On the official India store listings checked on 7 October 2026, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 5G is priced at ₹27,999 and the vivo Y51 Pro 5G (8GB/128GB) at ₹34,999, a listed gap of ₹7,000 in the Redmi’s favour. On paper, the Redmi also has the sharper AMOLED display and the larger typical battery. The vivo has the higher ingress-protection ratings and the higher stated maximum video resolution. Neither result is a hands-on performance verdict, and the prices can move.
What the price gap actually means
The headline difference comes from two manufacturer storefronts, both read on 7 October 2026. Before comparing, check the exact configuration, because the two listings are not built the same way.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 5G
- Current listed price: ₹27,999 on the Xiaomi India Official Store.
- The same listing also shows a ₹39,999 marketing price. That figure is a reference price, not the amount a buyer currently pays, so do not use it as the baseline for the gap.
- The Redmi is sold in 6GB and 8GB RAM options with 128GB storage, according to Xiaomi’s India specifications page.
vivo Y51 Pro 5G
- Listed price: ₹34,999 for the 8GB/128GB configuration, including taxes, on the vivo India official store.
- The selected listing was marked unavailable when checked. A listed price with no stock is not an in-stock offer, so confirm availability before treating ₹34,999 as a purchase price.
- vivo’s specification page also lists a 256GB storage option; its price was not part of the checked listing.
A secondary comparison page, Gadgets Now, also showed ₹27,999 for the Redmi. It was used only as a cross-check; the Xiaomi store is the reference for the Redmi price. Exchange offers, bank discounts and marketplace prices are separate from these listed figures and were not evaluated.

Display
The Redmi’s panel is the stronger specification on paper. Its AMOLED panel is 6.99 inches at 2396×1080, against vivo’s 6.75-inch LCD at 1570×720. Both advertise a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. A maximum rate does not tell you how often the screen runs at that rate in everyday use, and power-saving behaviour varies by app and setting. Panel type and resolution are the figures to compare; contrast, brightness and colour accuracy were not measured in the checked sources.

Processor and performance
The two phones use different chips: a MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo in the vivo and a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 in the Redmi. Peak CPU clock figures (2.5GHz against 2.3GHz) do not establish which chip is faster, because architecture, memory configuration and thermal behaviour all affect results. No independent benchmark, gaming test or sustained-load comparison of these two exact phones was located, so this article does not rank them on performance.

Battery and charging
The Redmi lists the larger battery at 8000mAh typical, compared with 7200mAh typical for the vivo. Its wired charging is listed at 45W, against 44W. These are manufacturer figures. They do not show how long either phone lasts under a given workload, or how quickly it charges in practice, since real charging speed depends on the charger, cable and battery temperature.

- 3 Pack Screen Saver Screen Protector Tempered Glass
- Premium Oleophobic Coating for Clean & Clear Screen, Oil-resistant coating repels fingerprints, sweat, and smudges, so the screen stays clean and transparent without blurring or fogging, keeping visuals sharp at all times.
Cameras and video
Both phones use a 50-megapixel rear camera; the vivo adds a 2MP secondary sensor. Both list an 8MP front camera. The clearest difference is video: vivo lists 4K recording, while Xiaomi’s India specification table lists up to 1080p. Megapixel counts do not show photo quality, which depends on sensor size, lens, processing and low-light performance. No side-by-side photo or video samples from either phone were checked, so the article does not judge image quality.
Water and dust protection
vivo lists IP68 and IP69 ratings. Xiaomi’s India page lists IP65. These are laboratory classifications for dust and water ingress under defined test conditions. They are not a guarantee against all liquid damage, and they do not cover accidental immersion in salt water, soap, or other liquids unless the manufacturer says so. Warranty coverage for liquid damage follows the terms of each manufacturer and seller.

Software and updates
The vivo runs OriginOS 6 on Android 16, and the Redmi runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3. The checked sources do not give comparable update commitments for both phones. Look up the update policy for your model and region on the manufacturer’s site before buying, particularly if you plan to keep the phone for several years.
Connectivity, SIM and storage
vivo lists two nano-SIM slots, and its 5G band list covers n1, n3, n5, n8, n28B, n38, n40, n41, n77 and n78. Xiaomi lists 5G connectivity and expandable storage on its India page, but the dual-SIM and microSD tray arrangement depends on the specific SKU, so confirm it on the product page before buying. Check the bands against your carrier’s network, particularly for an imported unit.

- Check first the update policy, the exact SKU you can buy in your region, and local carrier band support.
This is a specification-based comparison. It is not a recommendation based on hands-on testing.
Regional and source limits
Use the India pages for India prices and specifications. Xiaomi’s Chile specifications page lists different memory, camera and battery details from the India listing, so do not use it to describe the Indian model. The prices above are dated listed prices for 7 October 2026, and both stores may change them or their stock status without notice. The figures in this article come from manufacturer specification pages and store listings, not from independent testing. Attribute them to the manufacturer and the model, and check the storefront before you buy.
