Which phone has the better display?

The vivo T4 5G has the larger listed screen and higher maximum refresh rate: 6.77 inches and up to 120Hz, compared with the Galaxy A17 5G’s 6.7-inch panel and up to 90Hz. A higher refresh rate can make supported motion, such as scrolling, appear smoother, but it does not by itself establish overall display quality or battery impact.

Samsung identifies its panel as Super AMOLED; vivo identifies its panel as AMOLED. vivo also claims a local peak brightness of 5000 nits, qualified as a local-peak laboratory figure. That number should not be treated as a directly comparable everyday brightness result without matching measurement methods and conditions.

Battery capacity and charging: vivo leads on the listed figures

vivo lists a 7300mAh typical battery capacity and 7170mAh rated capacity for the T4 5G, versus 5000mAh for Samsung’s Galaxy A17 5G. vivo also lists up to 90W FlashCharge, while Samsung lists 25W fast charging. Charging power can vary with conditions, as vivo notes.

Those figures make the T4 the specification-led pick if battery capacity or supported wired charging rate is a priority. They do not establish screen-on time, how often either phone needs charging, or a full-charge time. No controlled, matched battery-endurance result is available here, so capacity alone is not proof that the T4 will last a particular number of hours longer.

Camera hardware: compare the lenses you need, not just the megapixels

Both phones list a 50MP main rear camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS). Samsung additionally lists a 5MP ultra-wide and a macro camera; vivo lists a 2MP secondary camera. That gives the Galaxy A17 5G more explicitly named rear-camera roles, including an ultra-wide view.

The T4 5G lists a 32MP front camera, against 13MP on the Galaxy A17 5G. This is a difference in published resolution, not a guarantee that selfies or video calls will look better. Lens count and megapixels cannot settle image quality without comparable photos and testing.

Software support is Samsung’s clearest long-term advantage

Samsung states that the Galaxy A17 5G will receive six Android-generation upgrades and six years of security updates. Samsung’s product page gives 31 August 2031 as the end date for its security-update period. For someone planning to keep a phone for years, this is a concrete published commitment to weigh in the decision.

vivo lists Android 15 and Funtouch OS 15 for the T4 5G, but the reviewed official specification page does not state a comparable support-duration commitment. That absence is not evidence of a particular shorter support period; it means a matching duration is not established by that specification page.

Durability and expandable storage

The T4 5G carries an IP65 rating; the Galaxy A17 5G carries an IP54 rating and has Gorilla Glass Victus on the front, according to Samsung. These are different protection claims, not a basis for calling either phone waterproof. vivo says its splash and water resistance is tested under controlled conditions and can diminish with wear.

Samsung lists microSD expansion up to 2TB, which may be useful if you want removable storage. vivo’s specification page does not list expandable ROM. Confirm the exact regional model and slot arrangement with the seller before buying, especially if microSD support is essential.

Price difference: compare the same RAM and storage

The available figures are from different dates and listing contexts, so they are not a like-for-like live-price comparison. Samsung India’s 3 September 2025 launch announcement listed prices for the Galaxy A17 5G. The vivo figure is a store-page observation accessed in 2026, and a third-party comparison page showed a separate price snapshot at access in 2026.

The Samsung prices are launch prices, while the vivo store price and third-party figures are snapshots. To judge the actual difference, compare 8GB + 128GB with 8GB + 128GB, or 8GB + 256GB with 8GB + 256GB, at the same time. Check stock and distinguish the displayed price from any bank discount, cashback or effective offer.

Which should you buy?

Choose the vivo T4 5G if

• You prioritize the larger listed battery capacity or higher supported wired charging rate.
• You prefer a listed 120Hz display or want the higher-resolution front-camera specification.
