Short answer: vivo’s Vision Discovery Edition is much lighter on paper at 398g, while Apple’s current M5 Vision Pro is specified at 750–800g for the headset with its Light Seal and Dual Knit Band, plus a separate 353g battery. Apple publishes more complete information about display pixels, refresh rates, software, input and battery life. vivo advertises binocular 8K Micro-OLED displays, eye tracking and gesture control, but its launch material does not establish a retail price, general-sale date or comparable runtime. Neither company’s published figures constitute a controlled comfort test, so the specifications identify trade-offs rather than a universal comfort winner.
What is being compared?
This is a comparison of Apple Vision Pro with the M5 chip and vivo’s Vision Discovery Edition. The products are not at the same commercial stage in the cited announcements: vivo unveiled its headset at a 30th-anniversary event in Dongguan on August 21, 2025, describing it as a mixed-reality exploration edition. Apple’s October 15, 2025 announcement covers an upgraded M5 model, the Dual Knit Band, visionOS 26 and new spatial software and content.

That distinction matters when interpreting price, availability and specifications. Apple provides a current technical-specification page and a purchase pathway, although the retrieved store content does not show a price. The official vivo launch coverage establishes the product and its stated features, but not a retail price or a date for general sale.

Display and visual capabilities
What vivo claims
vivo describes the Vision Discovery Edition as using dual-eye 8K Micro-OLED displays. “Dual-eye” indicates that the claim concerns binocular viewing rather than a single panel viewed by both eyes. The launch coverage does not state the per-eye pixel count, field of view, brightness, contrast, optical stack, refresh rate or practical resolution after lenses and image processing.
vivo also characterizes its eye tracking as having 1.5-degree precision. That is a manufacturer description of tracking performance, not an independent measurement. It can help explain the intended interaction model, but it does not by itself establish how quickly selections are made, how often the system mis-targets an item or how well tracking works for every user.
What Apple specifies
Apple lists a 23-million-pixel Micro-OLED display system for the M5 Vision Pro. It supports 90Hz, 96Hz, 100Hz and 120Hz refresh rates. The higher options can be relevant to motion clarity and interface responsiveness, but supported refresh rates are not the same as a guarantee that every application or video mode runs at 120Hz.
Apple’s M5 announcement also describes improvements to performance and display rendering. The technical specification identifies the M5 and R1 chips, but it does not turn the pixel count into a direct comparison with vivo’s 8K wording. Panel count, per-eye allocation, optics, software rendering and viewing conditions all affect what a wearer actually sees.
How to read the two claims fairly
- Do not convert vivo’s “binocular 8K” into a guaranteed per-eye resolution unless vivo publishes that breakdown.
- Do not treat Apple’s 23 million pixels as proof of superior image quality without matching information about optics, field of view and rendering.
- Use Apple’s refresh-rate figures as a documented capability, not as a statement that all content uses the maximum rate.
- There is no controlled visual-quality test in the cited material, so a winner cannot be declared from these headline numbers.
Software, tracking and everyday interaction
vivo: OriginOS Vision and mixed-reality exploration
The Vision Discovery Edition runs OriginOS Vision. vivo presents the headset as an exploration platform and highlights eye tracking and hand gestures. The published description gives no complete application catalog, developer tools, supported phone or PC platforms, file formats, regional services or long-term software-update policy.

That makes the product’s software proposition difficult to score against Apple’s ecosystem using specifications alone. A buyer would need a current regional demonstration or retail listing to confirm which applications are available and whether the headset can perform the particular tasks they have in mind.
Apple: visionOS, M5/R1 processing and three input channels
Apple lists visionOS and identifies hands, eyes and voice as input methods. The M5 handles general processing while the R1 chip is part of the headset’s sensor and real-time experience architecture. Apple’s 2025 announcement also points to visionOS 26, spatial apps and Apple Immersive content.
Those details establish a more fully documented software platform, not that every user will prefer it. The important practical questions are whether the applications you need exist, whether they run in your region, how much local storage they require and whether your other devices fit the workflow. The cited sources do not provide a complete cross-platform compatibility matrix for the two headsets.
Weight and comfort: what the numbers do and do not prove
The published weights
vivo reports 398g for the Vision Discovery Edition. The cited launch material does not provide a matching configuration breakdown showing exactly which strap, light shield, foam parts, cable or other accessories are included.
Apple lists 750–800g for the M5 Vision Pro with its Light Seal and counterbalanced Dual Knit Band. The range varies by configuration. Apple lists the separate battery at 353g. If you simply add the published figures, the headset and battery total 1,103–1,153g of hardware; that arithmetic is not a measurement of the load on your face because the battery is separate and connected by a cable.

Apple support material for an earlier model or configuration lists 600–650g. That figure should not be substituted for the current M5 specification. The comparison here uses the M5 generation’s 750–800g figure.

vivo describes several light-shield and foam combinations plus a dual-loop strap. These options suggest an attempt to accommodate different face shapes and pressure points, but the announcement does not explain how each combination changes weight distribution or which sizes will be sold.
Apple’s M5 package includes a Light Seal and Dual Knit Band. Apple calls the band comfortable in its product announcement. That is a product claim, not a comparative test against vivo or a guarantee for a particular face.
Why a lighter specification is not a complete comfort verdict
No cited source supplies a standardized side-by-side fit test, sustained-wear study, pressure map or independent comfort result. Comfort depends on facial anatomy, eye position, strap adjustment, hair and glasses, seal pressure, session length and whether the device’s center of gravity pulls forward. A 398g headset can still feel uncomfortable if its balance or seal is wrong; a heavier headset can suit one wearer better if its support spreads pressure effectively.
The fairest conclusion from the evidence is narrower: vivo has a substantially lower stated headset weight, while Apple publishes more detail about what its weight includes. The figures indicate a likely portability advantage for vivo, but they do not establish which device is more comfortable for all users.

Battery life and power arrangements
Apple’s stated runtime
Apple rates the M5 Vision Pro for up to 2.5 hours of general use or up to 3 hours of video playback. These are maximum-use figures under Apple’s stated testing conditions, not a promise that every application will last that long. High-performance mixed-reality software, tracking, wireless networking and display brightness can change actual endurance.
Apple also says the headset can be used while charging. That can extend a stationary session, but it does not make the separate 353g battery disappear from the setup or turn the headset into an untethered, all-day device.
What is unknown for vivo
The cited vivo launch coverage does not state a comparable runtime, battery capacity, charging time, replaceable-battery policy or whether the headset can operate while charging. Without those figures, it is not possible to call vivo a battery-life winner or to estimate how long a mixed-reality session will last.
Questions to ask before buying either device
- Is the quoted runtime for the exact software mode you will use?
- Can the battery be replaced or carried as a spare?
- Does charging preserve full performance or impose a lower-power mode?
- Where is the battery worn, and how long is the cable?
- What happens when the battery reaches its limit during a work or travel session?
Prescription vision and fit compatibility
Apple’s store information lists ZEISS Optical Inserts. Because accessory compatibility can vary by Vision Pro generation, prescription type and country, confirm the current listing and ordering process for the M5 model before purchase.

Price and availability: why there is no reliable winner yet
vivo’s position
The official vivo material reviewed establishes the August 21, 2025 unveiling and the exploration-edition framing. It does not state a retail price or a general-sale date. A launch announcement therefore cannot support a current “vivo costs less” claim, an estimated local price or a recommendation to place an order.
Apple’s position
Apple provides a purchase pathway for the M5 Vision Pro, but the retrieved store page content used for this comparison does not show a price. Vision Pro pricing can also vary with region, storage, fit configuration, taxes and optical accessories. A publication-ready number requires checking the Apple store for the reader’s country at the time of purchase.
How to compare prices when both listings are available
- Record the exact model and country or region.
- Include the required Light Seal, strap, battery and any prescription inserts in the Apple total.
- For vivo, confirm that the listing is for the Vision Discovery Edition rather than a concept announcement or unrelated device.
- Check whether tax, shipping, warranty and returns are included.
- Compare the same storage and accessory configuration, and note whether a price is promotional or recurring.
Until vivo publishes a sale price and Apple’s regional store price is checked directly, the evidence supports no current price ranking.

Choose vivo only when the announcement becomes a real, supported purchase
The Vision Discovery Edition is the more interesting candidate for someone who places a very high value on the published 398g weight and is willing to wait for confirmed retail details. Before paying, verify the final configuration, software availability, prescription support, battery behavior, warranty coverage and regional service.
Choose Apple when documented capabilities and an available ecosystem matter most
The M5 Vision Pro is the better-documented option for readers who need published display modes, a named operating system, defined input methods, stated battery estimates and an established purchase path. Its physical weight and separate battery are substantial considerations, especially for long sessions.
Wait when price, runtime or comfort is the deciding factor
Waiting is rational if your decision depends on a vivo price, a general-sale date, comparable battery testing or an independent comfort evaluation. Those are precisely the areas the cited announcements do not settle.
How to evaluate comfort before committing
Because no standardized comparison is available, use a repeatable in-person check if a demonstration unit can be tried:
- Wear the headset with the intended Light Seal, foam or strap configuration, and with the glasses or prescription inserts you would actually use.
- Adjust the strap until the image is clear without tightening the seal aggressively. Note pressure on the forehead, cheeks, nose and back of the head separately.
- Look down, look up and turn your head normally. Watch for sliding, light leaks, cable pull or a front-heavy sensation.
- Use the device for at least 20–30 minutes, including reading and a moving mixed-reality scene. Record when discomfort begins rather than judging only the first minute.
- Repeat the test after removing and refitting the headset. A fit that works only after an unusually precise adjustment may be difficult to maintain.
- Ask which parts are included in the quoted weight and whether the demonstration unit matches the retail configuration.
This process does not create a scientific comfort study, but it prevents a headline weight number from standing in for your own fit.
Quick Recap
Important limitations in the comparison
- The two display claims use different definitions: vivo reports binocular 8K, while Apple reports total display-system pixels.
- vivo’s cited launch coverage does not state refresh rate, processor, battery runtime, prescription support or retail pricing.
- Apple’s 750–800g figure is for the M5 headset with Light Seal and Dual Knit Band and excludes the 353g battery.
- Apple’s 600–650g figure from earlier support material belongs to an earlier model or configuration and is not the M5 figure used here.
- No independent, controlled comfort comparison or complete cross-platform compatibility study is established.
- Regional prices, taxes, accessories and availability can change; the cited store content does not provide a current Apple price.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
