Warframe Update 44: Iceblade of Narin, released for PC on September 23, 2026, adds a new ice-themed Warframe, a Zariman enemy-and-currency loop, and Riven Trait Locking. In his October 2, 2026 column for Massively Overpowered, Eliot Lefebvre finds Narin’s combat kit appealing and the new enemy encounters an interesting reason to revisit the Zariman, but wishes the update gave its characters and threats more story context.
What Iceblade of Narin adds
Digital Extremes’ PC Update 44 introduces Narin as the game’s 66th Warframe. It also adds Entropic Eximus to Zariman missions, Entropic Kuva as a new exchange currency, and Riven Trait Locking. The official update notes describe those shipped features; Lefebvre’s column is an opinion piece about how they feel and fit together, not a comprehensive guide or independent performance test. How Narin’s kit plays
Narin’s abilities center on Cold effects and a blend of melee and ranged combat. The official notes describe Neote as a rapier lunge, Naraemagi as an ability that restores shields and can grant Overguard when shields are full, and Nurinarim as a temporary ice-skating attack mode. Her blueprints and those for her signature weapons are among the items available from Cephalon Melica.
Lefebvre’s reaction is positive: he likes the way the ice theme and different combat approaches fit together, and describes the kit as fun to use. That is his assessment, rather than a claim that the frame has been independently tested or will suit every player. His reservation is about narrative framing: he wanted more story context for Narin and the new enemies.
How to get Narin’s blueprints

Play Zariman missions, where Entropic Eximus appear. They are the source of Entropic Kuva; the update notes do not establish that every encounter guarantees a particular amount or drop.

Take the Entropic Kuva to Cephalon Melica at Yuvan’s Peak and check her wares. Narin’s blueprints and blueprints for her signature weapons are available in exchange for the currency.

This creates a progression loop in which the new enemy supplies the currency used to obtain the update’s new frame and weapons. Lefebvre likes that the encounters give players a reason to return to the Zariman.

Digital Extremes clarified the enemy’s defenses in Hotfix 44.0.1: non-melee damage is reduced by 90%, while damage from Operators is reduced by 75%. Their bubbles block projectiles and prevent Warframe abilities from damaging the Eximus. Melee damage empowered by the Iceblade of Narin buff, or a Tauron strike, can break a bubble.

Breaking the bubble does not remove the Eximus’s damage resistance. The encounter therefore encourages a change in approach rather than offering a simple bubble-breaking shortcut: ranged and ability damage remain heavily reduced, so melee engagement is central to dealing with the enemy.
What Riven Trait Locking changes
Update 44 lets players preserve one stat while cycling a Riven. Digital Extremes says, “One trait (stat) can be locked at a time while cycling a Riven, freezing it until the lock is removed or the Cycling menu is closed.” Locking does not itself require an item or cost, but cycling while a trait is locked doubles the Kuva cost.

Lefebvre sees the feature as a quality-of-life improvement, while noting that pursuing desired Riven stats can still require substantial time and Kuva. The lock protects a chosen trait; it does not make cycling cheaper.

Glacial Defiance and the question of access
Before launch, Digital Extremes described Glacial Defiance as a high-level, six-player mode involving Cryobells and weekly mission opportunities. In its Devstream 197 overview, the team said it intended to launch the mode with Iceblade of Narin but acknowledged that it might be delayed. That announcement establishes the planned timing, not the mode’s current availability; consult the game’s current official notes for its live status.
Lefebvre was concerned that a six-player activity without matchmaking could be difficult to approach. That is his view of the access barrier, not evidence that all players will find the mode inaccessible.
Other Update 44 additions
Update 44 also includes Citrine Prime and her signature Prime weapons, obtainable through Void Relics, as well as Prime Access packs, according to the official update notes. These are separate from Narin’s Entropic Kuva acquisition path: the update uses different routes for different items.
