Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klíma hopes Grand Theft Auto 6 succeeds at its reported US price of $79.99 so other studios can find it easier to charge more for big-budget games. That is his hope—not evidence that AAA games are all moving to $80 or that Rockstar’s pricing will set an industry-wide rule.
Who wants GTA 6 to set an $80 standard?
Martin Klíma, a co-founder of Kingdom Come: Deliverance studio Warhorse Studios, made the case in an interview reported by PC Gamer on October 1, 2026. Klíma said GTA does not appeal to him personally, but he still hopes GTA 6 does well enough to make price increases less daunting for other developers.

“The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost,” Klíma said, according to PC Gamer’s interview report.

Why does Klíma think game prices should rise?
Klíma’s argument is that increasing development costs put pressure on studios, and that charging more per copy could help. He also says developers are afraid to raise prices because players may resist. These are his views on the business, not independently established financial findings.

He singled out Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two, as unusually able to take the risk: “Rockstar and Take-Two are the only ones who can afford, or who can dare, to increase the price of games, which I think is long overdue and also necessary for this business to survive.” VGC’s October 2, 2026 coverage summarized the same interview and central argument; it is corroborating reporting, not a separate interview.
How much is GTA 6, according to reports?
Trade press reports list two US edition prices. TechRadar reported them on August 11, 2026; VGC’s October 2 coverage rounded the Standard Edition price to $80 and referred to a $100 edition.

Does Klíma’s hope mean all AAA games will cost $80?
No. Klíma is hoping GTA 6’s success makes other studios more comfortable raising prices. The reporting does not establish that other publishers will follow, that $80 will become the standard, or that higher unit prices alone can make game development sustainable.

Take-Two has offered its own rationale for GTA 6’s price. CEO Strauss Zelnick told TechRadar: “Our goal is to deliver way more value to consumers than what we charge them.” He also described the game as an “incredible bargain.” Those are the publisher’s claims about value, not an objective assessment of what every player will consider worth the price.

For now, the practical takeaway is limited: the reported US Standard Edition price gives Klíma an example he hopes other studios can point to, while his remarks do not amount to an industry forecast.
