The brand lists it at £50,000, and T3 reports that only one was made. It is a striking material experiment, not a proven replacement for a technical waterproof shell: neither Vollebak’s product description nor T3 supplies a waterproof rating or comparative shell test.
What is the Rock Jacket made of?
Vollebak describes the jacket as using 5mm × 5mm slate tiles on a neoprene backing. Its product page introduces the idea with the line, “No one has tried to make rock wearable. Until now.” That is brand copy; the physical construction is slate attached to a flexible backing, not a garment made from a solid piece of rock.

T3’s 5 October 2026 report gives more detail on the fabrication. It says the slate begins as sheets measuring 100cm × 50cm and 0.5mm thick, which are cut into 5mm squares and attached to neoprene. T3 reports that making the material takes around 50 steps. These process details are reported by T3; Vollebak’s visible product description confirms the tile size and neoprene backing, but not the full sequence.

Why does it cost £50,000?
The product page lists the Rock Jacket at £50,000. The price sits alongside an unusual, labor-intensive construction and a reported one-off production run, rather than a conventional volume-made outdoor shell. T3 says French designer and material technologist Steven Leprizé worked on the project, adapting his WooWood elastic marquetry technique by using slate tiles in place of wood.

That context explains what makes the garment exceptional; it does not establish that it offers exceptional weather protection or performance. The price is the listed price, not evidence of a particular technical specification.
Is the slate jacket waterproof like GORE-TEX?
There is no published evidence in the cited product description or T3 report that the Rock Jacket has GORE-TEX-like waterproof or breathable performance. Neither source provides a waterproof rating, a breathability figure or a comparative test. Slate on neoprene describes the material construction, not a verified level of protection from rain.

T3 describes a cropped Harrington-style shape, visible taped seams, Cordura pockets and a zip. Those are design and construction details, not a substitute for a stated waterproof specification. It would be inaccurate to treat the jacket as a technical rain shell or recommend it in place of proven outdoor gear on the available information.

Can you buy Vollebak’s Rock Jacket?
T3 reports that only one jacket was made. Vollebak’s New Releases collection showed the Rock Jacket as sold out when accessed on 5 October 2026.
