Which phone is newer and when the X500 series launched
Vivo announced the X500 series in Shanghai on September 21, 2026. The X500 and X500 Pro Max were scheduled to go on sale on September 24, 2026. That schedule describes China, and TechRadar’s launch coverage describes the series as China-exclusive at launch, with a wider rollout expected but the phone unlikely to reach the US. Readers outside China should treat the launch date as a starting point and check current regional availability before deciding.

Main camera: why 24mm and 35mm change the photos you take
The X300 Ultra’s main camera is listed at 35mm equivalent and the X500 Pro Max’s at 24mm equivalent, according to TechRadar’s launch observations. A 35mm equivalent lens crops in closer than a 24mm one, so it suits portraits and tighter subjects, while 24mm fits more of a room, a street or a landscape into a single frame. Which framing is better depends on how you shoot. No controlled side-by-side test established a winner.
Vivo says the X500 Pro Max uses a BlueImage Guangyu 900 sensor with a stated dynamic range of 17EV and read noise as low as 0.75e-. These are Vivo’s own figures, not independent measurements. At the launch event, Vivo vice president and product vice president Huang Tao described the goal for the series as follows: “X500系列的专业上限要足够高,高到足以成为创作者的生产力工具;大众体验门槛要足够低,低到普通人随手就能拍出电影感”. An English translation, not Vivo’s official English wording, reads: “The professional ceiling of the X500 series must be high enough to serve as a productivity tool for creators; the experience threshold for the general public must be low enough that ordinary people can casually shoot with a cinematic feel.”

Telephoto, teleconverter and video
Telephoto and the G2 Ultra teleconverter
Vivo says the X500 Pro Max uses the same 200MP APO super telephoto model as the X300 Ultra, so the difference is in the accessories and claimed features rather than the sensor. Vivo also lists support for its G2 Ultra teleconverter, which it says gives an equivalent 400mm focal length, and it claims tracking-based motion capture of up to 30x. These are manufacturer claims. TechRadar’s photographer kit photos show two teleconverter lenses, a grip and extra cases, but the contents of any sold package, and whether the teleconverter is sold separately, should be confirmed in your market.
Video
Vivo lists native 4K at 240fps for slow motion and native 8K Live recording for the X500 Pro Max, and its launch material also highlights professional Log recording. The sources used here do not state the X300 Ultra’s video specifications, so video buyers should compare the two phones’ official spec pages side by side rather than relying on a summary.

Battery and display
The X500 Pro Max’s 8,000mAh battery is Vivo’s stated capacity. PhoneArena’s comparison database lists the X300 Ultra at 6,600mAh. The larger number suggests more capacity, but it does not measure endurance. Brightness, screen quality and battery runtime were not compared in independent tests for this article, so the screens should be judged on your own use.
Chip platform
The X500 Pro Max uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro, which Vivo describes as its first 2nm flagship platform. The X300 Ultra is listed by PhoneArena with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The two are different vendors and platform generations, but sustained-performance or benchmark results for the pair were not established in the sources used here, so the chip difference cannot be treated as a performance winner.

Price difference: what can and cannot be stated
The confirmed starting prices are China launch prices announced by Vivo: CNY 5,499 for the X500 and CNY 6,999 for the X500 Pro Max. These are not live retail offers or international list prices. PhoneArena’s comparison page displays a euro price for each model, but it does not give enough regional, tax or storage context to calculate a dependable gap, and this article does not use it. A current price difference should be calculated only when all of the following match:
- The same market and currency for both phones
- The same storage and memory configuration
- The same retailer or official store, with tax and shipping treatment stated
- The same date, recorded at the time of comparison
Availability and buying checks
- Confirm the market. Check Vivo’s regional pages for the X500 Pro Max. At launch it was China-exclusive according to TechRadar.
- Read the warranty and return terms in writing. For imported units, ask the seller whether the warranty is honored by Vivo in your country.
- Check carrier bands. Compare the phone’s supported network bands with your carrier’s bands before buying.
- Check software language and region. Confirm the system language, regional software build and included apps.
- Confirm services. Check which app stores and cloud or support services work in your market.
- Confirm the package. If you want the teleconverter or photographer kit, verify the included items and whether the teleconverter is sold separately in your region.
The Bottom Line
Choose the X500 Pro Max if you want the wider main camera, the larger nominal battery, the newer chip platform and teleconverter support, and you can buy it legally and with local warranty support. Choose the X300 Ultra if the tighter 35mm main framing suits your photography, or if you need a verified price in your market that the X500 Pro Max cannot yet provide. Until a same-market, same-configuration price check is done, there is no verified price gap to act on.
