Short answer: the Vivo iQOO 9 Pro is still a compelling discounted enthusiast phone, not a sensible full-price flagship in 2026. Its 2K 120Hz AMOLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 performance, 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and gimbal-stabilized main camera remain genuinely strong. Ageing software, battery wear, uncertain imported-model support and weaker secondary cameras make a newer phone the safer choice for most buyers.
Buy a clean, tested unit when the price is substantially below newer performance phones. Consider a China import only if you can verify the exact model, bands, ROM and Google-service behavior. Avoid expensive new-old-stock units, unknown battery condition and listings that cannot prove warranty or carrier compatibility.

What the iQOO 9 Pro is
iQOO is vivo’s performance-focused smartphone brand. The iQOO 9 Pro launched in China in January 2022 and reached India in February 2022. It is distinct from the standard iQOO 9, the later iQOO 9T and the newer iQOO Neo9 Pro. Product names, finishes and memory options vary by market; “Legend” and “Dark Cruise” are among the documented finishes, while “Burning Engine” or “Track” names may reflect translation or regional naming.
China and India versions are not one uniform global configuration. China models use OriginOS Ocean, while Indian models shipped with Funtouch OS 12. Storage, software behavior, radio bands, charger packaging and warranty can differ.

Display, design and durability
The curved 6.78-inch panel is the phone’s clearest long-term strength. Its 3200 × 1440 resolution gives text, photos and games a noticeably sharper presentation than ordinary Full HD panels, while 120Hz makes scrolling and supported games feel fluid. LTPO technology allows more flexible refresh-rate management than a fixed-refresh display, although exact behavior depends on the installed firmware.
The handset has a premium, performance-phone design, with BMW M-inspired Legend styling on relevant versions, strong haptics and a responsive in-display fingerprint reader. It is large and relatively heavy, and curved glass raises replacement cost and the chance of accidental touches. The reviewed specifications do not establish an IP water-resistance rating, so do not buy it expecting certified protection.

Performance and gaming
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 remains fast for everyday Android use, demanding games and multitasking. It uses one approximately 3.0GHz Cortex-X2 core, three performance cores around 2.5GHz and four efficiency cores around 1.8GHz, with Adreno 730 graphics on a 4nm process. Short bursts still feel flagship-class.
Long sessions are a different question. Early Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones can become warm and reduce sustained performance under extended gaming, emulation, camera recording or charging. Reviews praised responsiveness but noted heat, efficiency and software trade-offs; do not assume a 2026 handset will match launch-day behavior. Run a demanding game or record video for several minutes before buying a used unit and check for abnormal heat or stutter.
Cameras: excellent main sensor, specialist secondaries
50MP gimbal main camera
The Samsung GN5-based 50MP main camera uses a gimbal stabilization system. It is the camera that makes the Pro model interesting: stabilization helps handheld video and moving subjects, and the relatively large main sensor gives it useful low-light potential. Contemporary reviews highlighted stabilization and video quality. That praise applies primarily to the main camera, not the entire rear array. See iQOO’s product material and Notebookcheck’s review.
50MP ultra-wide/fisheye
The ultra-wide is unusual rather than universally superior. China documentation describes an approximately 150-degree fisheye field of view; software correction can narrow the usable view to about 120 degrees. Fisheye mode can produce striking social-media compositions, while corrected images may be cropped and less consistent than the primary camera. Do not equate the 50MP label with flagship-level ultra-wide quality.

- The Galaxy A53 5G features a 6.5″ Super AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and up to 800 nits of peak brightness, delivering ultra-smooth motion when scrolling or gaming and clear visibility even in bright outdoor conditions.
16MP portrait lens
The third camera is a roughly 60mm-equivalent portrait lens. It is useful for portraits and modest optical magnification, but it is not a modern 3x or 5x periscope telephoto. Later camera-focused flagships are more versatile at distance.
On a used device, inspect every lens for scratches, focus hunting, delayed shutter behavior and stabilization noise. Night and moving-subject results also vary with firmware.
Battery and charging
The dual-cell battery is specified as 4,700mAh typical-equivalent. Its headline features are 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging; the China specification also lists reverse wired charging through OTG. A bundled original charger and suitable cable are important because generic “120W” accessories are not guaranteed to use iQOO’s charging protocol.
Charging time varies with battery level, temperature, charger, cable, regional configuration and software controls, so no single minute figure applies to every unit. High refresh rates and sustained Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 workloads can reduce endurance. In 2026, the physical battery’s condition matters more than its launch capacity: ask for battery evidence, test rapid percentage drops and verify that both wired and wireless charging work.

China model
Chinese units use OriginOS Ocean. Depending on ROM and seller modifications, Google services, notifications, Android Auto, banking apps, language coverage and carrier features may require extra setup or may not work reliably. A listing calling itself “global ROM” is not proof of an official international model.
India model
Indian units shipped with Funtouch OS 12. Indian Express reported a launch-era promise of two years of system updates and an upgrade to Android 14. That statement does not verify the current security-patch date or final software state of every device in 2026. Check the physical phone rather than relying on a seller’s description.
Before payment, open Settings → About phone and record the Android version, OriginOS or Funtouch OS version, security-update date, model number and IMEI. Also check Google Play certification and Widevine status if banking or streaming matters.

Imports, US use and warranty
“Unlocked” does not establish compatibility with a US or other foreign carrier. Compare the exact model number and LTE/5G bands with your intended network, then confirm VoLTE, 5G registration and SIM behavior using the actual phone. Imported units can also have no domestic warranty, a nonstandard plug, untranslated menus, seller-installed software and difficult parts sourcing. Published regional comparisons at Notebookcheck and GSM Arena reinforce the need for model-level verification.
How to inspect a used iQOO 9 Pro
- Confirm the exact market, model number, IMEI and blacklist status.
- Check Android security-patch date, Google Play certification and whether the bootloader or ROM was modified.
- Test all three rear cameras, front camera, focus, video stabilization and camera glass.
- Use the original adapter and cable to test 120W charging; test wireless charging separately.
- Run a demanding game or camera recording session and watch for excessive heat, throttling or abrupt battery loss.
- Inspect the display at low brightness for burn-in, green tint, cracks and touch dead zones.
- Test fingerprint enrollment, speakers, microphones, vibration, USB-C, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS.
- Insert the intended carrier SIM and verify calls, data, VoLTE and 5G where applicable.
- Get the return policy and any warranty promise in writing.
Walk away from unexplained “global ROM” claims, missing original chargers, refused IMEI checks, camera crashes, extreme heat, jumping battery percentages or unusually low prices.
Is it worth buying in 2026?
Buy when
- The price is well below newer performance phones.
- You value a sharp curved display, very fast charging and gaming speed more than long support.
- Battery health, charger, model and carrier compatibility are documented.
- You accept that the main camera is much stronger than the secondary cameras.
Buy only at the right price when
- You are importing the China model and understand OriginOS and Google-service limitations.
- You can tolerate uncertain warranty and parts availability.
- You are comparing it with a newer iQOO, OnePlus or Xiaomi phone and the older device is substantially cheaper.
Avoid when
- Long Android and security support is a priority.
- You need dependable US carrier certification or local warranty.
- You want a modern long-range zoom camera or certified water resistance.
- The seller cannot prove battery condition, ROM, IMEI or return rights.
Do not use one universal 2026 price. Value the phone against a newer model with a current chip and longer support, then deduct for battery replacement risk, a missing charger, import complications and warranty uncertainty.
Better alternatives for different buyers
iQOO Neo9 Pro
The newer iQOO Neo9 Pro is the logical performance alternative when available at a similar price. Its newer platform and product generation make it a safer buy, although it does not reproduce the 9 Pro’s 2K curved display, 50W wireless charging or exact camera arrangement. Specifications are listed at iQOO India.
