Visa Survey: 46% of APAC Consumers Say They May Use Stablecoins by 2031

Nearly half of consumers surveyed across 14 Asia Pacific markets said they were likely to use stablecoins within five years, but that is stated intention—not a forecast of adoption. Visa’s 2026 Consumer 360 study found that 46% expressed this likelihood, while 16% said they had used stablecoins in the previous 12 months.

What did the Visa stablecoin survey find?

Visa commissioned its 2026 Consumer 360 study, which surveyed 14,250 people aged 18–65 across 14 Asia Pacific markets. Fieldwork ran from June through July 2026. The five-year horizon therefore points roughly toward mid-2031; it is not a precise deadline for individual respondents.

The figures are Visa-reported survey responses. The release does not specify questionnaire wording, recruitment or sampling frame, response rate, weighting, country-level sample sizes, or confidence intervals. Those omissions limit what can be concluded about representativeness and the precision of comparisons. The results should be read as reported attitudes, not independently verified behavior or a population-wide adoption forecast. Visa’s October 5, 2026 release identifies the study and its headline findings.

How many consumers say they might use stablecoins?

Visa says 46% of respondents were likely to use stablecoins within the next five years. In a different measure, 16% said they had used stablecoins in the prior 12 months. The first figure records stated future likelihood; the second records respondents’ reported recent use. Neither establishes how many people will actually use stablecoins by 2031.

Are consumers familiar with stablecoins?

Awareness was much more common than what Visa described as accurate understanding: 66% of surveyed consumers were aware of stablecoins, while 6% demonstrated accurate understanding. Among those aware, 49% believed stablecoins could only be used to buy and sell other cryptocurrencies, and 41% believed they always increase in value. These are findings attributed to Visa’s survey, not independently validated measures of knowledge.

What is stopping people from using stablecoins?

Among respondents who were aware of stablecoins but had never used them, 38% cited fraud or scam concerns and 36% cited lack of understanding. These answers show that interest does not remove practical questions about safety or how stablecoins work; they do not measure the actual risk of a particular product or provider.

When asked about provider trust, 27% preferred government- or central bank-linked entities, while 26% preferred banks or regulated financial institutions. These are stated preferences, not a verification that any provider or stablecoin is safe.

Which Asia Pacific markets showed the strongest interest?

Visa highlighted awareness of 84% in Hong Kong, 80% in India, and 77% in Thailand. For stated likelihood of use within five years, it reported 67% in both Vietnam and India. These are selected market figures from the release, not a complete ranking of all 14 markets. The release does not provide the country-level sample sizes or statistical details needed to judge how precisely the figures distinguish one market from another.

What uses do consumers associate with stablecoins?

Visa says consumer interest touched online purchases, travel spending, overseas shopping, and cross-border money movement. Separately, 49% of respondents believed stablecoins could become a common way to move money across borders within five years. That is a belief about future prevalence, not a measured change in transaction volume.

Visa presents these use cases alongside its own work with banks, regulated financial institutions, and payment partners. The company says its Visa Stablecoin Platform helps clients mint, move, and manage stablecoins, and that it is working to connect stablecoin capabilities with familiar payment and money-movement experiences. This describes Visa’s institutional activity; it is not evidence that a particular consumer service is available or a recommendation to use one. Visa’s statements about the opportunity and its role are company claims, rather than independent survey findings.
