The table intentionally does not show universal prices. Subscription prices and renewal amounts depend on location, plan length, currency, taxes, and promotions. Record the exact figures displayed at checkout instead of relying on a price seen in an older article or advertisement.

Who can use the trial
NordVPN’s documented seven-day trial is restricted to new users. Eligibility also depends on the country, the plan term, and the payment method. The support terms identify selected one-year and two-year plans and list the countries where the trial is available; a person outside those conditions should not assume the offer will appear.
Credit card and PayPal are the payment methods identified for this trial. What happens after seven days

Canceling and avoiding later renewals

NordVPN says subscriptions renew automatically at the then-applicable renewal price unless canceled. The amount shown at trial conversion and the amount at a later renewal can differ, so record both when the checkout page displays them. If a paid charge has already occurred, consult the separate 30-day money-back terms rather than assuming a trial cancellation can be backdated.

It is useful when you are not eligible for the seven-day trial, when you choose a plan or payment method outside the trial rules, or when you decide the service is unsuitable after paying. It should be evaluated separately from the trial’s country, new-user, plan-term, and payment restrictions.
ExpressVPN: a short mobile trial and a paid 30-day window
The three-day trial
ExpressVPN documents a three-day free trial for iOS and Android. That platform restriction matters: a person signing up through a desktop website should not expect the mobile trial to be attached to the same account flow. The offer is also separate from the provider’s 30-day guarantee.

App-store exclusions
ExpressVPN states that subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play do not receive its standard website-purchase guarantee. Refunds for those transactions are handled by the relevant app store. Canceling an app-store subscription and requesting a refund are separate actions: cancellation generally prevents another renewal, while the store’s refund process determines whether money is returned.
To reduce confusion, identify the billing channel before purchase. For a website subscription, use the provider’s support route and keep the payment receipt. For an Apple or Google subscription, use the store’s subscription-management and refund tools, follow its deadlines, and do not wait until after the next renewal.
Proton VPN: a permanent free tier versus a paid-plan guarantee
What the free plan is
Proton VPN documents a no-data-limit free plan. That is an ongoing free service tier, not a seven-day or 30-day trial of the paid plan. You can evaluate whether the free service meets your needs without entering a paid subscription, but features and plan capabilities should be compared on the current plan page before you decide that it replaces a paid trial.

The paid-plan 30-day guarantee
Proton describes paid subscriptions as “Try any paid plan risk-free with our 30-day money-back guarantee.” The wording refers to a refund window after purchase. It does not turn the free tier into a trial of every paid feature, and it does not establish that every payment method or promotion has identical eligibility.
If you upgrade, save the order date and the exact refund deadline. Review the current refund instructions before paying, then submit any request through the channel specified for that purchase. Do not assume that merely downgrading to the free plan automatically creates a refund; cancellation and refund requests can be different steps.

How to test a VPN offer without an unwanted charge
- Identify the offer type. Write down whether the page promises a free trial, a money-back guarantee, or an ongoing free tier. A “30-day risk-free” statement usually means you pay first and request a refund later.
- Check eligibility before entering payment details. Confirm your country, new-user status, device platform, plan duration, and accepted payment method. A trial visible to one region or app store may not be available in another.
- Read the conversion sentence. Look for the date or duration of the trial, the amount charged at conversion, and whether the plan starts automatically. For a guarantee, record the charge that will occur immediately.

Ignoring the seller on your bank statement
The entity that processed the payment determines where cancellation and refund requests belong. A website purchase, an Apple subscription, and a Google subscription can have different controls even when the app looks identical.
