For that money, the Pro’s documented extras are a dedicated 2x optical telephoto portrait camera and a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ chipset in place of the V40’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The display, battery, charging rating, front camera and main and ultra-wide rear cameras are listed as identical on both phones.
Specifications side by side

What the V40 Pro adds
Only two hardware differences separate the phones on the official listings: the camera array and the processor. Everything else in the table is shared, so the decision rests on these two items.
The telephoto portrait camera
The V40 Pro has a third rear camera: a 50MP autofocus ZEISS telephoto portrait lens with 2x optical zoom and up to 50x digital zoom. The standard V40 stops at a main and an ultra-wide lens. If you regularly shoot portraits, closer subjects or tighter framing without stepping in, this is the one hardware feature the Pro clearly offers that the V40 does not. Whether its image quality is better in practice is not something the specification sheets can answer.

The chipset change
The V40 Pro uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+, while the V40 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The listings establish the change in silicon, not the speed difference it produces. Real-world gaming, multitasking, heat behaviour and battery life depend on software tuning and workload, and no independent measurements are cited here, so this article does not rank the two processors on performance.
Shared specifications
Both phones list the same display, battery and charging hardware, which means these are not reasons to choose one over the other:

- Display: 6.78-inch AMOLED, 2800 × 1260 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate.
- Battery: 5500mAh typical capacity.
- Charging: up to 80W. vivo’s specification notes that the actual charging power is dynamically adjusted as the battery level changes and is subject to actual use.
- Cameras shared by both: 50MP OIS main, 50MP autofocus ZEISS ultra-wide, and a 50MP autofocus front camera.
- Software: Funtouch OS 14 on Android 14, as listed on both models’ official pages.
- Durability: IP68 dust and water resistance, per the official product overview of each phone.
vivo’s official V40 Pro page also says the V40 and V40 Pro are the slimmest phones in the 5500mAh battery category, “according to internal research as of July 15, 2024.” This is vivo’s own claim and has not been independently verified.
The price difference
On vivo India’s online store, the 12GB+512GB configuration of the V40 was listed at ₹48,999 and the same storage and RAM combination of the V40 Pro at ₹60,999, a gap of ₹12,000. The V40 is therefore the cheaper of the two at that tier. Two limits apply to this figure:

- It is a snapshot of vivo India’s store listings checked in 2026. Listed prices change, and offers, bank discounts and exchange deals are not reflected here.
- The gap applies only to the 12GB+512GB configuration. The two phones do not share a lower tier: the V40 also has 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB options, while the Pro starts at 8GB+256GB, so comparing at 8GB+256GB would be a different calculation that this article does not make.
Because the phones are otherwise specified alike, the ₹12,000 buys the telephoto camera and the Dimensity 9200+ chipset, and nothing else on the official listings.
Which one fits your situation
Choose the V40 if the Pro’s extra camera does not change how you shoot, and the ₹12,000 is better spent elsewhere. Its display, battery, charging, main and ultra-wide cameras and durability rating match the Pro’s on paper.
Rank #4

Choose the V40 Pro if you want the 2x optical telephoto portrait lens and the Dimensity 9200+ chipset, and you are comfortable paying ₹12,000 more for them. Those are the only two specification-level reasons to pay the premium.

What this comparison does not establish
This comparison is based on published specifications and India store pricing. It does not include independent camera samples, battery endurance, thermal testing, gaming benchmarks or review consensus, so it cannot say whether the Pro’s photos or performance are worth the premium in daily use. It also does not cover stock availability, marketplace seller reputation or prices outside India.
