The vivo V40 is the larger-screen phone with the lower original price, launched in India in August 2024. The vivo X300 FE is the newer, more compact model with a higher-tier chipset, a larger listed battery, a 90W wired charging rating and an optional telephoto extender, launched in May 2026 at a higher price tier. The gap between their launch prices is real on paper, but it compares two launch dates almost two years apart, so it is not a current price difference. This comparison uses published India specifications and launch pricing. Neither phone was tested for performance, battery life, camera quality or durability.
Price difference: what the launch numbers show and what they do not
vivo announced the V40 on August 7, 2024, with sales starting August 19, 2024. It announced the X300 FE on May 6, 2026, with availability from May 14, 2026. Because the two phones were priced in different years, the table below shows each launch price on its own terms. It does not show what either phone costs at a retailer today.

The only configuration with a launch price for both phones is 12GB+512GB. At that storage level, the launch prices were ₹41,999 for the V40 and ₹89,999 for the X300 FE, a ₹47,999 difference in list price. That figure reflects two product generations and two launch dates. It is not a market gap, and it should not be read as what a buyer would save today.

Display and size
The V40 is the large-screen phone. Its 6.78-inch panel is 0.47 inches larger than the X300 FE’s 6.31-inch panel. The V40 is also about 13mm taller and about 3mm wider. The X300 FE is slightly thicker, at 7.99mm against 7.58mm, yet weighs 191g to the V40’s 190g. Both use AMOLED panels with a 120Hz refresh rate, so the screen-size difference is the main ergonomic distinction.
Processor, battery and charging
The X300 FE lists a newer, higher-tier chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is a 3nm octa-core processor, while the V40 uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The X300 FE also lists a larger battery, 6500mAh typical against the V40’s 5500mAh typical, and a higher wired charging ceiling, 90W against 80W.

These are manufacturer specifications. The battery figures are capacities, not measured endurance, and the charging figures are maximum ratings under stated conditions, not charging times. vivo gives the X300 FE both a typical (6500mAh) and a rated (6350mAh) capacity. Use the vivo India specification page to check how the company defines each figure.
Cameras and the telephoto extender
vivo V40 camera system
vivo positions the V40 around ZEISS co-engineered imaging and portrait photography. Its summary specifications do not list the module breakdown, so confirm the exact lens configuration on vivo India’s V40 parameter page before comparing hardware. Megapixel counts alone do not indicate image quality.

vivo X300 FE camera system
The X300 FE lists a 50MP OIS main camera, a 50MP OIS telephoto camera, an 8MP wide-angle camera and a 50MP autofocus front camera. vivo’s launch release describes up to 100x digital zoom. Its telephoto lens is the most distinctive difference between the two models.
ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2
The X300 FE is compatible with a separately sold ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2, announced at ₹15,999. vivo describes it as delivering 200mm equivalent reach and says it works in photo, video and stage modes. Those are manufacturer claims, and no independent accessory test is available. The extender is not compatible with the V40, so it adds to the X300 FE’s cost only if you plan to buy it.

Durability, software and support
Both phones carry an IP68 dust and water rating. The X300 FE’s listing also includes IP69 under vivo’s stated laboratory conditions. Those ratings describe lab tests and do not guarantee protection in every situation.

Which phone fits which buyer
vivo describes the X300 FE as a compact flagship. Vikas Tagra, Head of Product Management – X Series, vivo India, said in the May 6, 2026 launch release: “The strong response to our compact flagship portfolio has reaffirmed that consumers today are looking for smartphones that combine premium performance and a form factor that fits seamlessly into their lifestyles.”
The V40 suits you if
- You want the larger 6.78-inch screen and the largest display difference of the pair.
- Your budget is closer to the V40’s original price tier, and you confirm that today’s price still fits.
- You do not need a telephoto lens or the extra charging headroom.
The X300 FE suits you if
- You prefer a shorter, narrower phone with a 6.31-inch screen.
- You want the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform and the larger listed battery.
- You want a telephoto camera, and you are willing to buy the ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2 separately if you want its extra reach.
- You accept a higher price tier and confirm that the current listing is worth it.
How to check today’s price before you compare
- Compare the same storage. The two configurations both phones offer are 8GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB.
- Check both phones at the same retailer on the same day, and record the date.
- Record the list price, sale price and any bank or exchange offer as separate figures.
- Confirm the seller and stock. Both launch releases name Amazon among sales channels, but this comparison did not verify a live Amazon listing for either phone.
- Confirm the warranty and return terms for the exact variant you plan to buy.
If the price difference at equal storage is smaller than the launch gap, the newer phone may be the better value for your budget. If it is larger, the V40 may remain the simpler choice.
