier Lynels can drop
Nintendo’s Explorer’s Guide notes that Silver Lynels are known to drop powerful bows. That is a practical distinction between tiers, but it does not change which variant has the lowest HP in the cited comparison.

How far does this answer apply?
This comparison is specifically about Breath of the Wild. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom also has Lynel variants, but its details should be assessed separately rather than assumed to match this game’s comparison. Within Breath of the Wild, red-maned is the weakest commonly listed color tier by the cited HP figures; the danger of an individual encounter still depends on the player and circumstances.
