Which phone should you buy?
Buy the vivo if your priority is long-range photography hardware
The X500 Pro Max is the more ambitious choice on paper for someone who regularly photographs distant wildlife, sports, stage performances or travel details. Its 200 MP ZEISS APO telephoto is specified at 3.5x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, and vivo describes the camera as an 85 mm-equivalent lens. A separately sold, compatible 400 mm-equivalent vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2 Ultra can take that concept much farther. The extender is an optional accessory, not a standard inclusion unless your local package explicitly says so.

- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
That recommendation only makes sense if the phone and accessory are actually sold in your country, support your carrier and come with usable local warranty service. Vivo’s launch announcement said Kenyan price and availability details would be announced later; it did not establish worldwide retail coverage.
Buy the Samsung if you want a mature multi-camera layout and privacy-focused features
The Galaxy S26 Ultra gives you two dedicated telephoto focal lengths—3x and 5x—rather than one stated optical telephoto plus an accessory. Its 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, built-in Privacy Display and Galaxy AI feature set may also matter more than maximum telephoto reach. Samsung lists Now Nudge, Now Brief, Circle to Search, and integration options including Gemini and Perplexity, although individual experiences can depend on region, language, software version, setup and app context.
Samsung’s US announcement establishes a launch price and a general-availability date, but you still need a local quotation. Taxes, promotions, storage configuration, warranty terms and carrier compatibility can change the purchase decision.

vivo X500 Pro Max China suggested prices
vivo’s China specification page lists the following suggested retail prices:
| Configuration | China suggested price |
|---|---|
| 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage | CNY 6,999 |
| 12 GB RAM + 512 GB storage | CNY 7,999 |

| 16 GB RAM + 1 TB storage, satellite communications edition | CNY 9,499 |
| 16 GB RAM + 1 TB creator kit | CNY 12,999 |
Those figures are China suggested prices from the official vivo X500 Pro Max specification page. They are not a current price in another country and do not automatically include import costs, local taxes, a local warranty or the telephoto extender.
Samsung’s US launch price
Samsung’s 25 February 2026 US announcement lists Galaxy S26 Ultra storage options of 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, with pricing starting at USD 1,299.99. It says general availability starts on 11 March 2026. This is a US launch figure, not a universal international price or a like-for-like comparison with any particular Vivo configuration.

Display: 144 Hz versus adaptive 120 Hz
What vivo publishes
The X500 Pro Max has a 6.85-inch AMOLED display with 3168 × 1440 resolution and a 1–144 Hz refresh range. A 144 Hz ceiling can be attractive for compatible games and very fast scrolling, while the 1 Hz lower bound is designed to reduce refresh activity when content is static. The specification alone does not establish brightness, outdoor legibility, color accuracy, touch latency or battery life at a particular setting.
What Samsung publishes
Samsung lists a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh and 2600 nits peak brightness. The 6.9-inch measurement is for the full rectangle; with rounded corners included in the measurement method, Samsung says the visible equivalent is 6.7 inches. Its adaptive system can vary refresh rate to suit content, but the announcement does not state how often each rate is used in particular apps.
How to choose
Choose based on the content you actually view rather than the headline number. The Vivo offers the higher published maximum refresh rate; Samsung supplies a published peak-brightness figure and a privacy mode that can narrow viewing angles. If you read outdoors, play high-frame-rate games or use a stylus, inspect the local demonstration unit and check whether your preferred apps support the relevant modes.
Camera systems and shooting styles
vivo’s single high-resolution telephoto approach
vivo lists a 50 MP main camera, a 200 MP ZEISS APO telephoto and a 50 MP ultrawide. The rear main and telephoto cameras support optical image stabilization (OIS), and vivo says video stabilization is available on both front and rear cameras. The specification page gives 3.5x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.
The launch announcement adds a practical description: an 85 mm-equivalent telephoto, subject tracking at up to 60 frames per second in Snapshot Mode, 30x Long-Range Motion Snapshot, 4K 120 fps Pro AF Tracking Video, 4K 240 fps high-frame-rate video and 3° gimbal-grade OIS. These are feature descriptions from vivo, not independent assessments of sharpness, autofocus reliability, stabilization smoothness or usable image quality in low light.

Samsung’s two dedicated telephotos
Samsung lists a 200 MP wide autofocus camera, 50 MP ultrawide autofocus camera, 10 MP 3x telephoto autofocus camera and 50 MP 5x telephoto autofocus camera. Two native telephoto positions can reduce the need to crop between common portrait, event and travel framing distances. However, megapixel count and focal-length labels do not predict dynamic range, color consistency, shutter behavior or night performance without controlled testing.
Match the camera layout to your subject
| Your priority | Specification-led fit | What remains unknown |
|---|---|---|
| Birds, distant wildlife or stage subjects | vivo’s 200 MP telephoto and optional 400 mm-equivalent extender offer the more extreme stated reach. | Whether the extender is available, how quickly it focuses, and how image quality compares in real use. |
| Portraits and everyday zoom steps | Samsung provides separate 3x and 5x telephoto cameras; vivo states a 3.5x optical telephoto. | Which phone renders skin, motion and low-light scenes more naturally. |
| Ultrawide landscapes or architecture | Both list 50 MP ultrawide cameras; Samsung specifies autofocus on its ultrawide. | Corner detail, distortion correction and autofocus behavior in practice. |
| Fast-moving subjects | vivo advertises up to 60 fps subject tracking and dedicated high-frame-rate modes. | Tracking hit rate, rolling-shutter control and final video quality under different lighting. |
The optional vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extender
vivo identifies the compatible accessory as the 400 mm-equivalent vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2 Ultra. It is relevant for photographers who need a much narrower field of view than a normal phone telephoto can provide. Because the accessory changes the size, balance and handling of the phone, treat it as part of a camera kit rather than an invisible specification upgrade.
Check four details before building your decision around it: local stock, local price, the required mounting hardware or case, and whether your preferred retailer or service center will support the combination. The launch material does not establish that the extender is included with any X500 Pro Max configuration, nor does it publish a universal price.
Video and motion capture
For video creators, vivo’s announced modes are unusually specific: 4K at 120 frames per second with Pro AF Tracking Video, 4K at 240 frames per second for high-frame-rate capture, 30x Long-Range Motion Snapshot, and 3° gimbal-grade OIS. The announcement also says Snapshot Mode can track subjects at up to 60 frames per second. Those numbers describe recording modes and stabilization design; they do not tell you the bitrate, crop, codec, heat limits, storage consumption or audio quality.
The cited Samsung announcement emphasizes Galaxy AI and the camera hardware but does not provide an equivalent list of high-frame-rate recording modes. If video is central to your work, compare the exact regional camera app, supported resolutions, frame rates, external-microphone options and heat behavior rather than inferring parity or superiority from the still-camera megapixel figures.
Battery and charging
vivo’s stated capacities and charging rates
vivo lists a single-cell battery with an 8,000 mAh typical capacity and a 7,800 mAh rated capacity. It supports up to 90 W wired and 40 W wireless FlashCharge. vivo cautions that actual charging power varies with conditions and safety controls, so “90 W” is a maximum output specification, not a guaranteed sustained rate or a promise of a particular time to full.

Samsung’s published information
The cited Samsung launch announcement does not state the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s battery capacity or charging wattage. That omission means you cannot responsibly declare the Vivo a battery-life winner from capacity alone. Screen brightness, modem use, camera recording, games, temperature, software and network quality all affect endurance, and no independent battery test is established here.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If charging speed or endurance is decisive, ask for the local Samsung specification sheet and look for controlled tests of the exact regional models. Compare charger compatibility and the cost of an appropriate charger as well as the phone’s headline wattage.
Performance, memory and storage
The Vivo page names a MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro processor and 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM, with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage options. Those are useful capacity choices for large photo and video libraries, but they do not establish benchmark scores, sustained gaming performance, thermal behavior or battery efficiency.
Samsung’s cited announcement confirms 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage options but does not state the processor or RAM in the supplied material. Do not fill that gap with assumptions based on another Galaxy generation or region. Confirm the exact local model before comparing gaming, emulation, AI processing or professional-app performance.

Samsung’s feature set
Samsung highlights a built-in Privacy Display and Galaxy AI features including Now Nudge, Now Brief and Circle to Search. The announcement also mentions integration options with Gemini and Perplexity. Samsung says feature availability can depend on setup or context, so check your country, language, account, app and software-version requirements. A corporate statement attributed to TM Roh says: “We believe AI should be something people can depend on every day, it should be designed to work consistently for everyone, without the need for expertise.” That is Samsung’s stated viewpoint, not independent evidence that the features are more useful or dependable than Vivo’s software.

What the Vivo material establishes
The cited Vivo material concentrates on imaging modes and hardware. It does not provide a comparable, complete list of AI services, update duration, regional app support or privacy controls. If long-term software support, desktop integration, watch or tablet compatibility, or a particular assistant matters to you, evaluate the ecosystem available in your country rather than assuming the China specification page represents every market.
Best Value
- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
Privacy Display is a practical differentiator
Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display is designed for situations such as public transport, offices or cafés where you want to limit side-angle visibility. The announcement does not quantify its viewing-angle reduction or describe every supported mode. Test it in person if confidential messages or documents are a major reason to buy the S26 Ultra.
Warranty, network and regional software checks
A phone imported from a different market can be technically impressive and still be a poor purchase. Before paying, verify:
- Radio bands: match the model number to your carrier’s 4G, 5G, VoLTE and emergency-service requirements.
- SIM and eSIM behavior: confirm the number and type of SIMs, and whether eSIM is enabled in your region.
- Firmware: check update channels, bootloader restrictions, language choices and Google or local app availability.
- Payments and services: confirm that banking, contactless payments, streaming and authentication apps work on the intended regional software.
- Warranty: ask whether repairs and parts are covered locally or only in the market of purchase.
- Accessory support: verify that the Vivo extender, case and mount are designed for your exact phone variant.
These checks are especially important for the X500 Pro Max because the cited specification page is China-specific and the launch announcement did not establish broad international retail availability.
Recommended Free Tools
A decision framework by buyer type
Choose Vivo when all of these are true
- You can buy an officially supported local or imported model with acceptable warranty and network compatibility.
- Your photography benefits from an 85 mm-equivalent, 200 MP telephoto or the optional 400 mm-equivalent extender.
- You value a 1–144 Hz display and the stated 8,000 mAh typical battery.
- You need the announced 4K 120 fps Pro AF Tracking Video or 4K 240 fps mode and can confirm those modes exist in your regional firmware.
- You accept that real camera, battery and thermal performance has not been independently established by the cited sources.
Choose Samsung when all of these are true
- You want Samsung’s local sales channel, ecosystem and support options.
- A built-in Privacy Display and Galaxy AI tools are more useful to you than a higher refresh-rate ceiling or larger stated battery.
- You prefer dedicated 3x and 5x telephoto cameras for common framing distances.
- You can afford the local equivalent of the US launch price after taxes and storage adjustments.
- You have confirmed that Galaxy AI, Circle to Search, Now Nudge, Now Brief and any Gemini or Perplexity integration you need work in your language and region.
Wait or compare more phones when these are your deciding factors
- You need proven battery endurance, sustained gaming speed, thermal limits or camera quality from independent tests.
- You require a precise local price and neither manufacturer’s cited figure matches your market.
- You need guaranteed long-term software-update commitments that are not stated in the available product material.
What the available evidence cannot answer
No independent side-by-side test was established for the Vivo X500 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The official pages therefore cannot settle which phone has the better camera, longer battery life, faster sustained performance, lower heat, stronger signal, more accurate display or better value. Megapixel totals, battery capacity and charging wattage are specifications; they are not substitutes for controlled measurements.
Use the numbers to narrow the shortlist, then verify the exact regional models and seek hands-on or independent testing for the claim that matters most to you. Keep the market attached to every price: Vivo’s figures are China suggested prices, and Samsung’s USD 1,299.99 is a US launch starting price.
Bottom line
The vivo X500 Pro Max is the specification-led choice for a buyer who can obtain it with proper local support and wants maximum stated telephoto flexibility, a 1–144 Hz screen, a large 8,000 mAh typical battery and specialist video modes. The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is the safer fit for buyers who prioritize Samsung’s ecosystem, a built-in Privacy Display, two dedicated telephoto focal lengths and Galaxy AI features.
Neither is a defensible universal winner from the supplied evidence. Make the final choice only after checking local price, stock, carrier compatibility, warranty, software availability and—if photography or battery life is central—independent testing of the exact versions you can buy.
