The Mercenaries Edition is a package that combines Wartales with additional products, but the contents are not identical on every storefront. The Steam listing includes the official soundtrack, while the US Xbox listing names the base game plus eight add-ons and does not list the soundtrack.
Use the store page for your platform and region as the final authority. The practical comparison is not simply “base game versus every DLC”; it is “which exact products are listed in the edition you can buy, whether you already own any of them, and whether the current price makes the bundle worthwhile.”

What Wartales is
Wartales is an open-world role-playing game built around leading a company of mercenaries. The official Steam description emphasizes exploring the world, recruiting companions, collecting bounties and entering ancient tombs. Steam lists the base game’s release date as April 12, 2023. The base game is the foundation of both the ordinary purchase and the Mercenaries Edition.
Buying the base game gives you Wartales itself. It does not, by that fact alone, mean that you own every product listed in a Mercenaries Edition bundle. Conversely, buying an edition that includes the base game does not guarantee that its contents match another platform’s edition.

Compete in 12 expansive maps against your friends on split-screen multiplayer, system link, and enhanced Xbox Live play.

Mercenaries Edition contents at a glance
The following table records the products shown on the two official listings reviewed on October 13, 2026. “Base game” means Wartales itself; “listed addition” means a separate item named by that storefront.
| Storefront listing | Base game | Listed additions | Soundtrack listed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Mercenaries Edition bundle | Wartales | The Skelmar Invasion; Pirates of Belerion; The Tavern Opens!; The Curse of Rigel; The Beast Hunt; The Pits; The Official Soundtrack; The Fief; Fires in the Capital | Yes |
| US Xbox Mercenaries Edition | Wartales | The Tavern Opens!; The Skelmar Invasion; The Pits; The Fief; The Curse of Rigel; The Beast Hunt; Pirates of Belerion; Fires in the Capital | No soundtrack item is listed |
Steam labels its offer as a bundle and shows ten products in the items section: the game plus nine additions. The US Xbox listing shows the game plus eight add-ons. The difference is the soundtrack entry; the eight named game add-ons appear on both reviewed pages.
Check the live listing before paying because these are commercial storefront pages, not a permanently fixed catalog. Product names, availability, regional presentation and bundle composition can change.
What the base-game purchase includes
The base-game purchase is the straightforward option for someone who wants Wartales itself. It is the open-world mercenary RPG described by Steam: you lead a group, travel through the setting, recruit companions, pursue bounties and investigate ancient tombs.
The base-game listing does not, by itself, establish ownership of the products named in the Mercenaries Edition table. If you buy the base game first and later decide that you want the additions, compare the later bundle or individual products against your library. A bundle can be less useful when it contains items you already own, depending on how that storefront handles duplicate ownership and bundle pricing.
Nothing in the reviewed listings establishes a separate physical edition, a physical accessory or a different base-game release for this comparison. The evidence concerns digital storefront products on Steam and the US Xbox Store.
What each listed addition means for this comparison
The storefronts provide product names, but the evidence used here does not establish a feature-by-feature description for every add-on. The safest way to interpret the package is therefore as a list of included products, not as a promise about a particular number of quests, maps, classes, hours or other gameplay features.

The Skelmar Invasion
This product is listed as an addition in both the Steam bundle and the US Xbox edition. The name alone does not establish its exact scope, launch requirements or whether it changes the main campaign.
Pirates of Belerion
Pirates of Belerion appears in both reviewed editions. Verify its listing on the platform where you intend to play if you need details such as installation behavior, supported modes or save compatibility.
The Tavern Opens!
The Tavern Opens! is named by both storefronts. The package comparison can confirm its inclusion, but not additional mechanics beyond what the individual product page states.
The Curse of Rigel
The Curse of Rigel is listed on Steam and Xbox as part of the Mercenaries Edition. Treat the title as an identifier rather than evidence of a particular story length or content type.
The Beast Hunt
The Beast Hunt is included in both reviewed lists. The official store page for your platform remains the appropriate place to check its current description.
The Pits
The Pits appears in both editions. No separate claim about its gameplay or progression should be inferred solely from the package name.
The Fief
The Fief is listed in both the Steam and US Xbox packages. Its presence in the table confirms inclusion, not a specific feature set.

The Official Soundtrack
The Official Soundtrack is the notable difference in the reviewed item lists. It is explicitly listed in the Steam bundle. It is not listed among the eight additions on the US Xbox page reviewed for this article. Do not assume that a soundtrack entitlement transfers between platforms or appears in every regional edition.
Why Steam and Xbox do not show the same package
A “Mercenaries Edition” name does not automatically define a universal inventory. Storefront operators can present products differently, and publishers can configure packages separately for each platform or region. The Steam and US Xbox pages demonstrate that practical issue: one lists a soundtrack and the other does not.
This does not prove that every Xbox region lacks a soundtrack, nor that every Steam regional page will always display the same items. The Xbox evidence is specifically for the United States listing, and the Steam evidence is for the linked Steam bundle. A reader in another country should open the local store page rather than extrapolate from the US listing.
Recommended Free Tools
The wording used by both pages is broad. Each description says, “The Mercenaries Edition offers you the complete Wartales experience.” That is official storefront copy, not a technical guarantee that every platform’s item list is identical. The item section is the more useful part of the page when you are deciding what you will actually receive.
Platform is a purchase variable
Steam and Xbox may use different package records, ownership systems and add-on delivery methods. Even when the game and add-on names match, the entitlement may be tied to the account and platform on which it was purchased. Confirm where you intend to play before assuming that a purchase on one storefront will unlock content on another.
Region is a second variable
The reviewed Xbox page is explicitly the US edition. Regional stores can show different prices, taxes, availability or product groupings. A US listing should not be used as a universal statement about Xbox editions elsewhere.
Store pages can change
These are live commercial listings. A publisher or storefront can revise an item list, change availability or alter how a bundle is displayed after this article is published. Reopen the linked page immediately before purchase.

- Choose the exact platform. Decide whether you will play through Steam or Xbox. Do not begin with a search result that points to a different storefront.
- Set the correct region. On Xbox, make sure the store is showing the country in which the purchasing account is located. The documented Xbox example is the US page at Wartales: The Mercenaries Edition.
- Open the edition’s item list. On Steam, expand the bundle’s items section at the Mercenaries Edition bundle page. On Xbox, inspect the included-products or add-ons area rather than relying only on the title.
- Write down the products you do not own. Compare each named item with your Steam or Xbox library. Pay particular attention to the base game, because an edition that includes it may overlap with a previous purchase.
- Look for the soundtrack separately. If the music is important to you, confirm that “The Official Soundtrack” is explicitly present. Its appearance on Steam does not establish inclusion on Xbox.
- Check the current price and discount. Prices and promotions change. Compare the live bundle price with the cost of the missing products, using the same currency and region.
- Review the purchase confirmation. Before completing checkout, verify the platform, account, region and named contents. Save the receipt or order page so you can identify what entitlement was purchased.
How ownership changes the value calculation
The Mercenaries Edition is most straightforward for a new buyer who wants the base game and all of the products displayed in that platform’s package. For an existing owner, the calculation is different: the relevant question is not the edition’s headline but how many listed products are still missing from the account.
If you own no Wartales products
Start by comparing the complete item list with your intended platform. If all of the listed additions are desirable and the bundle price is lower than buying the missing items separately, the edition may be the simpler purchase. The actual discount must be calculated from the live regional prices; no fixed price is established here.
If you already own the base game
Check whether the storefront offers a bundle adjustment or otherwise accounts for products already owned. Do not assume that paying for a package containing the base game will refund or remove the duplicate value. The purchase page’s price and eligibility details control.

Make a product-by-product list before checkout. A package can look comprehensive while adding only one or two items to your library. Compare the bundle’s current price with the cost of those missing products, not with the value of the entire catalog.
If you care about the soundtrack
Use Steam’s item list as the evidence for soundtrack inclusion in the reviewed package. If you are buying on Xbox, do not count the soundtrack unless the Xbox page explicitly adds it.

No fixed price comparison is established by the official pages used here. Storefront prices can change, sales can be time-limited and Xbox may display regional pricing. Any article or comparison that gives one permanent amount without naming the currency, region and date risks becoming inaccurate.
For a useful calculation, record three values from the same storefront at the same time:

- the current price of the base game;
- the current prices of the individual products you do not already own;
- the current Mercenaries Edition price and any displayed discount or ownership adjustment.
Do not mix a Steam price with an Xbox price, or a US price with another region’s price. Taxes, currency conversion and platform-specific promotions can change the result even when the product names are identical.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming the name defines the contents
The same edition name appears on Steam and Xbox, but the reviewed lists are not identical. Always inspect the item section.
Treating the Steam soundtrack as universal
The soundtrack is listed on Steam and absent from the reviewed US Xbox list. Count it only where the local purchase page names it.
Using a US listing for another country
The Xbox evidence is regional. Change the store region or open the correct local page before relying on price or availability.

Expecting feature details from a product name
The package list identifies products; it does not, by itself, establish quest counts, maps, playtime or technical requirements. Open each individual product page for those details.
Relying on an old sale price
Promotions expire. Use the live checkout price and note the currency and region instead of carrying forward a previous discount.
Which edition should you choose?
Choose the base game when
- You want to try the core open-world mercenary RPG without committing to the listed additions.
- You already own several of the add-ons and the bundle does not provide a useful ownership adjustment.
- Your platform’s edition list contains extras you do not want, such as a soundtrack that has no value for you.
Choose the Mercenaries Edition when
- You are new to Wartales and want the base game together with most or all of the products shown on your platform’s page.
- The live bundle price is lower than buying your missing products separately.
- You have confirmed the exact platform, region and item list, including whether the soundtrack is included.
Wait or compare individual products when
- You own the base game and several additions already.
- The bundle’s current price is close to the cost of only the one or two products you still want.
- You need a specific add-on but the edition’s list or availability is unclear in your region.
Official listings and wording
Use the official pages for the final check:
- Steam base-game listing — identifies Wartales and lists the April 12, 2023 release date.
- Steam Mercenaries Edition bundle — shows the bundle description and its ten listed products.
- US Xbox Mercenaries Edition — shows the US package with the base game and eight named add-ons.
“The Mercenaries Edition offers you the complete Wartales experience.”

This sentence appears in both storefront descriptions. Because it is broad promotional wording, use the accompanying product list—not the sentence alone—to determine what your account will receive.
Bottom line for buyers
Wartales is the base game; the Mercenaries Edition is a storefront-specific package of the game and additional products. The reviewed Steam bundle includes The Skelmar Invasion, Pirates of Belerion, The Tavern Opens!, The Curse of Rigel, The Beast Hunt, The Pits, The Official Soundtrack, The Fief and Fires in the Capital. The reviewed US Xbox edition includes the game and the eight named game add-ons but does not list the soundtrack.
