NASA’s SpaceX CRS-35 is the 35th commercial resupply mission sending a Dragon cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) on a Falcon 9 rocket. NASA says the spacecraft was loaded with more than 6,300 pounds of supplies, research materials and station hardware. India Today reported that the launch took place at 4:03 p.m. IST on Oct. 13, 2026; NASA’s captured pages were issued as mission-planning and coverage advisories before liftoff, so they do not independently confirm the launch outcome.

What CRS-35 is carrying to the space station

The cargo falls into three broad groups: crew provisions, hardware for the orbital laboratory and investigations that use microgravity as part of their method. NASA’s mission overview gives the total as more than 6,300 pounds. India Today described the load as exceeding 2,800 kilograms, while the headline wording says “over 2,000 kg.” Those figures come from different reports and counting descriptions; NASA’s directly stated mission quantity is the most precise agency figure available here.

Brain models and astronaut health

NASA Science says the mission sends small, lab-grown models of the human brain to the orbiting laboratory for five weeks. Identical models kept on Earth provide a comparison for cellular effects of short spaceflight. The work may help researchers understand brain-health risks relevant to astronauts and future missions, but it is not evidence of a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis.

Artificial-retina manufacturing

LambdaVision-1 examines whether retinal layers can be manufactured in microgravity. NASA describes the hoped-for application as improved artificial-retina implants for some retinal diseases. That is an investigational goal, not an approved therapy or a demonstrated patient benefit.

Three-dimensional heart tissue

Stellar Spheroids studies how 3D human heart-tissue models grow and function away from Earth, including whether microgravity changes formation of vascular networks. More realistic disease models and larger-scale drug testing are potential future uses; CRS-35 itself does not establish clinical efficacy.

Plants, fungi and resistant bacteria

One plant study compares molecular and structural changes in Earth-grown and station-grown plants infected with a disease-causing fungus. Researchers want to see whether crop diseases develop differently in microgravity. NASA Science also lists an investigation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, alongside a faster method for assessing astronaut health.

Why microgravity matters

On Earth, gravity drives convection, sedimentation and other effects that can mask biological and materials processes. Microgravity lets investigators isolate different physical and cellular behaviors. NASA says the ISS has supported researchers from more than 110 countries for over 25 years, enabling more than 4,000 experiments in microgravity. That historical figure describes the station’s overall research record, not the number of studies on CRS-35.

Launch and docking timeline

NASA’s Oct. 7 advisory targeted launch for 6:33 a.m. EDT on Oct. 13, 2026, with autonomous docking around 11 a.m. EDT on Oct. 15. It planned for Dragon to remain attached to the ISS until mid-November. These were schedule targets published before the launch window.

India Today later reported liftoff at 4:03 p.m. IST on Oct. 13 and expected docking at about 8:30 p.m. IST on Oct. 15. The captured sources give different docking times, and the NASA pages available for this article do not provide a post-launch confirmation. Readers checking the spacecraft’s actual arrival should use NASA’s latest CRS-35 mission update rather than treating either pre-launch target as a completed event.

What is known—and not known—about the food

The mission carries food and routine crew supplies according to secondary reporting, but NASA’s published overview does not provide a meal-by-meal manifest, the number of astronauts served or how long the food is expected to last. Specific claims about menus, calories or delivery duration would go beyond the available mission information.

How to interpret the mission’s promised benefits

  • Research objective: test biological or materials behavior in microgravity.
  • Potential application: improve models, manufacturing methods, drug testing or future hardware.
  • Established result: not yet demonstrated by the launch or by the planned experiments themselves.

CRS-35 is therefore a transportation mission for research and station support, not a shipment of finished medical treatments. Any clinical or commercial benefit would require results from the experiments, validation on Earth and, where applicable, regulatory approval.
