The right comparison is not “V-series versus every midrange phone.” It is the exact vivo model and regional SKU you can buy, against two or three phones at the same local price. Check camera hardware and samples, battery tests rather than capacity alone, display and handling, sustained performance, durability, software-support terms, network compatibility, and the complete delivered price. The V40, V60 and V70 show why: their processors, operating systems, cameras, batteries, displays and protection ratings differ substantially.
Why the V-series name is not enough
“V-series” is a family label, not a single specification package. A V40, V60 and V70 can differ in chipset generation, Android or OriginOS version, camera layout, screen dimensions, storage technology and update policy. Even one model can have different colors, bands, SIM arrangements, software and bundled accessories by country. Start with the model number, memory tier and country code printed on the retailer listing or phone box.

The global specification pages are useful starting points, but they do not establish your local price, stock status or a cross-brand winner. Use vivo’s V40 specifications, V60 specifications and V70 specifications to identify the hardware, then confirm the country page and the exact SKU before paying.

Define the comparison before looking at specifications
Set a delivered-price ceiling
Write down the maximum amount you will pay after tax, shipping, retailer fees and any required charger. Record storage capacity, warranty length, launch or trade-in promotion and whether the offer is sold by an authorized local channel. A phone that is nominally cheaper can lose its advantage when it needs a separately purchased charger or has a shorter warranty.

Choose your primary use
Rank one or two priorities: portraits, travel zoom, ultrawide landscapes, video, gaming, long battery life, compact handling, water resistance or long software support. This prevents a large battery or a high megapixel number from distracting you from the feature you actually use.
Choose comparable configurations
Compare the same storage tier and, where possible, similar RAM. Do not compare a discounted 128 GB phone with a full-price 512 GB model and call the price difference a camera or performance advantage. Check whether storage expansion is available and whether the advertised RAM includes virtual memory.
Verified V-series examples
The following figures come from vivo’s global specification pages. They are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent laboratory results, and regional versions can differ.
| Model | Processor and software listed | Battery and charging | Display listed | Camera hardware listed | Other notable details |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| V40 | Snapdragon 7 Gen 3; Android 14 with Funtouch OS 14 | 5,500 mAh typical; 80 W charging | 6.78-inch AMOLED, 2,800 × 1,260, up to 120 Hz | 50 MP front, 50 MP main and 50 MP ultrawide | Global page lists a charger, case and pre-applied protective film in the box; verify local package |
| V60 | Snapdragon 7 Gen 4; Android 15 with Funtouch OS 15 | 6,500 mAh typical; 90 W charging | 6.77-inch AMOLED; resolution not stated in the supplied global listing | Main, telephoto, ultrawide and selfie cameras are listed; megapixel and autofocus details vary by specification entry | Colors, supported bands and SIM details show regional variation |
| V70 | Snapdragon 7 Gen 4; Android 16 with OriginOS 6 | 6,500 mAh typical; 90 W charging | 6.59-inch AMOLED, 2,750 × 1,260, up to 120 Hz | Main, telephoto, ultrawide and selfie cameras are listed | 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM, 256 GB UFS 4.1 storage; no expandable ROM listed; IP68/IP69 |
These entries are not a controlled ranking. The phones launched at different times, may be sold at different prices and can have different country configurations. A higher model number does not automatically make a better purchase.
Camera: compare roles and results, not megapixels
Map each camera’s job
List the rear camera roles separately: main, ultrawide and telephoto. A telephoto module can provide optical reach for portraits or distant subjects; an ultrawide is useful for architecture and group scenes. A phone with three sensors is not automatically better than one with two if the extra sensor is low quality or the processing is weak. The V40 page lists main and ultrawide rear cameras, while the V70 page lists a telephoto in addition to main and ultrawide hardware. Those pages establish what is fitted, not which phone produces better photographs.

Check focusing and stabilization
Look for autofocus on the main, ultrawide and telephoto cameras, and for optical image stabilization (OIS). These affect close-up focus, moving subjects and low-light sharpness more directly than a headline megapixel count. Confirm whether OIS applies to the camera you intend to use for night scenes or video; do not assume that the main camera’s stabilization covers every lens.
Evaluate samples for your subjects
Use independent reviews that publish full-resolution daylight, night, portrait, ultrawide, zoom and front-camera samples. Inspect skin tones, fine detail, motion blur, lens switching and video stabilization. Check whether reviews tested the same regional firmware and memory tier. Manufacturer specifications cannot supply an independent image-quality ranking, so a camera decision requires evidence from the photos and videos you actually plan to make.
Battery and charging: capacity is only the starting point
vivo lists a 5,500 mAh typical battery and 80 W charging for the V40. The V60 and V70 pages list 6,500 mAh typical capacity and 90 W charging. These are stated specifications, not guarantees of endurance or recharge time. Screen brightness, mobile-signal strength, gaming load, camera use, temperature and background software can overwhelm a capacity advantage.
Separate capacity, charger and protocol
Confirm whether the advertised wattage requires a proprietary charger, whether that charger is included, and which charging standard the phone accepts. A 90 W phone used with a slower adapter will not charge at its headline rate. Check the in-box list for your country rather than relying on a global page. The V40 global listing includes a charger, case and pre-applied film, but the local package must be verified.
Use comparable endurance tests
Prefer reviews that report screen-on time, cellular and Wi-Fi use, video playback, gaming drain and a measured recharge from a stated starting percentage. Keep test conditions comparable between phones. On the V70, vivo notes that actual charging power varies with conditions on its product-information page: V70 product information. Treat the 90 W figure as a manufacturer specification, not a promised time-to-full.

Display and ergonomics must be judged together
Compare screen size, resolution, refresh-rate support, brightness qualification, dimensions and weight as one package. The V40 is listed with a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel at 2,800 × 1,260 and up to 120 Hz. The V70 is listed with a 6.59-inch AMOLED panel at 2,750 × 1,260 and up to 120 Hz. The smaller V70 screen may be easier to grip, while the V40 offers a larger viewing area; neither specification alone determines comfort.
Understand brightness claims
Ask whether a brightness number is typical full-screen brightness, high-brightness mode or a local peak under a defined test pattern. The V70 product information describes peak brightness as a local peak under specified conditions. It should not be read as a promise that the entire display remains at that level outdoors. Independent measurements in sunlight are more useful for navigation and photography.
Check physical handling
Compare thickness, weight, frame shape, curved or flat edges, button placement and the case supplied in the box. A large battery and display can increase weight. Curved glass may look immersive but can create accidental touches or more expensive repairs. Hold the exact phone, or confirm the dimensions and return policy, before choosing based on a screen size difference of a few tenths of an inch.
Performance and storage: identify the exact configuration
Start with the chipset, then verify sustained performance
The V40 global page lists Snapdragon 7 Gen 3; the V60 and V70 list Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. Chipset names indicate a platform generation, not a guaranteed frame rate or thermal behavior. Independent tests should cover sustained CPU and GPU loads, game frame-rate stability, temperature and throttling after 15 to 30 minutes, not only a short benchmark peak.
Check memory and storage technology
The V70 listing specifies 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.1 storage, with no expandable ROM listed. For the V40 and V60, confirm the RAM, storage type, capacity and microSD availability of the local SKU; the global summary does not establish one universal configuration. Faster storage can improve app installation and large-file transfers, but it does not compensate for insufficient capacity. If you record 4K video or keep offline maps, calculate your likely space needs over the phone’s support period.

Test the workload you actually have
For gaming, compare the titles and graphics settings you use, frame pacing and heat after a long session. For productivity, test camera-to-editor transfers, split-screen apps and sustained browser tabs. Avoid treating a single synthetic score as a cross-brand verdict.
Durability, repair and connectivity can decide value
Read the protection rating correctly
The V70 global specification page lists IP68/IP69. Confirm that the exact regional model carries the same rating and read the warranty exclusions for liquid, impact and corrosion damage. The supplied material does not establish equivalent ratings for the V40 or V60, so mark those cells as unconfirmed until the country page or manual provides them.
Check repair access and warranty terms
Compare the length and geographic coverage of the warranty, authorized repair locations, screen and battery replacement availability, turnaround time and whether opening the phone affects coverage. A durable rating is less valuable if a cracked display is difficult or expensive to replace. Ask the seller for written terms rather than relying on a marketplace summary.
Verify networks and local features
Check supported 4G and 5G bands against your carrier, dual-SIM behavior, eSIM support, NFC, Wi-Fi version, Bluetooth codecs and whether call recording or other software features are enabled in your country. The V60 page explicitly shows regional differences in bands and SIM details; treat every model’s global page as a reference, not a guarantee for your network.
Software support needs a country-specific reading
The V70 product page states “Up to 4 OS generations and 6 years of security updates.” That headline applies to the V70 statement and must be read with its footnote: Europe receives five OS generations and five years of security patches, with the period calculated from when the product ceases to be sold in the European Union. Outside Europe, the six-year period is calculated from launch in the country or region where the phone is bought. See the complete V70 product information page before treating the term as a benefit.

Do not generalize the V70 policy to every V-series phone. For any V40 or V60 offer, ask the local vivo page or seller for the promised Android/OS version, number of major upgrades, security-patch duration, start date and update-delivery history. A longer nominal period can still mean fewer years remaining if the phone launched earlier or was discontinued sooner.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price and value: build a local comparison, not a global ranking
No universal “best V-series phone” can be declared without a country, date and competing prices. Record the live price for each exact SKU, then include delivery, tax, warranty, charger, case, storage and promotional conditions. A sale price that expires tomorrow should be labeled as promotional and dated.
vivo’s comparison tool compares vivo phones; it does not provide the cross-brand prices and independent competitor evidence needed for a best-buy conclusion. Use it to understand differences within the V family, then assemble a separate shortlist of similarly priced phones sold by authorized local retailers.

A repeatable buying procedure
- Write the brief. Set your delivered-price ceiling, preferred storage, primary use and minimum support period.
- Capture the SKU. Save the country page, model code, RAM/storage tier, color and seller warranty. Do not rely on a retailer title that omits the regional variant.
- Fill the hardware sheet. Enter chipset, display measurements, camera roles, OIS/autofocus, battery capacity, charging protocol, dimensions, weight, IP rating and connectivity.
- Verify what is in the box. Record charger wattage, cable, case, screen film and any regional exclusions. Price missing essentials separately.
- Gather independent tests. Require comparable camera samples, sustained gaming results, measured battery endurance, recharge times, brightness readings and thermal observations for the same model.
- Check support language. Save the local update promise and its start-date rule. For the V70, preserve the Europe versus non-Europe footnote rather than quoting only the headline.
- Price two or three alternatives. Use the same storage tier and include tax, shipping, warranty and current promotion. Note the date because retail prices change.
- Score trade-offs explicitly. Give extra weight to your primary use, then record what you give up: camera reach for compact size, screen area for handling, or a lower price for shorter support.
- Confirm return and service terms. Before checkout, verify return-window conditions, dead-pixel policy, repair location and whether the seller is authorized in your country.
Common comparison mistakes and fixes
- Using megapixels as the camera verdict: replace the number with lens roles, focusing, stabilization and independent samples.
- Equating 90 W with a guaranteed recharge time: check charger, protocol, temperature and measured tests; vivo says actual V70 charging power varies with conditions.
- Comparing global pages with local prices: match country, model code, bands, SIM setup, software and in-box contents first.
- Assuming a newer model number is automatically better: compare the priorities and launch prices; the V40, V60 and V70 have different strengths.
- Quoting the V70 update headline without its footnote: state the Europe and non-Europe counting rules and do not apply it to other V-series phones.
- Ignoring sustained performance: use long gaming or productivity tests instead of one short benchmark run.
- Calling an IP rating insurance: read liquid-damage exclusions and local repair terms.
- Choosing the cheapest storage tier: estimate photo, video, app and offline-content growth over the years you plan to keep the phone.
How to make the final decision
Choose the V-series model when its exact local configuration delivers the camera roles, battery behavior, display handling, connectivity and support terms you value at a competitive delivered price. Choose another midrange phone when it offers stronger independently tested results for your main use, better local service or a materially lower total cost. The defensible conclusion is model- and market-specific: document the SKU, test conditions, price date and compromises instead of declaring a universal winner.
