That is a comparison with Q3 2025—not growth from the previous quarter. For January through September, the reported year-on-year growth rate was 9.01%.
What does 9.95% growth mean?
The 9.95% figure compares Vietnam’s estimated real economic output in Q3 2026 with output in Q3 2025. It does not mean the economy expanded 9.95% between Q2 and Q3. The National Statistics Office director, Nguyen Thi Huong, presented the estimate at an October 3 press conference, according to VietnamPlus. Vietnam Government News also reported the Q3 estimate.

How did growth compare across 2026?

Which sectors contributed most to growth?
Vietnam Government News reported the following January–September sector growth rates and shares of total value-added growth. A growth rate shows how much a sector expanded; the contribution figure shows its share of the overall increase in value added.
| Sector | Growth, year on year | Contribution to total value-added growth |
|---|---|---|
| Agriculture, forestry and fisheries | 4.02% | 5.35% |
| Industry and construction | 11.21% | 49.62% |
| Services | 8.96% (Vietnam Government News); 8.69% (VietnamPlus) | 45.03% |
The two outlets agree on the agriculture and industry growth rates and on all three contribution shares, but report different services growth rates. The discrepancy is not resolved in their accounts, so the services rate should be treated as disputed. In the Government News breakdown, industry and construction made the largest contribution to nine-month value-added growth.

It also reported goods trade turnover of US$888.02 billion, up 30.4%, with imports exceeding exports and a goods trade deficit of US$19.42 billion. These are additional indicators of economic activity; the report does not establish them as causes of the GDP growth rate.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said on October 3, while chairing a Cabinet meeting with localities, “To achieve this year’s double-digit growth goal, GDP growth in the fourth quarter must exceed 12.5 percent.” Vietnam Government News reported the statement. This is the Q4 pace the government says is required to reach its full-year goal, not a forecast that growth will reach that level.
