If your vMix YouTube stream goes black between videos, first find out whether the clips are separate inputs in PlayList or multiple files in one List input. Then check the relevant transition or playback controls and compare vMix’s program output with a local recording and the YouTube player. The cause can differ by setup; a black gap alone does not identify a single fault.
First identify which vMix playback feature you are using
vMix has two workflows that can look similar on air but have different controls:

- PlayList: a sequence of inputs, with settings such as duration, transition, transition duration, and display type for individual items.
- List: one input that plays a sequence of video or audio files. Its playback controls include Auto Next, Auto First, and Loop.
Open the relevant window or input and confirm which workflow contains the clips before changing settings. A PlayList transition adjustment will not fix a disabled file in a List input, and List controls do not govern separate PlayList inputs.

Fix a gap in a PlayList
- Inspect the item before and after the gap. In the PlayList window, check each item’s duration, transition, transition duration, and display type. Confirm that the preceding item is not ending earlier than intended and that the next item’s transition is configured as expected.
- Check for Overlay display type. An overlay playlist item is displayed over the preceding item for its configured duration. If items are being sent to an overlay, watch the underlying live or program output during the handoff. A momentary return to that underlying view could appear as a black interval if that view is black.
- Test a different handoff. If the gap occurs with overlay items, temporarily test a cut or a main-program transition instead. A vMix forum user described an overlay being cut off before the next item faded in in their 2021 setup; that is a case worth testing, not proof that every overlay playlist has this behavior.
- Save and verify the active preset. PlayList settings are saved with the active preset. Make sure you are testing the preset that contains the settings you changed.
Change one setting at a time and test the same handoff again. That makes it easier to tell whether a particular duration, display type, or transition is responsible.

Fix a gap in a List input
- Check Auto Next. Auto Next is enabled by default. If you expect files to advance automatically, verify that it is still enabled.
- Check Auto First. Confirm whether its current behavior matches the point from which you expect the List to begin or restart.
- Check Loop. If the black gap happens at the end of the sequence, verify that Loop is configured as intended.
- Look for disabled entries. Confirm that the file at the transition is not disabled. A disabled item can change which file plays next.
List plays video and audio files sequentially as one input, and vMix says it does not require all the files to be loaded at once. It also supports M3U lists.
Find where the black interval first appears
Compare the same transition in vMix and on YouTube. This separates an issue visible in the production output from one that appears later in the viewing path; it does not, by itself, prove that YouTube caused the gap.

- Watch vMix’s program output during the handoff.
- Make a local recording of the same output and inspect the exact interval.
- Compare that recording with the YouTube playback at the same transition.
If the program output and local recording both go black, focus on the PlayList or List configuration and what is visible beneath an overlay. If they remain normal but YouTube playback shows a gap, record that distinction and include it when seeking help rather than assuming a playlist setting is the cause.

Troubleshoot by symptom

If the problem remains, provide vMix support or a knowledgeable helper with the vMix version, whether playback uses PlayList or List, the relevant item settings, the exact interval, and whether it appears in program output, a local recording, or only on YouTube. Without those details, the symptom does not establish a more specific fix.

Choose PlayList or List for the job

Both features can support basic sequential playback and looping. They are not a substitute for time-of-day broadcast scheduling: vMix says its built-in features do not support scheduling programming by time of day.
