Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres appeared to stifle a laugh as Sweden manager Graham Potter joked about Manchester City’s Premier League charges during an update on illness-related withdrawals from the national-team camp. GOAL reported the exchange; Gyökeres’s reaction was a visible moment, not a comment on the case.
What Graham Potter said about Manchester City’s charges
Potter was discussing players withdrawing from Sweden’s camp after an illness or bug affected the squad. GOAL quoted him saying: “We’ve been hit with an infection or a bug,” before adding: “Not ideal, but it happens. So we’ve called in some players who have been fantastic.”

What Manchester City was found guilty of
The joke referred to the Premier League disciplinary case against Manchester City. The Associated Press reported that the independent commission’s verdict was released by the league on 29 September 2026. It found City guilty of all charges relating to serious financial breaches over a nine-season period, as well as the majority of charges concerning failure to cooperate.
According to AP’s account, the commission found that City used “sham” contracts intended to artificially inflate revenue and reduce costs by more than £900 million. The commission also said City “clearly intended to circumvent” the rules. AP reported that City disputed the findings and said it would appeal. The verdict is not the same as a sanctions outcome: AP described sanctions as a separate step.
