What is the price difference between the vivo V40 and V50?
For the 12 GB/512 GB configuration, both official India store pages showed ₹48,999 when observed on October 7, 2026. The V40 store page also showed ₹39,999 for 8 GB/128 GB. The retrieved V50 listing showed a price only for 12 GB/512 GB, so it is not possible to compare the two phones’ prices across that lower storage tier from these listings.

Battery and charging: the V50 has higher listed figures
vivo lists a typical 6,000 mAh battery and 90 W charging for the V50, compared with 5,500 mAh and 80 W for the V40. That gives the V50 a 500 mAh higher rated capacity and a 10 W higher stated charging maximum. These specifications do not establish how long either phone lasts in a particular person’s use or how quickly it charges in every situation; vivo notes charging power varies with conditions and charger or cable.

Software and performance
Both India specification pages list the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The V40 is listed with Android 14 and Funtouch OS 14; the V50 with Android 15 and Funtouch OS 15. The version difference favors the V50 on the software listed at those pages, but the sources do not establish how many years of operating-system or security updates either model will receive.
Camera hardware: similar rear-camera resolutions, no proven image-quality winner
Both phones list a 50 MP OIS main camera and a 50 MP autofocus ultra-wide camera. vivo’s V40 product page promotes ZEISS co-engineered imaging and portrait features, and its specification page identifies a ZEISS-branded ultra-wide camera and 50 MP ZEISS autofocus front camera with a listed 92° field of view. The V50 specification excerpt lists a 50 MP autofocus front camera but does not state the same field-of-view figure. Megapixel counts and feature labels alone are not a reliable basis for declaring either phone’s photos better.

Water and dust protection: understand the ratings
vivo lists IP68 for the V40 and IP68/IP69 for the V50. For the V40, vivo describes an IP68 test involving static freshwater at up to 1.5 m for up to 30 minutes under controlled conditions. That is a test classification, not a guarantee that a phone is safe in every water exposure or will retain its resistance indefinitely. vivo warns on its V40 product page: “The resistance to splashes, water and dust is not permanent and may be reduced due to daily use.”

Read the V40 product-page cautions alongside the V40 and V50 specifications. The V50’s extra listed IP rating is a specification difference, not a promise of damage-proof use.
Which should you choose?
Choose the V50 if its listed changes matter to you
- You want the larger rated battery and higher stated charging maximum.
- You prefer the newer Android and Funtouch OS versions listed on vivo’s India page.
- You value the additional IP69 rating listed alongside IP68.
Consider the V40 if you find the right configuration or price
- You are comparing the V40’s listed 8 GB/128 GB option at ₹39,999 with the V50’s retrieved 12 GB/512 GB listing; treat this as a configuration difference, not a like-for-like price comparison.
- The V40’s listed camera details, including ZEISS branding and a stated 92° front-camera field of view, fit your priorities.
