Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →No VPN has been independently shown to be the best choice for Rainbow Six Siege. The 2026 gaming VPN reviews that name the strongest candidates test games in general, not Siege, so none of them proves a lower Siege ping or steadier Siege matches. The practical answer is to shortlist the five providers named in those reviews, then measure whether a VPN improves your own connection before you pay for one.
What a VPN can and cannot change in a Siege connection
A VPN sends your traffic through an encrypted tunnel to the provider’s server, then onward to the game. That changes the route your packets take. Sometimes the new route is shorter or avoids a congested stretch of your internet provider’s network, and the ping drops. Often the extra hop adds latency instead. Which outcome you get depends on your ISP, your location, the VPN server you choose and the time of day.

A VPN cannot change several things that affect Siege connectivity. Ubisoft’s own explanation lists the parts of the path: “Connectivity is a varied topic that encompasses many different areas such as internet service providers, our backend services (such as matchmaking), our game servers, our game server provider, and even DDoS attacks.” A VPN touches only the first of those, and only the part between your device and the VPN server. Matchmaking, the game server host, and any DDoS attack or outage on Ubisoft’s side are outside its reach.
Ubisoft’s connectivity baseline
Ubisoft’s published figures give useful context, but they are older statements and should be read with their dates in mind.
#1 Best Overall
- Blazing-fast WiFi 7 boosts tri-band throughput up to 12000 Mbps with 320 MHz channels of 6 GHz band, Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and 4K-QAM
- Powerful wired network capacity of up to 20G with one 2.5G WAN port and seven 2.5G LAN ports.
- High-performance quad-core 2.0GHz CPU with robust cooling, 2GB RAM and eight internal antennas providing up to 3000 sq. ft. of range.
- Smart Home Master makes it easy to set up functional subnetwork (up to 3 SSIDs) for IoT devices and VPNs
- ROG-exclusive Gaming Network streamlines Triple-Level Game Acceleration setup and connections through convenient SSIDs
- Region selection. Ubisoft says Siege automatically connects a player to the data centre in their region. Its support material does not promise that a VPN will select a particular Siege region, so a VPN exit in another country may place you on a different data centre than you expect.
- Match quality. An older Ubisoft connectivity report said that during regular periods of activity, “97% of Ranked games start with 10 players, and more than 98.5% of matches end successfully without individual connection lost, high ping kicks, or game server crashes.” The page used for this article did not show the report’s date, so treat these as historical baseline figures, not a 2026 measure of VPN performance.
- Latency threshold. The same report stated, “Anything less than a ping of 110ms is considered acceptable.” This is a statement from an older report, not a guaranteed present-day cutoff or a target to optimise for.
- Server regions. The report listed West EU, North EU, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Australia, US West, US East, US Central South and Brazil as server regions at the time. Check the current in-game region list or Ubisoft’s support pages for the regions available to you now.
The five candidates
The five providers below appear in two 2026 gaming reviews: Top10VPN’s gaming guide, updated August 5, 2026, and PC Gamer’s VPN review dated April 29, 2026. Each entry shows what the source says and where its claim stops.
ExpressVPN
Top10VPN ranks ExpressVPN first in its gaming guide and cites console setup options, which matters if you play on PlayStation or Xbox and cannot run a VPN app directly. ExpressVPN’s own guidance says the effect a VPN has on ping depends on route conditions and on the game. Treat its performance language as provider guidance rather than a measured result.
Rank #2
- Beyond-fast WiFi 7 (802.11be) with new 320MHz channels in the 6 GHz band and 4096-QAM significantly increases network capacity and throughput, with speeds of up to 30 Gbps
- Multi-link Operation links to multiple bands at the same time to ensure stable internet connections and efficient data transfers
- Cutting-edge external dual-feeding antennas boost coverage by providing high efficiency and significantly enhanced signal strength
- Maximized wired connectivity and flexibility with dual 10G ports and quad 2.5G ports
- Triple-Level Game Acceleration - The GT-BE98 Pro boosts your PC gaming traffic every step of the way, from your PC gaming port all the way to the game server.
NordVPN
Top10VPN places NordVPN second and identifies it as the lowest-ping paid option in that guide’s own testing. NordVPN advises choosing nearby servers, using faster protocols and testing actual gameplay rather than relying on a speed test. The ping result belongs to Top10VPN’s testing for its guide, and the advice belongs to NordVPN.
Surfshark
Top10VPN includes Surfshark among its gaming picks. PC Gamer’s April 29, 2026 review discusses Surfshark’s WireGuard support and its broad device support, which are relevant if you want to run it on several devices. The measurements in that review are tied to the specific game and route the reviewer used.

Windscribe
Top10VPN names Windscribe its free gaming pick and notes a 10 GB monthly allowance on the free plan. PC Gamer reports low-ping observations in Counter-Strike 2 and records a compatibility issue with Valorant. Neither finding transfers to Siege, and the free allowance should be confirmed on the provider’s current plan page before you rely on it for a full season of matches.
Mullvad
PC Gamer includes Mullvad in its April 29, 2026 review as a privacy-focused provider. The material available for this article does not show a performance advantage for Siege, and it does not confirm that Mullvad supports every platform you might play on. Check its platform list before you choose it for a console.

How to test a VPN against your own Siege connection
A review’s ping figure tells you about one route on one day. Your own measurement is the one that decides whether a VPN is worth keeping. Use the same time window, the same match type and the same VPN server region for each comparison.
Recommended Free Tools
- Choose a test window. Pick a period when you normally play, such as weeknight evenings, and run both tests within that window so network load is similar.
- Record a baseline without the VPN. On Windows, open Command Prompt and run
ping -n 50 [test host]. On macOS or Linux, open Terminal and runping -c 50 [test host]. Use a stable host in the same region as the Siege data centre you normally connect to, if you can identify one. If you cannot, pinging your default gateway measures only your local connection, which is still useful for spotting Wi-Fi problems. - Read the summary. At the end of the output, note the average round-trip time and the packet loss percentage. Windows shows loss as “Lost = X (Y% loss)”. Note any large swings in the individual replies, since they indicate jitter.
- Repeat with the VPN connected. Connect to a server near you, using the protocol you intend to keep, and run the same ping command with the same count.
- Compare match stability over several games. Play a fixed number of ranked or standard matches with and without the VPN, and count disconnects, high-ping kicks and any games that fail to start with a full set of players.
- Decide. Keep the VPN only if packet loss and match stability are no worse, and the added latency is acceptable to you. If the VPN increases average ping or loss, disconnect it and compare the baseline again later, because a route can change from day to day.
Console players and VPN routers
If you play Siege on a console, you may not be able to run a VPN app on it. NordVPN explains that a VPN configured on a router can cover devices such as game consoles that have no VPN app. It distinguishes preconfigured routers from routers that need manual configuration, and advises checking that a router supports protocols such as OpenVPN or WireGuard and that your VPN service works with it. NordVPN names FlashRouters products as examples. No individual router was tested for Siege in the material used here, and a VPN router is a setup path rather than evidence of lower ping. Run the same baseline comparison described above after you configure one.

Anti-cheat and account rules
On August 7, 2026, Ubisoft News described a shared kernel-level anti-cheat solution in development, with Siege among the first games to adopt it in Season 3. The announcement also covers the R6 Shieldguard Secure Platform. It is a roadmap statement from that date, not confirmation of how the system works today. Nothing in it addresses VPN use, and a VPN does not make you immune to anti-cheat enforcement or account action. Read Ubisoft’s current rules and fair-play requirements before you change your network setup.
What the available evidence does not establish
- No Siege-specific VPN benchmark was found. The gaming reviews measure other games and conditions, and results can differ by country, ISP, protocol and server.
- No current full server directory for any of the five providers was confirmed.
- Current prices, renewal terms, free-plan limits beyond the one cited, and the existence or terms of any partner programme were not verified.
- No provider has been shown to be approved, or unapproved, for use with Siege by Ubisoft.
For a decision you can make now, start with your own baseline, then test one candidate at a time against it.
