Speed: what the Brazil data shows and does not
Comparitech’s Brazil destination dashboard
Comparitech’s country-destination dashboard was updated on 6 October 2026. For Brazil, it had qualifying measurements for 9 of 69 providers, and it scores results by protocol family.

That figure describes coverage, not a result. The dashboard’s headline figures depend on its method and describe its own test set, not the connection you have at home. The cited material does not name the nine providers, so this guide cannot say whether any of the five covered here is among them.

TechRadar’s testing
TechRadar’s 2026 coverage describes its own multi-provider speed testing and names an overall favorite for the year. Those tests are broad and run under TechRadar’s own setup. They are not a Brazil-specific comparison and do not rank the five providers in this guide from a Brazilian location. Treat them as a separate data point from the Comparitech dashboard.
Run your own Brazil speed check
A fair comparison from your own location needs the same conditions for every provider. Use this sequence:
- Record your city, your internet provider, the device you are testing on and the app version.
- Run a speed test with the VPN off, at least five times, to set a baseline for download speed, upload speed and latency.
- Pick one server rule and apply it to every provider, such as the Brazilian server closest to you or the server the app selects automatically. Record which rule you used.
- Use the same protocol in each app where it is offered, and do not change the setting between runs.
- Test at several times of day, including your usual busy hours, across several days.
- Run at least five tests per server and record the median, not a single result.
- Express each VPN result as a percentage of your no-VPN baseline so the comparison holds across connections.
Privacy: what the audits cover
A no-logs claim is only as strong as the evidence behind it. The three providers with named reviews differ in what they examined and when.

NordVPN’s is the provider’s account of reviews of its no-logs practices, and the cited material gives that account rather than the reports themselves. Surfshark’s is an assurance report whose conclusions apply only to the controls and period it covers.

The word “examined” limits the finding to the server infrastructure Securitum inspected during the engagement. It does not describe every system Proton operates, every app feature, or the company’s practices after the engagement ended.

Questions to ask about any no-logs claim
- What account data does the provider keep, and which connection or activity logs does the claim exclude?
- Which servers or systems did the examiner inspect?
- What period did the review cover, and when was the report published?
- Is the full report public, or only a summary?
- Does the provider’s jurisdiction matter for your threat model?
What a VPN changes
A VPN moves trust from your local network and internet provider to the VPN company. It does not make you anonymous, and it does not stop websites from identifying you through logins or cookies.

Are VPNs legal in Brazil?
VPN use is generally described as legal in Brazil, but a VPN does not exempt anyone from applicable laws or court orders. Check current Brazilian rules for your specific use. This is general information, not legal advice for a particular situation.
The Câmara dos Deputados published a news item dated 20 August 2025 reporting that a committee had approved a bill concerning VPN use. The item summarizes VPN use as legal when it is not used for illegal activity or to evade judicial decisions. That describes committee action on a bill, not the enacted text, so it cannot settle the law on its own.
ANPD, Brazil’s data protection authority, publishes a Marco Civil da Internet page noting regulatory changes taking effect in 2026 for internet application providers. That page is not a VPN legality guide, and it does not establish a general logging requirement for VPN providers.
