The Visualping API lets teams manage website monitors programmatically, retrieve changes, and route resulting alerts into their own applications and workflows. It is useful when a person or system needs to act on a change detected during a scheduled check—not as a guarantee of real-time change detection.

What can the Visualping API do?

Visualping describes its API as a way to integrate its website-monitoring capabilities into applications and workflows. The API reference documents account and monitor-job operations, including describing a user, listing jobs, creating jobs, reusing saved settings, and bulk-creating monitors. It also covers updating and deleting monitors and retrieving changes.

A monitor can be configured with a URL, description, monitoring mode, check interval, element selector, page actions, schedule, alert settings, and notification configuration. The precise fields and accepted values depend on the endpoint; consult the current API reference before building an integration.

What can I use it for?

The useful pattern is to monitor a specific page or page region, decide what change matters, and send the resulting alert to the people or system that can respond. Visualping checks pages on a schedule, so an alert follows a check and may arrive after the source page has already changed.

Competitor pricing and offers

Monitor a competitor’s pricing or feature page and review changes such as a price decrease or a newly listed feature. A team can route notices into a shared review workflow rather than relying on someone to revisit each page manually.

Retail availability

Track a product listing for price or availability changes. Visualping’s basic guide cites listings on eBay, Amazon, and Kijiji as examples. A webhook can send a change payload onward; extracting structured values such as price or stock status requires Solutions-plan configuration.

Regulatory and compliance updates

Monitor government or regulatory pages, then route detected changes to an internal review process. Visualping also describes global environmental regulations as an example for curated data starter packs. Monitoring helps surface page changes; it does not determine whether a change creates a legal obligation.

Research, news, and press releases

Watch journals, publications, newsfeeds, or press-release pages for new or changed material. For a team, the value is in getting the alert to the right reviewers without requiring each person to check every source.

Job postings and real estate

Follow job listings and application dates, or property pages for price changes. Choose the page region that carries the relevant information where possible, so unrelated changes are less likely to distract from the signal you care about.

Software dependency and service updates

Monitor vendor documentation, changelogs, and status pages for releases, deprecations, or service changes, then route notices to engineering. Visualping’s company blog describes this as an API-driven scenario.

Reporting across monitors

For organizations with many jobs, the API reference supports listing monitors and querying job activity. That provides a basis for cross-monitor reporting, but use the published reference for the exact endpoints and response fields rather than assuming an undocumented reporting interface.

How to design a useful monitoring workflow

  1. Choose the exact URL. Use the page that contains the information to monitor, rather than a broad homepage when a detail page is available.
  2. Choose the signal. Monitor the whole page or specify a relevant element selector. Decide whether the team needs a visual or text change, or a configured extracted value.
  3. Define the meaningful change. Be explicit about the condition that warrants attention—for example, a price decrease, an availability change, or a new release note. Avoid treating every page difference as an actionable event.
  4. Set page actions or waiting behavior when needed. A page that loads content dynamically may need a wait time or page action before capture. Configure these for the page rather than assuming its initial load contains all relevant content.
  5. Set the check interval and schedule. Choose a frequency appropriate to how quickly the team needs to know and how often the source is likely to change. Checks are scheduled; the API does not make detection instantaneous.
  6. Choose where changes go. Review changes in Visualping, retrieve them through the API, or configure a notification destination such as a webhook or supported workflow integration.
  7. Test the alert path. Confirm that the detected change contains enough context for a reviewer to decide what to do, and that the configured destination receives it.

Authentication and access scope

The API reference specifies Bearer-token authentication in the Authorization header and recommends API keys. Keep keys out of URL query strings and path segments. Store them as secrets, restrict access to the integration that needs them, and revoke a key if it is exposed.

Visualping’s API key guidance distinguishes organization scope, for integrations that need multiple workspaces, from workspace scope, which limits access to one workspace. Read access is suitable for retrieving information; creating or modifying monitors requires write access. The guide recommends starting with read access and workspace scope when those permissions are sufficient.

Business-account Developer settings are limited to admins. Keys are shown only once, can be revoked, and are limited to five per organization. Save a key securely when it is created; if it is lost, use the documented key-management process rather than expecting to retrieve the original secret.

Alerts, webhooks, and extracting data

Visualping documents webhook notifications as JSON payloads with monitor context and links to comparison material. Depending on configuration, payloads may include summaries and extracted data. The webhook guide names Zapier, n8n, and Microsoft Power Automate as common destinations.

There is an important distinction between receiving a change alert and receiving a normalized business value. A page-change notification can tell a reviewer that content changed; custom structured extraction such as a price or stock status is described as a Solutions-plan feature. If downstream automation depends on a field like price or in_stock, verify that extraction is configured and that the payload shape meets your needs before wiring it into an automated decision.

The plan comparison says Business plans can integrate changes through the API, webhook, Google Sheets, Slack, or Microsoft Teams. It positions Solutions for higher-complexity managed deployments, including custom output, larger-scale use, onboarding, and support. Confirm current plan availability and terms with Visualping before choosing a plan.

Choosing between monitoring modes and delivery methods

Decision Use it when Trade-off to consider
Whole page or element selector The whole page matters, or a specific region contains the signal. Monitoring a narrower region can focus review on relevant changes; selectors depend on the page structure.
Visual, text, code, or extracted-data signal You need to detect appearance changes, textual edits, code changes, or a configured value. Structured extraction is not the same as a generic alert and may require Solutions-plan setup.
API retrieval Your application needs to list monitors or retrieve change information programmatically. Your integration must handle authentication, response data, and throttling.
Webhook or named destination A change should be pushed into a workflow or collaboration tool. Validate the incoming payload and decide how the destination handles retries or duplicate processing.
Standard setup or managed deployment A team can configure and maintain its own jobs, or needs custom output and managed scale. Visualping positions Solutions for more complex deployments; compare current plan details against actual requirements.

Rate limits and reliability

The API reference documents HTTP 429 throttling and recommends pausing and retrying with exponential backoff. It specifies a limit of 200 requests per rolling one-minute window for the get-diff endpoint. The reference does not publish a fixed limit for other endpoints, while noting that sustained abusive volume may be restricted. Since limits can change, check the live API reference before relying on these figures in production.

  • On HTTP 429, wait and retry with exponential backoff instead of immediately repeating the request.
  • For scheduled monitoring, distinguish the time a source page changes from the next time Visualping checks it and sends an alert.
  • For workflows that take consequential action, route alerts through an appropriate review or validation step rather than treating any detected difference as verified business meaning.

Common implementation problems

Authentication is rejected

Check that the request uses a valid API key as a Bearer token in the Authorization header, that the key has not been revoked, and that its scope and permissions cover the requested operation. Do not move the token into a URL to work around an authentication error.

A request is throttled

An HTTP 429 response indicates throttling. Pause and retry with exponential backoff. If the integration calls get-diff repeatedly, account for the documented 200-request rolling one-minute limit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A monitor misses content that appears later

The page may render relevant content after its initial load. Configure an appropriate wait time or page action, then verify the monitored region and resulting change in the actual workflow.

Alerts arrive later than expected

Check the monitor’s interval and schedule. Visualping detects changes during checks; it does not promise an alert at the moment a source website changes.

A webhook has no usable price or availability value

A standard change payload is not necessarily structured extraction. Confirm that custom extraction is configured; Visualping describes custom values such as price and stock status as a Solutions-plan feature.

What Visualping reports about usage

In a company blog updated March 30, 2026, Visualping reported sample active-account figures: over 73,000 users monitoring price changes, 15,600+ monitoring competitors, 11,200+ tracking regulatory and compliance changes, and 6,200+ monitoring software releases. The same blog reported over 19 million monitoring checks and 1.9 million change notifications in a 30-day window. These are Visualping-reported figures from a sample of active accounts, not market-wide or independently verified statistics.

If you need screenshots rather than change monitoring

Visualping’s API is for managing website monitors and retrieving detected changes. If the task is to capture a page as an image or PDF rather than track it over time, ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server. It does not replace scheduled change monitoring.

Or skip the browser setup

A single GET request can return a screenshot. This cURL example saves a WebP file; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses indicate the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
