Waze’s Unicorn driving experience was real, but it was a limited-time promotion—not a feature every driver can count on finding today. If it is still available to your account and region, look for a Unicorn experience card in the Waze menu. If there is no card, check the voice, car icon, and mood menus separately; each is controlled independently.
What the Waze Unicorn experience includes
Unicorn was a themed set of Waze customizations, not a separate app or a different navigation mode. It could change three things:
- Voice: navigation directions spoken in the Unicorn voice.
- Car icon: a themed vehicle shown for you on your own map. English-language coverage called it “Pony Ride”; labels may differ by locale.
- Mood: a Unicorn-themed profile avatar or mood shown to other Wazers.
Waze’s special driving experiences help page describes experiences as including guest voices, moods, and car icons, and says you can activate some or all of their features.
How to activate it from the Waze menu
- Open Waze on your phone.
- Tap the menu icon.
- Look for a promotional card or banner labeled “Unicorn,” “Drive with Unicorn,” or similar wording.
- Open the card and enable whichever of the Voice, Car icon, and Mood options are offered.
Waze’s current general instructions use this menu-and-banner approach for special driving experiences. The exact banner label and placement can vary by app version and availability. Change these settings on your phone while disconnected from Android Auto or CarPlay, then reconnect if you use either system.

Choose the Unicorn voice
- In Waze, tap the sound icon.
- Under Current voice, tap the displayed voice.
- Search for or browse to Unicorn, then select it if it appears.
Older instructions and coverage describe a settings route as Settings → Voice & sound → Waze voice; menu names can differ by platform, language, and app redesign. Waze’s current help page gives the sound-icon path. Its January 31, 2024 community announcement said the Unicorn voice was available globally in English, Portuguese, and French for that February promotion; that does not establish current availability in every language or region. Choose the Unicorn car icon
- Open Waze settings.
- Tap Map display → Car icon.
- Select the Unicorn-themed vehicle if it is listed.
Waze says the car icon represents you on your own map and is visible only to you. The English name “Pony Ride” was reported in contemporary coverage; a localized name may differ. Waze’s help page documents the menu path, and PhoneArena’s coverage reported the promotional label.
Choose the Unicorn mood
- Open the Waze menu.
- Tap View profile or your profile/name area.
- Tap Mood and select Unicorn if it appears.
The mood is a profile setting that Waze says is displayed to other Wazers on the map; it is distinct from the car icon.

Why Unicorn may not appear
- The promotion may have ended. Waze’s special experiences can be available only for limited periods.
- Availability may vary by region. Waze says some experiences are offered only in selected regions.
- The components may appear separately. Check the voice, car icon, and mood menus even if the banner is missing or only one part is offered.
- Menu wording may differ. The instructions above reflect Waze’s current general help paths, but labels can vary by platform, language, and app version.
- You may be connected to a car system. Disconnect from Android Auto or CarPlay, make the changes on the phone, and reconnect.
If no Unicorn option appears in the banner or individual menus, the app does not currently offer it to you. Do not rely on unofficial Waze builds or third-party voice downloads as a workaround.

Waze promoted a Unicorn experience in 2023 and again in a February 2024 campaign. The official 2024 announcement confirms that later promotion, while contemporaneous coverage reported the 2023 theme and a download window ending October 11, 2023. Those campaigns do not show that Unicorn is a permanent feature. Waze’s current help documentation warns that special experiences can be limited by region and time. As of August 18, 2026, the available official information does not establish that Unicorn is still active for all users; the menus in your own app are the practical availability check. PhoneArena reported on the 2023 promotion, and Waze documented the February 2024 campaign.
How to turn the theme off
Restore each control individually: choose your preferred voice from the sound or voice settings, select another car icon under Settings → Map display → Car icon, and choose another option under Profile → Mood. Changing one does not necessarily change the others.

Set it up before driving
Make changes while parked. Do not search through menus or change settings while the vehicle is moving.
