In India, the vivo V40 is the stronger listing on paper: it has a higher-resolution display, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 12GB/512GB option, and an explicit IP68 dust and water resistance claim. The vivo V40e costs less at every storage level vivo lists in the India Store pages we reviewed, and it matches the V40 on battery capacity and charging speed. The gap between them is a specs-versus-price trade-off, not a choice between a good phone and a bad one.

Chipset and performance
The V40 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and the V40e on a MediaTek Dimensity 7300. vivo lists both as 4nm-class processors. A chip name and process node do not tell you how either phone performs in games, multitasking or heat management. No independent benchmark comparison is established for these two models here, so treat any claim of one phone being faster as unverified.

Display
Both phones use a curved AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and similar diagonal sizes of 6.78 inches (V40) and 6.77 inches (V40e). The difference is resolution. The V40’s 2800×1260 panel has more pixels than the V40e’s 2392×1080 panel, which should make text and fine detail sharper on the V40, most noticeably on a large screen. Whether that difference is visible in daily use depends on viewing distance and personal sensitivity.
Cameras
Rear cameras
The V40 has two 50MP ZEISS-branded rear cameras: a main sensor with autofocus and OIS, and an ultrawide with autofocus. The V40e pairs a 50MP Sony IMX882 main sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide. Both phones therefore have a stabilised main camera, but the V40’s ultrawide is six times the resolution of the V40e’s. If you shoot a lot of wide landscapes or group shots, that is the most practical camera difference between the two.

Front camera
Both list a 50MP autofocus selfie camera. vivo describes the V40e’s front camera as wide-angle, so the framing range may differ even though the resolution matches.
Battery and charging
Both phones list a 5500mAh typical battery capacity and 80W wired charging. vivo’s figures are capacity ratings and charging specifications, not measured endurance results. Actual battery life depends on screen use, network conditions and settings, and neither the V40 nor the V40e has a battery-life comparison in the sources reviewed.

Water and dust protection
vivo’s V40 product overview states IP68 dust and water resistance, and the claim is tied to fresh water in vivo’s wording. The V40e overview does not state an equivalent rating. Do not assume the V40e has the same protection. If water resistance matters to you, check the V40e’s full specification page or the packaging before buying.
Price difference in India
The clearest price comparison is at matching memory and storage. vivo India Store pages captured in 2026 showed the following listed prices. The selected product pages were marked unavailable at capture, so these are dated listed prices, not confirmed checkout prices or stock status.

Which one should you buy?
- Choose the V40 if the sharper display, the 50MP ultrawide, the 12GB/512GB option, or the IP68 claim matters to you, and the roughly ₹6,000 extra at 8GB/128GB is acceptable.
- Choose the V40e if you want the lower listed price and are content with a 2392×1080 display, an 8MP ultrawide and no stated IP68 rating. You still get a 120Hz AMOLED screen, a 5500mAh battery, 80W charging, an OIS main camera and a 50MP selfie camera.
- Before buying either, confirm the current price and stock at the vivo India Store or your preferred retailer, and check whether the storage option you want is available in your region.
The V40 series launched in India on August 7, 2024, and vivo’s slimness marketing for these phones rests on its own internal research dated July 15, 2024 (V40) and August 27, 2024 (V40e). Treat those statements as manufacturer claims rather than independent comparisons.
