Tom’s Guide reported on October 5, 2026, that HP was offering an OMEN 35L gaming desktop for $2,799, a claimed $2,200 reduction from $4,999. The report described an AMD Ryzen 7, an RTX 5080 with 16GB of GDDR7, 32GB of memory and a 2TB SSD. That is a dated deal report, not confirmation that the price or configuration is still available. Read Tom’s Guide’s October 5 report.
What the reported HP deal included
Tom’s Guide’s October 5, 2026, article put the system at $2,799, compared with a stated $4,999 price, and identified an AMD Ryzen 7 processor, RTX 5080 graphics with 16GB GDDR7, 32GB of memory and a 2TB SSD. Tom’s Hardware separately reported the same $2,799 price and $2,200 claimed discount for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D/RTX 5080 OMEN system, describing the reduction as 44%. The two reports corroborate that the deal was covered; they do not establish that HP still has it for sale or that both articles refer to an identical SKU. See Tom’s Hardware’s report.

Why the configuration needs checking
HP’s official US shop page for an OMEN 35L GT16-0285t lists an RTX 5080 configuration with a Core Ultra 9 processor, 64GB of memory and a 2TB SSD—not the Ryzen 7 and 32GB configuration described in the deal coverage. HP’s support documentation also lists an RTX 5080 with 16GB GDDR7 as an option in the GT16 family, but that family-level listing does not identify the specific sale SKU. Do not combine the specs from these separate listings into one assumed configuration.

Is $2,799 a good price?
The reported discount alone cannot answer that. HP describes its strikethrough price as an MSRP, and says daily or limited-time deals are excluded from its price protection or matching. A $2,200 reduction from that reference price is therefore not, by itself, proof of the system’s market value.
Compare the actual offer against other RTX 5080 prebuilts with the same CPU, memory and storage, then account for the final checkout price, warranty and return terms. Also check the case and component details relevant to future upgrades. Tom’s Hardware notes that standalone RTX 5080 prices vary substantially, but that observation is not a current market-wide comparison of complete PCs.

What to verify before checking out
- Live availability and price: Confirm the offer is still active on HP’s page and check the final price at checkout.
- Exact configuration: Match the CPU, graphics card, memory and SSD capacity to the listing and SKU—not just the OMEN 35L family name.
- Purchase terms: Review the warranty, return window and any shipping or other charges before treating the advertised figure as your total cost.
- Comparable alternatives: Compare current prices for systems with the same core components rather than relying on the crossed-out MSRP.
The “Prime Day” framing refers to the timing of HP’s reported offer alongside Amazon’s October Prime Day period. It does not mean Amazon was selling the HP system or that HP’s deal was an Amazon Prime Day offer.
