1. REFY Lash Sculpt — “Best Clean Mascara”
Article price: $28. Espy-Jones says the curved wand may suit a simple, natural look, but felt it was too long for her eyes and did not grip her lashes well. She also found color payoff difficult to achieve and says this was the mascara she used least of the five. Her assessment is personal; it does not establish how the wand will fit other eye shapes.

2. Sisley Paris Phyto-Noir — “Best Lash Growth Mascara”
Article price: $90. Espy-Jones calls the applicator average and questions whether the results justify the price. She describes the formula’s purported lash-growth benefit as its saving grace, but that is her characterization, not evidence of lasting biological growth.
Sisley’s US product page describes Phyto-Noir as a skincare-infused mascara featuring a Vitamin Peptide and Resurrection Plant extract. The brand also claims “15 times more volume instantly”; its stated basis is photographic image analysis immediately after one application, averaged across 22 volunteers. 3. Prada Pradascope — “Best Wand Applicator”
Article price: $35. This is Espy-Jones’s most well-rounded pick and the one she recommends most. She likes the wand for separating and defining upper lashes, though she finds it a little wide for lower lashes. Prada describes the nylon-fiber brush as designed to capture lashes from root to tip; that is the brand’s product description, separate from the author’s ranking. 5. Byredo Tears In Rain — “Best Lower Lash Mascara”
Article price: $50. Espy-Jones praises its short, precise applicator for inner corners and lower lashes, where she likes to use one coat. She reports that it can clump when layered on upper lashes, a tradeoff to bear in mind if you like building coverage.

- For one versatile option, especially for upper-lash definition: Espy-Jones’s recommendation is Prada Pradascope. Its wider wand may be less comfortable for lower lashes.
- For precise lower lashes or inner corners: Byredo Tears In Rain is her specialist pick; she prefers a single coat there.
- For a dramatic, high-volume upper-lash look: She uses Pat McGrath Dark Star, while finding its wand cumbersome for everyday lower-lash work.
- For a pared-back look: REFY Lash Sculpt is labeled “Best Clean Mascara” in the article, but Espy-Jones personally found its long wand difficult to use and its color payoff hard to achieve.
