Violet is a ranged, Spirit-focused carry and control hero who rewards accurate guided shots, deliberate movement control, and safe channeling. For a beginner, the reliable plan is to fight from cover, open with Living Ink, use Flow State to decide where the next movement happens, complete Still Life only when you can hold line of sight safely, and reserve Abstract Landscape for an objective or committed team fight. Her release-era numbers and item priorities are provisional because she arrived on October 16, 2026.
What Violet does and why her kit matters
Violet is the fifth hero added to Deadlock: City Never Sleeps. Her design combines five jobs that are usually split among different characters: guided projectile damage, temporary terrain, a sustained single-target sketch, permanent match-long bonuses, and large-area vision denial. That combination makes her useful in both a lane and a coordinated fight, but it also punishes impatient positioning. You get the most from her when you create a safe angle first, then layer abilities around the enemy’s forced movement.

Valve’s cited release data rates Violet at complexity 1 out of 4, the easiest grade in that data. That rating describes her basic accessibility, not a promise that every part of her kit is simple. Steering bullets, maintaining line of sight for Still Life, and deciding whether to keep or end a Flow State trail all require judgment.
| Release-era value | Figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Base health | 710 | Game-file summary reported October 17, 2026; patch-sensitive |
| Weapon damage | 30 per shot | Game-file summary reported October 17, 2026; patch-sensitive |
| Magazine | 15 rounds | Game-file summary reported October 17, 2026; patch-sensitive |
| Move speed | 6.9 m/s | Game-file summary reported October 17, 2026; patch-sensitive |
| Health regeneration | 2 per second | Game-file summary reported October 17, 2026; patch-sensitive |
Those numbers explain the beginner rule: start at range and use cover. Violet’s health pool is not a license to stand in front of a brawler, and her heavy weapon makes missed shots especially expensive. Her value comes from controlling the angle and making each accurate hit improve the next exchange.

Violet’s abilities, explained for first-time players
Living Ink
Living Ink empowers Violet’s next three bullets. While each empowered round is in flight, you can steer it. A hit deals 120% of your bullet damage plus 35 Spirit damage in a 2.5-meter splash radius. Hitting a hero also cuts Violet’s ability cooldowns by 1.5 seconds and item cooldowns by half that amount.
The same activation has a second form. Aim down sights while the empowerment is active and Violet paints a solid ink stroke up to 25 meters long. The stroke blocks heroes and projectiles for 20 seconds. A heavy melee can break it, damaging the attacker.
How a beginner should use Living Ink
- Open a trade with the three guided shots rather than firing ordinary rounds first. Aim at predictable movement, and curve a shot around the edge of cover when the target has limited escape options.
- Prioritize hero hits over minions when a fight is starting. The cooldown reduction is part of the damage pattern: accurate shots bring Flow State, Still Life, and item tools back sooner.
- Use the ink stroke across a narrow corridor, an escape route, or an approach that the enemy must take. Check your team’s position before painting it; a wall that saves you can also trap an ally or cut off your own push.
- Expect a heavy melee to remove the stroke. Do not treat the wall as permanent cover against a determined close-range attacker.
A common beginner error is spending all three guided rounds on a target that can freely retreat. The better target is a hero whose movement is constrained by a corner, Flow State trail, objective geometry, or a teammate’s crowd control.
Flow State
Flow State sends a brush forward and leaves a trail. Allies who use the trail gain increased slide distance. Enemies who cross it are slowed and damaged. Violet can reactivate the ability to end the trail early and create a wider damage burst. The reported base cooldown is 23 seconds.
Three useful Flow State placements
- Advance: Lay the trail along the route your team intends to take. Teammates can slide farther through the route, while an enemy trying to contest it is slowed and takes damage.
- Peel: Put the trail across the route an engager must use to reach you or an ally. The slow buys time for your guided shots and for a teammate to turn.
- Escape: Cast it behind you while retreating. The trail makes pursuit slower and gives allies a longer slide route out of danger.
Reactivate when enemies are grouped and the immediate burst is worth more than keeping the trail active. If your team still needs the movement lane, leave it running. The decision is not “always burst” or “always keep the trail”; it is whether the next few seconds favor damage now or a controlled route.
Still Life
Still Life selects an enemy hero and deals 30 Spirit damage per second while Violet keeps looking at that target. The sketch fills over time, and it fills faster when your bullets or abilities hit the subject. When the sketch completes, the target takes an additional 60 Spirit damage and is stunned for one second. A sketch collectible then drops.

Picking up the collectible grants a permanent bonus for the rest of the match based on the subject’s class:
| Target class | Permanent bonus from the collectible |
|---|---|
| Brawler | Maximum health |
| Mystic | Spirit Power |
| Marksman | Weapon damage |
| Assassin | Movement speed |
The link breaks if the target moves beyond the documented range or if line of sight is lost. Start Still Life on an isolated or occupied target you can keep in view. Shoot that target during the channel to finish the sketch faster, then collect the drop only when the area is safe. A completed sketch is valuable, but walking into an enemy formation to collect it can erase the advantage you just earned.
Do not channel in the middle of a formation without protection. If a diver can force you to turn away, the link ends and you have donated time. Ask a teammate to hold the angle, use cover that preserves sight, or wait until an enemy is already committed to another fight.
Abstract Landscape
Abstract Landscape paints an approximately 18-meter-radius circle for six seconds and blocks vision. Allies inside gain 25 Spirit Power, while enemies inside are revealed. An enemy that leaves the area takes 100 Spirit damage, is silenced for two seconds, and is slowed by 30 percent. The documented ultimate cooldown is 165 seconds before upgrades.
This is an area-control ultimate, not a routine poke button. Use it where both teams must make a decision: an objective, a grouped push, a constrained approach, or a retreat route that the enemy cannot abandon without paying a cost. Your team gets a reason to fight inside the circle, and opponents get a reason to stay out or accept the exit penalty.

A step-by-step beginner gameplan
- Choose a safe starting angle. Use a wall, corner, or elevation that lets you see the lane without exposing your full body. Violet’s 710 release-era health and slow heavy weapon make reckless frontline trades inefficient.
- Watch the enemy’s movement before committing. Identify the route a target must take to reach cover, the route a diver must use to reach your back line, or the space around the next objective.
- Open with Living Ink. Steer the three empowered shots into heroes whenever possible. Hit quality matters twice: it deals damage and reduces ability and item cooldowns.
- Make Flow State answer the next movement. Put it on your team’s intended slide route, across an enemy engage path, or behind you during a retreat. Reactivate for the wider burst only when grouped enemies make the immediate damage better than the route.
- Start Still Life when you can maintain vision. Pick a target that is isolated, pinned to an objective, or already occupied by your teammates. Continue firing at that subject to accelerate completion.
- Secure the collectible safely. The class-based bonus lasts for the entire match, but the pickup is not worth dying for. Clear the nearby angle or let a teammate cover you first.
- Spend Abstract Landscape on a meaningful fight. Cast it where allies can stand inside and enemies have a reason to cross or leave. Do not use it as casual lane poke.
- Reposition after the sequence. Violet is strongest when the enemy has to solve a new route. Move to the next cover angle instead of remaining where the first volley was expected.
Recommended ability order
A practical release-era order puts Living Ink first because it supplies immediate damage, cooldown cycling, and a defensive wall. Unlock Flow State and Still Life next so you can control routes and begin permanent scaling. Unlock Abstract Landscape early enough to use its team-fight utility, then continue investing in Living Ink before filling out the remaining upgrades.
| Priority | What to take | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Unlock and upgrade Living Ink | Three guided shots, cooldown reduction, and the ink stroke support every phase of a fight. |
| 2 | Unlock Flow State | It gives your team a movement route and provides slow, damage, or burst control. |
| 3 | Unlock Still Life | It adds a stun, sustained Spirit damage, and a permanent class-based collectible bonus. |
| 4 | Unlock Abstract Landscape | Take it early enough to contest objectives and coordinated pushes rather than delaying all team-fight utility. |
| 5 | Continue Living Ink investment | Reliable guided-shot hits keep the rest of the kit available more often. |
| 6 | Fill remaining upgrades according to the match | Favor defense when dives interrupt Still Life; favor Spirit and cooldown value when you can hold safe angles. |
This is a priority, not a rigid level-by-level script. If an enemy assassin repeatedly breaks your channels, an earlier defensive purchase or upgrade can produce more real value than greedily following an offensive sequence.
Beginner build priorities and item examples
Release guides favor Spirit Power, additional charges, cooldown reduction, and enough survivability to keep channeling. The examples below are virtual Deadlock shop items, and their relative value can change with balance patches.
| Build need | Early examples | Later examples | When to emphasize it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spirit damage and scaling | Extra Spirit | Improved Spirit, Boundless Spirit | When you can maintain sight and want stronger Living Ink, Still Life, and ultimate damage. |
| More ability access | Extra Charge | Rapid Recharge, Superior Cooldown | When accurate hero hits and repeated rotations are deciding fights. |
| Sustain | Mystic Regeneration, Extra Regen | Spirit Lifesteal | When chip damage is forcing you away from useful angles. |
| Survivability | Grit | Reactive Barrier | When dives, burst, or crowd control stop you from completing Still Life. |
| Weapon consistency | High-Velocity Rounds | Not specified in the release examples | When landing ordinary and empowered shots is more important than adding another Spirit multiplier. |
Think in trade-offs rather than a fixed shopping list. Spirit Power and cooldown cycling improve your control loop; survivability protects the time needed to channel; weapon consistency helps you finish sketches and convert guided shots. If you are dying before a second rotation, a defensive choice is an offensive choice because it preserves your cooldown investment.
How to choose between Violet’s competing options
Accuracy versus raw weapon uptime
Living Ink rewards deliberate shots with extra damage and cooldown reduction, so an accurate player can gain more from Spirit and recharge effects than from simply increasing the number of ordinary rounds fired. If your aim is inconsistent or enemies constantly break line of sight, weapon-consistency tools can be the more practical bridge until you can convert the guided shots reliably.
Spirit damage versus survivability
Spirit-focused items improve Living Ink’s splash component, Still Life, and Abstract Landscape. They do not help if a dive forces you to cancel the channel or abandon the angle. Choose survivability when the enemy’s plan is specifically to reach you; choose Spirit and cooldown cycling when you are already surviving long enough to complete your rotations.

Permanent scaling versus immediate pressure
Still Life collectibles become more valuable as the match continues, but the channel and pickup create a short-term risk. A safe completed sketch can supply maximum health, Spirit Power, weapon damage, or movement speed for the remainder of the match. An unsafe attempt gives the opponent a predictable target. Take the permanent bonus when the target is isolated or your team controls the surrounding space; otherwise, keep applying immediate lane pressure and wait for a safer window.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFlow State route versus reactivation burst
The trail is a movement and zoning tool while it remains active. Reactivation is a damage decision. Keep the trail when your team is crossing, retreating, or holding a choke. End it for the wider burst when several enemies are already inside the affected space and the fight will be decided before the movement benefit matters.
Ultimate now versus ultimate later
Abstract Landscape has a documented 165-second pre-upgrade cooldown, so timing matters. Cast it now when the circle changes who can occupy an objective or when a grouped push is committed. Save it when the only target is nearly dead, the fight is already won, or your team has no way to stand inside the area and exploit the 25 Spirit Power.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Using Abstract Landscape without wasting the cooldown
Before casting, ask three questions:
- Can my allies reach and remain inside the approximately 18-meter circle?
- Does the enemy have to cross, contest, or retreat through the area?
- Do we have a follow-up angle, such as Living Ink, Flow State, or an ink wall, that turns blocked vision and revealed enemies into a concrete advantage?
If the answer is yes to most of them, place the circle so its edge covers the route rather than dropping it behind the action. Enemies that leave take the 100 Spirit damage, two-second silence, and 30-percent slow, so the boundary itself is a threat. Allies should know whether the plan is to hold inside, push through, or use the circle to deny a retreat. Unannounced casts often waste the vision block because teammates stand outside and enemies simply disengage.
Common mistakes and fixes
Standing in the front line
Symptom: You lose health before Living Ink connects and cannot begin Still Life safely.
Fix: Start behind cover, expose only long enough to steer a shot, and move after the first rotation.

Symptom: The wall blocks your own escape or separates a teammate from the fight.
Fix: Paint across the enemy route, not automatically across the whole corridor. Leave a usable path for your team unless the wall is specifically a retreat barrier.

Symptom: The burst lands, but your team loses the slide route needed to enter or leave.
Fix: Keep the trail for movement when the next decision is positional; burst only when enemies are grouped and damage is urgent.
Channeling Still Life in a crowd
Symptom: The target turns a corner, a diver forces you to look away, and the sketch resets or fails to complete.
Fix: Wait for isolation, use cover that preserves line of sight, and ask a teammate to protect the channel.
Collecting a sketch in an unsafe area
Symptom: You complete the permanent bonus but die before securing it or immediately afterward.
Fix: Treat the collectible as an objective. Clear the angle, use Flow State to control the route, or delay the pickup until your team arrives.

What the early release data can and cannot tell you
One reported sample recorded a 45.6 percent win rate across 5,180 games during Violet’s first two hours after release. That is an early sample, not a settled balance judgment. New-player experimentation, unfamiliar matchups, incomplete builds, and rapid strategy changes can all move such a number. Use it as release context rather than proof that Violet is weak or strong after the metagame stabilizes.
Her health, damage, movement, regeneration, cooldowns, radii, and item priorities are likewise release-era references. A patch can change any of them. Before copying a build, check the current in-game ability text and item tooltips, especially for Living Ink’s damage and cooldown reduction, Flow State’s cooldown, and Abstract Landscape’s 165-second base cooldown.
Violet quick-reference checklist
- Fight from cover and preserve a safe line of sight.
- Begin trades with the three guided Living Ink shots.
- Use the cooldown reduction from hero hits to cycle the rest of the kit.
- Place Flow State where the next movement decision will happen.
- Reactivate Flow State for burst only when grouped enemies justify losing the trail.
- Start Still Life on a target you can keep looking at.
- Finish sketches with bullets and abilities, then collect the drop safely.
- Choose the collectible bonus according to the target’s class: health, Spirit Power, weapon damage, or movement speed.
- Use Abstract Landscape for objectives and committed fights, not casual poke.
- Buy Spirit Power, charges, cooldown reduction, or defense according to what is preventing your next successful rotation.
Played this way, Violet is not a frontline duelist who wins by forcing every exchange. She is a ranged controller-carry who makes the enemy move through bad spaces, turns accurate shots into faster access to her kit, and grows stronger when she can complete sketches without sacrificing her position.
