VIZIO Smart TV Apps: Find, Add, Organize, and Watch More

VIZIO Smart TVs use VIZIO OS, a built-in platform with a catalog VIZIO currently describes as containing more than 300 apps. You can open the TV’s Apps menu, add services to the Home screen, and rearrange them for faster access. The exact catalog and menu wording depend on your TV model, region, and software version, so treat the live catalog on your own set as the final authority.

VIZIO lists services such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Apple TV+, and YouTube on its VIZIO OS page. Those examples do not guarantee that every service appears on every generation of television. This guide explains how to find an app, add and organize it, understand WatchFree+, pair the mobile app, and troubleshoot availability without assuming that all VIZIO televisions have identical software.

What apps are built into a VIZIO Smart TV?

VIZIO OS is the smart-TV platform installed on VIZIO televisions rather than a separate device you download. VIZIO describes it as “the smart platform built into VIZIO Smart TVs.” Its current product pages advertise a catalog of more than 300 streaming apps, but that number is a company-reported, changing count rather than an independent audit. Apps can be added from the television’s catalog and placed on the Home screen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The catalog mixes subscription services, free ad-supported services, and VIZIO’s own WatchFree+ destination. A listing means the service is supported somewhere in the VIZIO ecosystem; it does not prove that the app is offered on your particular model, in your country, or on your current software build. Search the TV’s own Apps menu before subscribing or buying another device.

What you are checking What it means What to do
App appears in the TV catalog Your model and software currently expose an installation or add option. Add it from the Apps menu and follow the service’s sign-in instructions.
App appears on VIZIO’s web catalog but not on the TV The web listing may cover other models, regions, or software versions. Use the TV catalog and the model-specific support information as the deciding source.
App opens but asks for payment The app is installed, but its content is controlled by a separate subscription. Check the service’s current plan terms; VIZIO does not make third-party subscriptions free.
WatchFree+ appears It is VIZIO’s built-in free-content destination, separate from paid streaming apps. Open it directly and follow any account prompt shown on your television.

For a second reference, VIZIO maintains a public app catalog. Inventory and placement can change, so a dated web page should not override what your TV currently displays.

How do I add an App to my VIZIO Smart TV?

VIZIO Support uses that exact question in its instructions. The general workflow is straightforward, although the button names and screen layout can differ between newer VIZIO OS televisions and older SmartCast generations.

  1. Connect the television to the internet. Open the TV’s network settings, join your Wi-Fi network or connect Ethernet, and confirm that the set reports an internet connection. An app catalog cannot load reliably while the TV is offline.
  2. Open the Apps menu. From the Home screen, select the Apps option. On some models this is a prominent tile; on others it is reached through a row or an on-screen menu. Use the label shown on your set rather than relying on a button sequence from another model.
  3. Browse or search for the service. Move through categories or use the catalog’s search function. VIZIO’s current Home screen describes the menu as offering more than 300 apps, but the results shown to you are the relevant list.
  4. Select the app and choose the add or install command. Confirm the on-screen prompt. Some built-in services may open immediately instead of showing a conventional download progress bar.
  5. Wait for the app to finish adding. Keep the TV connected while the process completes. If the catalog returns to the previous screen without adding the app, reopen it and check whether the service is already present on the Home screen.
  6. Sign in only when the app requests it. A third-party account or paid subscription is separate from your VIZIO account. Enter credentials on the TV or use the service’s approved activation method; never assume that adding an icon includes access to paid programming.
  7. Move the icon if you want faster access. Use the Home screen’s move or reorder command, described in the next section.

VIZIO’s official support article, How to Find, Add, and Manage Apps on a VIZIO or onn powered by VIZIO TV, is the best place to match the labels on a particular set. Its directions may evolve as the interface changes, so read the prompts on your television as you work.

If the app cannot be found

  • Search by the service’s exact name and check spelling.
  • Restart the TV and reopen the Apps menu so the catalog can refresh.
  • Verify that the TV is online and that its region is supported by the service.
  • Check for a software update in the TV’s settings, then search again.
  • Look up the model on VIZIO Support. An older SmartCast television may not expose every current VIZIO OS feature.

Do not sideload an unrelated phone or Android-TV package. VIZIO’s supported catalog, not an external download, determines whether an app is designed for your television.

Can I customize the apps on my Home Screen?

Yes. VIZIO says the Home screen lets you add, remove, and reorder apps. Customization affects the shortcuts shown on your Home screen; it does not convert a paid service into a free one or add an app that your model does not support.

Reorder apps

  1. Open the Home screen and highlight the app icon.
  2. Choose the move, edit, or reorder action displayed by your TV.
  3. Move the icon to the desired position and confirm.
  4. Repeat for the services you use most, placing them near the beginning of the row or grid.

Remove an app shortcut

Select the app on the Home screen and choose the remove or delete option if your model presents one. Removing a shortcut is not necessarily the same as cancelling a subscription. Cancel billing with the service that charges you, then manage the TV icon separately.

Why your screen may look different

VIZIO has shipped multiple SmartCast and VIZIO OS generations. A current Home screen description is not a promise that an older set has the same menu, voice controls, or app-management commands. If a move or remove command is absent, use the model’s own on-screen options and support documentation rather than forcing a procedure from a newer television.

What streaming apps are available on VIZIO OS?

VIZIO’s current OS page names Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Apple TV+, and YouTube among its services. The company also advertises a catalog of more than 300 apps on current Home and OS pages, accessed October 13, 2026. Because apps are licensed and updated independently, availability can differ by television, country, and software version.

Option type Typical cost model Where it plays Account considerations
Third-party subscription app Monthly or annual fee set by the service; some offer trials or free tiers. Usually the VIZIO TV app; the same service may also have phone or web apps. Requires the service’s own account, and often a current subscription.
Free, ad-supported app No subscription may be needed, but advertising and registration can apply. Availability depends on the app and your model. “Free” does not guarantee anonymous access or every title.
WatchFree+ VIZIO describes it as a free service supported by advertising. Built into supported VIZIO televisions; selected live viewing is also available in the mobile app. Current VIZIO OS and WatchFree+ pages say a customer account is required, while the Home screen page says no login is needed. Follow the prompt on your device.

Use the app’s listing and sign-in screen to determine the current price and account requirement. VIZIO’s app catalog does not establish subscription prices, regional rights, or a universal launch date for every model.

What is WatchFree+ and how is it different from an app subscription?

WatchFree+ is VIZIO’s separate free-content destination, not a bundle that unlocks every third-party streaming app. On its current Home screen page, VIZIO reports more than 300 live channels and more than 30,000 on-demand movies and shows. Those counts are publisher-reported and can change.

WatchFree+ is free to watch according to VIZIO, but free does not necessarily mean account-free. VIZIO’s current VIZIO OS and WatchFree+ mobile pages state that a customer account is required, while the Home screen page says no login is needed. The practical solution is to follow the account prompt shown by your TV and avoid assuming that one page applies to every software version.

Live channels versus on-demand titles

Live channels behave like a channel guide: choose a channel and watch its current programming. On-demand titles are selected individually and can be searched. The catalog, advertising, and exact counts are subject to change.

  • More streaming, less searching: With personalized picks right on your Home Screen, quick access to the sports and entertainment you watch most, and fast and easy search in one place—the days of endless scrolling are over.

Do not confuse the current figure with VIZIO’s older announcement. In an April 2, 2025 redesign announcement, VIZIO reported more than 25,000 on-demand movies and shows; its current Home page reports more than 30,000. The dates explain the difference rather than proving that every television received an identical library update.

Recent interface changes

VIZIO’s June 29, 2026 update says WatchFree+ added live and on-demand recommendations to its guide and a Continue Watching feature on the Home screen. These are dated feature claims, not a guarantee for every older model. If the controls are missing, check your TV’s software version and model support before assuming the feature is broken. The update is documented at VIZIO’s June 2026 WatchFree+ guide announcement.

Can I use the VIZIO mobile app to watch or control my TV?

VIZIO’s mobile app can act as a remote for a paired television and can stream WatchFree+ live channels on a phone. Pairing requires the phone and TV to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The mobile app is therefore useful for control and selected viewing, but it is not a complete replacement for the TV’s app catalog.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Install the official VIZIO mobile app on your phone.
  2. Connect the phone to the same Wi-Fi network used by the television.
  3. Open the app and choose the option to add or pair a TV.
  4. Select the television shown on the network and complete the pairing code or confirmation displayed on both devices.
  5. Use the remote controls or WatchFree+ section in the app according to the options presented for your model.

VIZIO documents the mobile experience at VIZIO Mobile. If the TV does not appear, verify the two devices are on the same network, disable a guest-network isolation setting if your router uses one, and reopen the app. A phone on cellular data or a different Wi-Fi network will not satisfy the documented pairing requirement.

Important limit for on-demand playback

According to VIZIO’s WatchFree+ on-demand information, the mobile app can search for on-demand titles, but playback requires a linked television. VIZIO’s WatchFree+ mobile page describes live-channel viewing on a phone. In other words, finding a movie on your phone does not mean the movie will play there; an on-demand selection may need to be sent to the paired TV.

How to choose between apps on a VIZIO TV

1. Content and price

Start with the program or genre you need, then identify whether the service is subscription-based, free with advertising, or included in another package. WatchFree+ is VIZIO’s free destination; named third-party apps set their own prices and billing rules.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Where playback happens

If you want viewing on the television, confirm that the app appears in its TV catalog. If you want phone viewing, check the service’s mobile support separately. WatchFree+ demonstrates why this matters: live channels can stream in the mobile app, while on-demand playback requires a linked TV.

3. Availability on your exact set

Search the TV first. A web catalog can be broader than the software installed on an older or region-specific model. Record the model number and software version when contacting support so the answer applies to your hardware.

4. Account requirements

Separate three things: adding an icon, creating a VIZIO customer account, and paying a third-party subscription. They are different actions. The conflicting WatchFree+ statements about login requirements make the on-screen prompt especially important.

5. Discovery and control

Some viewers value a simple Home-screen shortcut; others need voice search, watchlists, recommendations, or a phone remote. VIZIO’s Home screen supports adding, removing, and reordering apps, while WatchFree+ has dated recommendations and Continue Watching updates on supported software. Compare the controls you actually see on your TV rather than assuming that a feature shown in a current advertisement exists on every generation.

Troubleshooting: apps missing, stuck, or refusing to play

The catalog will not load

  • Test another built-in app to distinguish an internet problem from a catalog problem.
  • Restart the TV, router, and modem in that order, then wait for the network to return.
  • Confirm the TV’s date, region, and network settings are correct.
  • Check VIZIO Support for a service interruption or model-specific instruction.

The app is listed but will not add

  • Make sure there is enough available TV storage if your model reports storage information.
  • Remove an unused shortcut only if the TV offers that command, then retry.
  • Install any pending TV software update.
  • Search the service again after a full restart; do not install an unofficial package.

The app opens but playback fails

  • Confirm the subscription or account is active with the service provider.
  • Sign out and back in if the app’s own menu offers those controls.
  • Check whether the title is available in your region and plan.
  • Try another title to determine whether the problem affects one program or the entire app.
  • For WatchFree+, follow the current account prompt and verify the TV is online.

The phone cannot find the TV

Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, not one on a guest network and the other on the main network. Reopen the VIZIO mobile app, restart the TV, and repeat pairing. The same-Wi-Fi requirement comes from VIZIO’s mobile guidance.

What prospective buyers should verify before choosing a VIZIO TV

The built-in platform is convenient because no separate streaming box is required for supported apps, but the buying decision should be model-specific. Before purchasing, open the exact model’s specifications or ask the retailer for its software generation, then verify the apps you personally use. A general claim of more than 300 apps does not guarantee every title on every television.

  • Check whether your essential services appear in the current catalog for the exact model and region.
  • Confirm the television can connect to your home network in the location where it will be installed.
  • Ask whether the model uses the current VIZIO OS experience or an older SmartCast generation.
  • Decide whether you need phone control, WatchFree+ live mobile viewing, or on-demand playback through a linked TV.
  • Read the current account prompts and subscription terms for services you plan to use.

For current owners, these checks are also useful after a software update or move to a new country: app inventory and rights can change without the physical television changing.

Keeping your app experience manageable

Put the services used daily at the front of the Home screen and leave occasional apps farther back. Remove shortcuts you no longer need, but treat subscription cancellation as a separate billing task. Recheck the catalog when an app disappears instead of assuming the TV is defective; licensing, regional availability, and software generation can all affect what is shown.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When a feature differs from an online description, note the TV model, software version, country, and exact on-screen message. That information lets VIZIO Support determine whether the behavior is expected for your set. It also prevents a common mistake: applying instructions written for a current VIZIO OS interface to a legacy SmartCast television.

Bottom line: the practical way to discover VIZIO TV apps

Open the Apps menu on your own VIZIO Smart TV, search for the service, add it, and organize the shortcut on the Home screen. Use VIZIO’s web pages for orientation, not as a universal compatibility list. Treat WatchFree+ as a separate free-content option, follow the account prompt shown on your software version, and remember that mobile live viewing and on-demand playback have different rules. The catalog is broad, but the model-specific screen in front of you is the final answer.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
